CHRISTINE DITARANTI 2022 Architecture Portfolio
CHRISTINE DITARANTI Passionate about the intricate processes behind designing space, I approach architecture with a detail-oriented mind. I believe that rational, thoughtful designs have the greatest power to impact people positively. I am particularly interested in civic architecture and contextual design, focusing on community integration and connecting buildings with the urban fabric. christine.ditaranti@gmail.com 973.768.8807

01 SHARSWOOD ECOTONE NET-ZERO ENERGY OFFICE BUILDING Sharswood, Philadelphia, PA | Spring 2020 The Sharswood neighborhood has recently been subject to rapid development. This wave of transformation has contributed to the distress of a community that is experiencing displacement and disregard. The EcoTone Office building intends to bolster the exisiting advocacy movement by reconciling community contributors and commercial investors into an office building that creates opportunities for interaction through environmentally-conscious design. The project provides both leasable office spaces as well as important neighborhood resources such as a community room and fitness center. Collaboration with Reid Young, Olivia DeAgro, Dillan Hobby, B.Arch 2020 and Peter Fulton, M.Arch 2020

PASSIVE STRATEGIES LEADING TO ENERGY REDUCTION semi-conditioned space
conditioned space
ROOF WING Encourages a change in air pressure differential, producing a high velocity wind and pulling the rising hot air out of the building
PV ARRAY 814 panels of 425 W produces 459,407 kWh per year
CENTRAL LIGHT WELL Semi-conditioned atrium-like space that allows light into the northern conditioned spaces
CONDITIONED SPACES Enclosed by semi-conditioned spaces as an added thermal barrier
ACTIVE SYSTEMS Provide conditioned, clean air during more extreme weather
RAINWATER COLLECTION Captured along the roof slope and piped to wetlands
N SERVICE CORRIDOR
S
Provides added insulation on north edge of building
EARTH TUBES Provide passively preconditioned fresh air to the semi-conditioned spaces
WETLANDS Water storage container that is reactive to the season and passively cleans water prior to the active systems

02 INTERWEAVING DWELLING + URBAN EXPERIENCE MIXED-USE RESIDENTIAL BUILDING Center City, Philadelphia, PA | Spring 2019 Located in the Rittenhouse District of Philadelphia, this project is a mixed-used residential building focused on interweaving the complexity of city life with the intimacy of dwelling. The urban experience is typically busy and has many points of interaction that should not end once you go home. The project scales down and curates these experiences into an interactive dwelling intended to bring residents together in a connected community. Interwoven public spaces throughout the building creates a unique social landscape and will ultimately be beneficial to the community inside as well as the surrounding neighborhood.
Collaboration with Reid Young, B.Arch 2020
03 URBAN REVITALIZATION TRANSIT HUB AND PUBLIC SPACE Largo di Torre Argentina, Rome, Italy | Fall 2018 Working with the urban void of the ruins of 4 ancient temples and a dense traffic area in the city, this transit hub and public space works in Largo di Torre Argentina, Rome to accommodate the site’s dynamic needs. An intial analysis identified two unique zones and the architectural support they required. The transit hub, with two sidewalk entrance points that lead below street level, assists commuters with shelter and a place to track routes as they wait for the bus. This space also serves as an information gallery about the history of the ancient temples, which leads out to an open air public space for locals and tourists to get an eye-level view of the ruins.
01 Dattner Architects ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN FIRM New York, NY | Summer 2017, 2018 I worked at Dattner Architects during the summers of 2017 and 2018. As an intern in the transportation and infrastructure studio at Dattner, I had the opportunity to work on multiple projects in New York City. This experience was formative to my early career in the professional world as I was able to help develop projects in a dense urban fabric. My project experience during these summers ranged from assisting with a scope development on an existing NYPD Station house in Brooklyn, to creating marketing materials for a PATH Harrison station in Harrison, New Jersey, to progression a design development set for a NYPD Station House in Queens.
02 WRT Design ARCHITECTURAL, LANDSCAPE, PLANNING, & URBAN DESIGN FIRM Philadelphia, PA | May-December 2019 I worked at WRT full-time during the summer of 2019 and part-time during the fall semester of the 5th year in college. Most of my time at the firm consisted of advancing drawings in a CD set for a 6-story residential building in Woodlyn, PA. This experience expanded my knowledge of the programmatic needs of a residential project as well as working through the details of a building construction set. I also had the opportunity to visit the sites for a number of other projects at the firm nearing completion and developing punchlists. My final task at WRT consisted of working on the initial planning of the second phase of a residential project in Schenectady, NY.
03 BLT Architects ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN FIRM Philadelphia, PA | June 2020 - Present I’ve worked on a number of mixed-use residential projects at BLT Architects. My primary project was a 7-story, 47 unit project in Northern Liberties, where I assisted with the design and documentation from the schematic design phase through construction documents. I regularly attended owner meetings and handled consultant coordination for this project as well. I also helped to advance the drawings and coordination of a 32 -story project in Center City. Currently, I am developing the unit designs for a 5-story project in Fishtown. In between projects, I supported the proposal developments and pre-design phases of several buildings. Outside of projects, I have been involved with the Green Team and with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion group at the firm. ©blt architects 2021
