2
The residential design is for a house one the coast of Port St. Joe, Florida. The home is for a couple who is aging and plans to use this as a vacation home and one day a permanent home to age in. The client has provided a floor plan and the design embodies the idea of an elegant oasis. The client specified a desire for a clean, transitional, neutral interior. This design explores these ideas of universal design principals, architectural detailing and decorating to the clients’ taste. The floor plan was provided by the client.
CONCEPT The design of Murdaugh’s new residence on the coast of Port St. Joe will reflect the ideal of an “elegant oasis.” The couple hopes to own a vacation home that will possibly be where they choose to permanently live in as they age. GROUND LEVEL FLOOR PLAN
OUTDOOR AREA The outdoor area eliminates the boundary between the outdoors and the home. It creates the perfect entertainment space to really enjoy the landscape. It includes a wet bar, dining area and a fire pit. This space is ideal for entertaining guests and enjoying the beach. There’s a storage area to store any cushions while away and any water toys. This is where the architectural feature is located. The wooden beams protrude from the first level to create a more intimate area outside, while still keeping the outdoor landscape unified with the space.
SECOND LEVEL FLOOR PLAN
KITCHEN The kitchen is an elegant open space that incorporates several of the AARP HomeFit Guide’s suggestions. The kitchen design uses a modern, yet traditional design to create a sophisticated, light space. The design has marble counter tops and cool gray cabinets. To create a focal point, a marble back splash draws the eye to the copper hood. Other copper elements are incorporated to complement the hood and contrast the cool gray interior.
CORPORATE DESIGN
3
This office design gives an overview of the design for Revolution Brewery’s corporate office as they expand and open a new location in Nashville, Tennessee. The design incorporates the brewery’s branding, business structure, and marketing area. The office’s design aims to accommodate all types of work.
LEVEL 1 FLOOR PLAN
ABOUT REVOLUTION Revolution Brewery is Illinois’s largest independentlyowned brewing company. The company began with Josh Deth in 2010 and has been expanding since. He tried opening a few breweries in the early 2000s, but they proved to be unsuccessful. After finding an old building on Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago, the dream became possible. After 6 years, the brewery made it on to the Brewers Association’s Top 50 Craft Brewing Companies in the United States List. “Revolution believes in the value of hard work. We work hard to provide great, accessible brews for everyday people.”
LEVEL 2 FLOOR PLAN
Open OFFICE FLOOR PLAN This space uses an open office space plan to create a collaborative work environment. While the space is extremely open, privacy is maintained by providing screens and a panel system at each work station. To separate the functions of the company, each team is grouped together into their respective zone. This will allow team members to communicate with each other effectively. The open ceiling further provides an open office feeling, while the lowered ceiling provides acoustic panels and way finding.
LEVEL 3 FLOOR PLAN
Collaborative Work Space The office offers a collaborative area to allow employees to have diverse work areas. The space allows employees to work alone or with coworkers. The area provides large “hot desks for a temporary work space, private meeting booths for multiple workers to use at once, and enclosed seats for private work. It maintains the warm color palette used through the office and incorporates the wooden beams which protrude into the ceiling. This wooden feature provides way finding and visual interest to the space.
