One night I was woken by a terrible sound. The lightning bashed against the window as the light illuminated the trees in the distance. The misty glow from the forest filled the room as shadows crept up on me. Surrounding me. I heard screams coming from afar, echoing around lonely, dusty room. The lightning tore apart the inky black sky. I felt like the soldier, broken (inside and out)...

The next morning all was quiet, not a sound. “Mum is there something you’re not telling me about Dad?” I asked inquisitively. We usually don't talk about Dad but I wanted the truth. I’d had enough of lies and tricks. “No I’d tell you anything.” she replied nervously. Dad’s shadow was still sat there staring at me. “Mum where’s Dad?” She stood up and walked to the cracked window, I could tell she was annoyed. “Mum?” Not a sound, my heart sank. “Is he coming back?” I already knew the answer, but I wish I didn't ...

The next morning, I was asked to deliver a cake to Grandma, she was ill, very ill. I love her, I wanted to get there as quick as possible. I set off on my way. Mum stopped me in my tracks. “Don’t go through the forest.” she explained (as she usually does). “Go the long way round.” I stared at her, and thought, what could be in the forest I wondered, it can’t really be that bad, can it? It could be fun, an adventure. An adventure it was…

For the first time a decided to venture into unknown, I wanted to be quick in case Dad came back. I thought it would be fun… I thought wrong….. Nervously, I tip-toed through the forest, the trees closed in on me, reaching out trying to grab me. Shadows creeping, branches crashing into the ground, trees like soldiers, proud and tall. But inside, broken, like me. Darkness fills the forest, it’s like it’s chasing me. I ran further on into the forest, not knowing what was lurking in the shadows, watching, following..

Soon I bumped into a small boy, he looked strange. Like the forest. The trees came spinning round to us. His lips were cracked, chilled and icy. Frozen. He stood there and stared at me. Frozen… “Do you want to buy a nice milky cow?” He questioned in a strange, adult like voice. “I’ll trade you for that yummy cake.” He tried to grab the cake from my hand . “Get off! (why would I want a cow?)” I asked. He looked desperate. I peered over at the cow, he was angry, very angry, or so I thought. “There must be plenty of food in the forest.” I told him. “It’s all rotted away, just like the forest, and just like me.” I turned, I felt like someone watching us. I turned back. And he was gone... 5

Soon, I found a girl (she looked very interested in my cake.) Whispers filled my ear. “But it looks so good.” I turned around, afraid. Spinning, she's there , watching, waiting. “H-h-h-h-ello.” I say. Silence, whispers come, hugging me, surrounding me. “No food for 100 years, I'm so hungry.” I turn and turn again. She was gone? Just a flock of her golden hair remained on the floor. She reminded me of some one, don't know who... 7
As I venture further on, the forest got colder, darker, but warmer at the same time, I don’t know why, I just couldn’t put my finger on it. I noticed two kids sat by fire. “Hello, have you seen my Mummy and Daddy? They were cutting down trees over there, but they haven't come back.” They were sat next to a small tree, it was cut in half. I didn't know what to do so I carried on walking. Suddenly, I heard screams from behind. I turned and looked back. Their fire (which they were sat by) was gone, so were they, mist hung down from the trees. Something wasn’t right, so I ran, ran for my life. Again, a scream, but this time it was different, it didn’t sound like a scream, sort of like, a wolf howl...

It was freezing now, I felt like it was mix of Antarctica, and hell. “Boy, I wish I had a jacket.” Suddenly a bright glow filled my eyes, blinding me. It took my eyes a couple of seconds to adjust. “A coat!” I shouted thankfully I grabbed it, victoriously, and ran. A felt different now, like someone was following me. The coat felt like it was thin air, doing nothing, in fact I felt even colder now, an icy chill cut down my spine pushing me round the corner, I was there... 10
There it was, Grandma’s house

I knocked on the rusty door “Hello It’s me Grandma.” No reply. Reluctantly, I pushed the door open. It was strange, she usually comes to welcome me, not today. It’s just because she’s ill I thought to myself, reassuringly. I stepped round the corner and I couldn’t believe my eyes...

3 days later all had settled down. The sun shone, and no-one entered the forest. “He still hasn’t returned. But maybe, just maybe, he’s out there, he might of just got lost.” Slowly, she got closer and closer. “I’ll just go round the edge.” The boy’s mum thought. And just a thought it was…
