After interviewing my partner, Mitchell, I pieced together ideas and imagery from his answers to create a personalized quote:

What Worked Well I liked how the colors worked out in this project. The watercolor texture I used for the water and the turtle also helped tie together the front side and the back side. I think this booklet captured the essence of my partner.

Improvements I believe there could have been more refinement in the shapes being used, as well as the placement of the pieces. There is a lot of imagery in this layout, but there isn’t a clear focus.

What I Learned In this project, I learned how to incorporate other mediums to make a mixed media piece. Textures may seem scary at first, but when it is used in the right way, they can make the piece have much more dimension.

Discovering The Relationship Between Design and Human Experience

? Problem Statement Creative work reaches deep into our intuitive and unconscious minds, into our hearts and feelings. The sea change design process helped to define your calling and its embedded meaning. Now you will examine the ways in which this abstract idea can be interpreted and represented in visual form, offering clarity, embedded meaning and understanding to the viewer.

Goal Visualize a highly abstract idea that sources from your growing awareness of the deeper aspects of yourself, in your own personal voice by exploring design elements, typography and diverse processes.

Deliverable Design a poster of your calling intention with a calendar for the year 2019 22x 28 minimum final size; 4cp 1st level of information: Your calling (you can add your embedded meaning) 2nd level of information: Calendar (keep it to less than 1/4 of the format)

Stay away from literal translation and use metaphors and story telling for your design. Emphasis will be placed upon original concept development and the exploration of diverse processes, techniques and methods. You will be expected to experiment and explore, thereby expanding on your visualizing skills.

Process I went through a meditative process in which I let my mind bring to me a defining moment in my life. I took this moment and analyzed it to come up with a piece of wisdom that I learned from the moment. From there on, I was able to keep building upon that wisdom to formulate a calling intention in which my inner call to action was born.

Calling Intention

“ How can I encourage and foster friendships for youth to build a community where everyone has a sense of belonging?

Concept After formulating my calling intention, I pinpointed some of the main points in my intention to focus on: Youth, belonging, and community. I decided to use brightly colored paint strokes to represent youth, and a harmonic spiral pattern to illustrate inclusiveness.

What Worked Well I liked how the vibrant colors of the galaxy spiral worked well on top of the black background. The concept of youth that I was trying to portray with these vibrant colors came out the way I wanted.

Improvements I believe that the typography could have used more refinement. The angle of the words did not all match in terms of perspective. I would also simplify the miscellaneous elements in the background, like the little center glow.

What I Learned In this project, I learned how to turn experiences into design with a purpose. I believe that having this kind of skill will be quite useful in creating more meaningful work in the future.

Leveraging Your Callings into Organizational Intentions

? Problem Statement Entrepreneurship and branding—Purpose, Identity, Web Appearance & Artifact

Goal You will be organized into groups of 3–4 students with similar callings. Design an intention for a fictitious nonprofit organization that engages in the field of water: • Water Literacy • Water & Politics / Management / Social Justice / Gender Equality • Water & Culture / Consciousness / Appreciation • Water & Art / Imagination / Mastery

Deliverable Your group will design: • Name and intention • Visual identity • Online appearance • One artifact of your organization, eg: poster campaign, sculpture, product, animation, exhibit, etc • Ripple story 11x17 booklet wire bound with the following pages: 1. Creative brief 2. Brandmark 3. Area of Isolation 4. Homepage 5. Artifact 6. Ripple story

Process Our group was formed by bringing together five people with similar calling intentions. We then pulled recurring themes from our five calling intentions to create a new intention for our water based organization. We brainstormed a name for our organization and planned out a direction for our organization below.

Calling Intention

“ How can Aquadigm engage youth to create a sustainable water culture to shift water consciousness? ”

Concept Our group name is Aquadigm, created by the combination of the two words, “Aqua”, and “Paradigm”. Our intention is to create an immersive experience for youth in order to guide them to change they way they think about water. With our artifact, an interactive tide pool and trash tunnel which will be installed as add ons to local aquariums, we seek to create a ripple that will ultimately lead to a sustainable water culture and planet.

An interactive installation that connects to a larger aquarium across the globe. Guests will enter through either entrance of the "Aquadigm Touch Pool" exhibit and make their way through toward the "Trash Reef" Tunnel Experience.

Within the touch pool exhibit we promote our guests to immerse themselves in a hands-on experience where they can interact, hold and see living animals and plants found in our oceans tide pools.

The Problem

The Current Crisis

Ripple story

Artifact Continued

After walking through the touch pool room, guests will make their way through a darker door that opens up into a dimly lit tunnel.

Intention: How can Aquadigm engage youth to create a sustainable culture to shift water consciousness?

The inside where guests walk through is constructed with plaster to mimic a reef that has been littered with salvaged ocean garbage.

Interactive Installation

Artif

act

In front of each pile of items are plaques with descriptions of how much of each specific item is pulled out of the ocean each year, how much may still be out there, and talk about ways that guests do their part in helping prevent such items from ever making it out to sea in the first place.

ction

As guests walk through the tunnel, the glass (which has been tinted to make the water behind it look murky and dirty) begins to clear up to show guests what a thriving environment looks like and how we can all help maintain a clean, healthy planet.

Our artifact is an interactive installation that connects to a larger aquarium across the globe. It combines tide pool exhibits with a deep-sea walkthrough glass tunnel composed of trash.

Immersing

Intera

Being

Trash Reef Tunnel

Interacting with our installation invites an immsersive experience that demonstrates the beauty between pollution and the ocean. Touching, feeling the water, seeing water in a new perspective, and connecting emotionally is all part of shitfing our consciousness around water.

Youth We want to reach and engage youth as the next generation is our future. Our installation gives local youth the oppourtunity to experience local and global perspectives around water consciousness.

Aquadigm Culture

Aquadigm is committed to shaping our youth with life changing immersive experiences, locally and globally, that create a sustainable culture and allow a shift in water consciousness. We work with water experts, psychologists, educators, and scientists to make this a reality.

Sustainable Culture/Aquasphere World

Culture

As our local installations foster global awareness and water consciouness, the path to a “sustainable culture is being built, allowing for the creation of a thriving Aquasphere.

Analysis | Project 03

What Worked Well I believe that the overall theme and concept used in our project was a strong idea. Using an “immersive experience as the main concept, it was possible to build a whole brand off of it that is interesting and deep.

Improvements Although our idea was strong, I believe that we could have done a better job keeping a cohesive visual style. Every part followed the overarching theme in concept, but not every part looked like it belonged to the same project.

What I Learned In the duration of this project, I learned that working on design as a group requires a lot of good communication and responsiveness from each person. The best part about working in a group is the huge pool of ideas, whereas the trickiest part is keeping everything cohesive.
