Valencia Film Institute Higher Education
The Valencia Film Institute is located in the middle of the Mission District in San Francisco. It is an up and coming neighborhood of young hipsters surrounded by a large Latino population. The Institute will function as a school teaching film production to local residents. The facility will also have multi-purpose function areas for the community. Rental space will be available for gatherings, community meeting, and social events. A theater will provide a space for the students to launch their productions. The institute will host green spaces on the exterior of the site. The poem “Unchopping A Tree by W.S. Merwin was used to pull inspiration for the project. The program was based from the words acquiescent and scattered. I was also drawn to the green recurring theme throughout the poem, which lead to the sustainable design.

Spatial Composition Analysis of spaces
This exercise was to create 10 spaces that coherently worked together and incorporated Eckler’s Language of Space and Form. In designing my program I came up with an Observation Gallery Pavilion that overlooks a park and lake atmosphere. The Structure takes full advantage of the vistas that surround the building to offer a visual experience to the guests. The building is designed on a 125’ by125’ building site with surrounding terrain. While designing my gallery I found the spaces had to be logically formed to have a flowing environment for all to enjoy as the moved through. By referring to Eckler’s, Language of Space and Form, I used the five given spatial terms: graft, rhythm, opacity, itinerary and context. These five Spatial qualities became the building blocks for my project. From there I intentionally added many more spatial qualities such as reveal, gesture, dialogue, juxtapose and interject to create interesting spatial experiences. Each of the spaces created a piece of the gallery coherently tying together the pavilion into a whole. The definitions on the preceding pages are taken directly from Eckler’s Language of Space and Form.

Concept analysis
Looking out over the Tokyo Bay I was inspired by the water and the boats that sailed on the Bay. My Main Influence for my design came from the sails on the boats and how they interacted both as a separate unit and together as an assembly on the water. Their unique combinations and formation brought about the design for the Camera Obscura.

Project_ The Vineyard Course_ Arch 656 Instructor_ Alvaro Bonfiglio-Bardier Site_ Shin Toyosu, Tokyo _Banks of Tokyo Bay in Chome 6
The Vineyard Boutique Hotel The Vineyard, a hotel for wine connoisseurs sits on the banks of Tokyo bay in Chome 6. Located in Shin Toyosu, Tokyo our site is a reclaimed island created in 1937 and later enlarged. One of the main attractions of Toyosu is the Lalaport Toyosu, one of the largest shopping malls in central Tokyo. The island is serviced by the Yurikamome automated elevated train. As well as having road access for vehicles and passage for bikes. Next to our site sits Wild Magic, an urban outdoors park hosting barbecue pits and a campground facility. Just past wild Magic is home to the natural gas and science museum. A fun and exciting place for both adults and children. To the south east of our site sits the Tepco building, cylindrical in shape it is an electric substation and data center. Also To our southeast we have the sky tower and gardens; a condominium still in the process of completion. The island also will soon be the new home to the Tsukji Fish Market. And on clear days there are views of Mount Fuji and the Rainbow Bridge to the south west of our site. I studied the wind distribution, sun and shadows to see how they affect the site. The hotel was placed on an east west axis for passive solar sustainability. I organize the program into public, private and service areas. The concept for this hotel was a boutique hotel for wine connoisseurs. I chose to use materials dealing with wine. The shape of the hotel is based off of the wine barrels used for fermenting the wine. The hotel is shifted into four segments representing the 4 basic wine groups. A small wine vineyard surrounds the hotel and the wine Cellar on location gives the hotel guest the full experience of the journey of making wine.

Project 06_ Mission and Eckerd - Boutique Hotel_ Revit
While researching the Mission District of San Francisco, I came up with the final version for the Mission And Eckerd Street Hotel by combining the concepts of Urban Retreat and Architectural Spatial Arrangements. I took the modern architecture that has become part of the districts fabric and united it with the need for outdoor spaces in an urban environment. The hotel opens up its doors to the community to enjoy the dinning accommodations and invites them to embrace the rooftop space for a place to relax and enjoy their lunch breaks from the busy working day. For this reason, the hotel becomes an asset for both guest and local residences alike.
