Masterclass | Marc Chagall: His Art and His Market
On 1 December, Christie’s Hong Kong will present a dedicated auction offering a superb selection of 20 works by modernist master Marc Chagall. Originating from the artist’s estate, the works have never been offered for sale before.
In celebration of this important auction, Christie’s Education is excited to present a masterclass led by senior specialist Bo Tan, Marc Chagall: His Art and His Market. We will learn about the unique style of this prolific artist, as well as his influence in art history. We will also take a close look at the lots offered in the auction, getting to know the market of this important 20th century artist.

Art Market and the Auction Business
The art market bounced back from the pandemic strongly in 2021, with aggregate sales of art and antiques by dealers and auction houses reaching an estimated $65.1 billion. Representing a 29% increase on the previous year, this demand-driven art market saw almost all categories of art collectibles from masterpieces to NFT’s outperform expectations. A huge surge of millennial collectors also drove the market to new heights, creating both opportunities and challenges to collectors and art businesses alike.
Join art market professionals during Christie’s Autumn Auction week for a half-day programme to understand auction dynamics, the art market in 2022, and current tastes and trends. Participants will receive first-hand experience to view a live auction, and gain insights on how an auction is run and set up.
