Welcome to the International Water Summit (IWS)
World Future Energy Summit 2012
Calling Global Water Leaders...
“The challenge of sustainable access to water is becoming ever more demanding and urgent. Arid regions, especially GCC countries, are facing water scarcity challenges and continue to rely on energy intensive desalination practices to maintain water supplies. At the International Water Summit we will address the important challenges facing the water sector in an interactive and comprehensive manner. This year, we will address the vital relationship between water and energy; focusing on how we optimize the use of both resources. “ The Summit will act as a platform upon which government, industry, academic and technology leaders can identify the investment and partnership opportunities that address these challenges and yield solutions. By acting collectively and building upon our experiences, I am confident that we can take the necessary steps to overcome the obstacles we face together.”
“There is a strong connection between water and energy and a tremendous potential for efficiency improvements. Being a water-scarce place that has established a leading global position in future energy, it makes perfect sense to co-locate the inaugural International Water Summit with the World Future Energy Summit in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi. We welcome you to make the most of both events and help bring the water-energy nexus to life.” Frederic Theux President, Reed Exhibitions Middle East
Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber CEO, Masdar www.internationalwatersummit.com
Attend one global water event with three authoritative platforms The International Water Summit (IWS) will be held in conjunction w ith the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) from 15 to 17 January 2013 in Abu Dhabi as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW). IWS will feature three influential events - the Summit, the Exhibition and the Conference. You will have three opportunity-laden days to strategise with world leaders, network with global experts and make new business connections.
The Summit
Strategise with Global Leaders
15 January, 2013 As a natural extension of the UAE’s commitment to sustainability, day one will be held in conjunction with the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), bringing the nexus of mankind’s two most vital resources to life: water and energy. Abu Dhabi will also host the prestigious International Renewable Energy Congress (IREC) during the summit on day one. Hosted by alternate governments every two years and convened by REN21, this high-level political conference series is dedicated exclusively to renewable energy. The Abu Dhabi event (ADIREC) will build upon the successes and outcomes of the previous conferences held in Delhi, Washington, Beijing and Bonn.
The water-energy nexus:
Water and energy are intricately linked – generating energy requires water, and producing water uses energy. The nexus between water and energy is an issue that world leaders are increasingly moving to the top of their agendas and no less so during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
World Future Energy Summit 2012
The UAE provides a strong example of the water-energy nexus in arid regions. More than 70 per cent of the nation’s water production, transportation and processing costs are in energy. With the great global minds of energy and water together at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, we’ll be taking the opportunity to bring the water-energy nexus to life in a resource-scarce region.
“Water security is no longer a domestic issue but rather an urgent global concern for policy and decision makers. When global experts meet in Abu Dhabi for the International Water Summit, their task will go beyond showcasing the challenges water security faces in different parts of the world. Their mission will be to seek practical and viable solutions to overcome these challenges and ensure water security globally.” H. E. Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water United Arab Emirates
The Exhibition
A multitude of possibilities from across the entire water sector 15 - 17 January, 2013
The Exhibition is the ideal meeting platform for regional buyers both from the public and private sectors. New projects will be elaborated and partnerships developed at the event. It’s an opportunity to source innovative technology and trade with solution providers, share best practices and stay up to date with the latest global trends.
The Exhibition will include the following features: · Project Stream: A business market place for buyers and sellers with real projects to discuss. The Project Stream will be a powerful
connector of buyers and sellers from the international water community. Get down to business and explore mutually beneficial synergies and make the most of highly-focused networking opportunities.
· Food Water Nexus: The challenges of providing food to a growing population while managing scarce water resources will be discussed at IWS. Solutions will be found through initiatives that involve educating agricultural producers, promoting sustainable practices, and enhancing water usage efficiency. The event will build upon and further the international agenda.
· Round Table discussion: Exchange, debate and explore strategies and best practices in water sustainability for arid environments worldwide. To find out more about how International Water Summit can impact your business, please contact:
“The Regulation and Supervision Bureau (RSB) is proud to support IWS. RSB, in conjunction with Waterwise*, is committed to delivering a sustainable, secure and efficient supply of water for today and for future generations.”
