PROJECT: Primary School - PAWH Schools Competition LOCATION: Kuwait AREA: 23,760 sqm Awarded 1st place winner of the PAWH Schools Competition in 2019.

Designed for the Public Authority of Welfare and Housing in Kuwait, the school acts as a prototype for future schools to be built around the country. Flexibility and adaptability were thus key features of the design considerations. The design shown is one of three variations of Primary School, Middle School for Girls and Middle School for Boys. The design is composed of clusters of adaptable classroom blocks, which take into consideration the possibility of future expansion.

PROJECT: Museum Extension - Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Center LOCATION: Kuwait AREA: 1,921 sqm

The need for a temporary exhibition space in the largest museum in Kuwait created the challenge of designing a structure that relates to the existing facilities, while still maintaining its own identity. The museum extension is visible from the street, standing out as a beacon of light, while within the complex, a pathway leads from the existing facilities to the main entrance, causing a visible “crack, as if to announce the arrival of this new entity.

PROJECT: Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Canopy Design LOCATION: Kuwait AREA: 2,443 sqm

The intention of the design is to reflect the prestige and grandiosity of the already existing building of the KCCI, while creating shaded areas for the employees to be able to walk back and forth between he parking and the main entrance. The simplicity of both the design and the materials allow focus to remain on the main building.

PROJECT: Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) LOCATION: Kuwait AREA: 27,192 sqm

Located in the 40+ year old research center in Kuwait, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research wanted to create a new complex to accommodate and reflect their advancing technological needs. The premise was that each of the five departments (Nano technology, Food and Nutrition, Nuclear energy, Sustainability and Biotechnology) was to be independent from the other, complete with separate entrances, while still maintaining the image and proximities of a unified building. Thus the solution was to have the five buildings connected through a central “hub’ or space, where collaboration and exchange of ideas can take place. The buildings are then arranged around the central space, creating the heart of the complex, which then starts to spread outwards, seen in the landscape and master plan design.

PROJECT: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Headquarters in Bahrain LOCATION: Bahrain AREA: 30,055 sqm Winner of Design Competition for General Secretariat Council.

Honoring the architectural heritage of the region, while still providing a fresh yet conservative interpretation of the language was the primary design intent for the new GCC Headquarters in Bahrain. The complex is composed of three stone-clad buildings arranged around a central plaza, creating a ceremonial approach to the building. The main building contains the office function, while the secondary buildings houses the conference center, meeting hall, cultural center and diplomats’ residence.

PROJECT: J3 Mall LOCATION: Kuwait AREA: 104,314 sqm

The result was the design of a new residential city in the south that with focus on physical and mental well-being, specifically though the integration of nature and the outdoors. At the heart of it is the J3 parcel Mall, which acts as the main attraction point and bloodline to the small city. Design took place in 2018 with construction efforts aimed for 2025.

PROJECT: Kuwait Embassy in Mauritania LOCATION: Mauritania AREA: 28,860 sqm

The project of the Kuwait Embassy in Mauritania is an exercise in diplomacy, acting as a symbol to reinforce and strengthen the ties between the two countries. While safety and security was a key consideration during the design process, the aim was still to create a livable space within the walls of the compound, housing the diplomats, the ambassador and his international visitors. All the buildings are intended to have a contemporary play of volumes, while still relating to traditional Kuwaiti Architecture and also taking into consideration the local climate and environment.
