sketch showing the corridors

To start from scratch we were provided a corner site which connects to busy roads. So basically my motive was to bring in pedestrian movement into my site which has two reasons one to connect both roads and the other main reason is to promote performing arts. So I created a street that connects two roads that goes inside my site. Also to substantiate it, I provided the public space like cafe and library in the ground floor which will further bring in people.

first floor

There is an amphitheatre where the performance takes places which further connects to the first floor and block of performing arts. The building is actually inward looking as there is no interesting picturesque views around the site. The school for performing arts is being positioned in the backend of the site because the road adjacent to its pretty noiseless that gives them the much needed calmness to perform and educate. There is one formal and one informal space where the formal space do have studios and its secluded whereas the informal spaces and open and prone to public interactions. So the highlight of the building is the corridors where in my terms the corridor is a space where the students spend more time interacting and relaxing so I provided them with a nice corridor space and also repeated it continuously. There is a plaza in the second floor of the building where all the admin blocks are present and also its secluded and buffered. The top most floor does have an interesting space where all the workshop activities are being conducted there and the reason for it is that they can use the terrace space to build or create in the much needed large space which they would never get in any of the floors.

SITE CONTEXT The site is actually located amidst a beautiful cultural territory where there are a lot of temples around its vicinity accompanied by an ever flowing Kaveri river. There are residential chunks to the left of the site and a graveyard towards its east. Not only that it also do have lot of Event spaces like Nagappa Kalyana mantapa. Coming to its geography its gradually sloped with a ratio of 1:12m and its climate is moderate . The site is actually pushed away from its daily viabilites as these is less Bus facilities which inturn makes it calm and quite. The population is very less and the only convincing part is the private transport facility which is regular.

I approached the project by keeping in mind the prime importance of respecting both the positives and the negatives of the site. The site is being located in a remote contoured geography which is closer to a lake that adds to its harmony. The project was basically to design a cluster of 30 houses . Nowadays the basic idea of a simple design is their view towards its surroundings so by taking that factor into consideration I zoned all the building in such a way that every house get equal share of their views and no one is objected from it. I was very stern that i dont want a high rise building as its restrict movement to a confined space so i spread my blocks in such a way as it gives maximum movements to the occupants. I wasn’t pleased about giving a long passage as it discourages any perosn coming to the place as it gives the view of the lake from a distance so i positioned the blocks in such a way that it creates maximum curiosity to the people who come , and also the form of the building is natural.

15 | RIVERVIEW HOUSING

The main important aspect of a cluster of houses is their space for interaction so I provided them with a much need interactive soace right in the centre of the axis to all the clusters as it gives time for leisure and social bonding. Also inorder around the landscape to of a futuristic

to improve the bounty houses I created a enhance the experience home for the occupants.

Coming to the internal layouts , since according to my observation people spend most of their time in their bedroom so I provided all the bedroom with their own balcony space which also gives them the beautiful view of the lake .

View showing the buffer space

Since the community of people living here are mostly painters I also made a point where the space allocated for their hobbies get a good view of the surroundings which sets up a right mood for them to work. View showing the pathway

B I K E R ’ S TA L E PROJECT TYPE : Residential LOCATION : Hypothectical BUILT UP : 81sqm CONCEPT : Everything in one space

Being considering a volume of 3m * 3m * 3m, enclosed in a grid of columns (0.3m*0.3m), floor and roof plates. Taking nine such volumes, create a place of habitation for four persons. Two of the nine volumes are to be treated as voids. Context and user characteristic are self assumed.

The house is designed in such a way the blocks are aligned adjacent to each other where one block is positioned 1m outward than the other that gives an aesthetical appeal of a zig zag structure. Being a typical leisure space the private space is juxtaposed between the other two semiprivate space, where the garage for bikes being the lower block. About the roofing, its been inclined in such a way that it brings the maximum amount of natural light into the space that sets for bright mood appeal. Also there are huge opening all around for the same purpose but in addition to it, is to create a visual connect with the surroundings.

M E LT I N G C O N C R E T E PROJECT TYPE : Office LOCATION : Bangalore BUILT UP : 2000sqm CONCEPT : Breaking norms

Its a typical reconstruction kind of project where the internal structural components like columns lift and staircase are constant. I have been asked to design a space around these constant components that symbolises “SURREALISM” combination of classical and modern.

25 | MELTING CONTRETE

MELTING CONCRETE | 26

Surrealism is like a fantasy or dream put to reality. The Office buildings have a standard in which they are designed in todays world. The idea was to break out of the standards and provide and unimaginable experince to its users. Thinking of a ‘living structure’ lead to the idea of creating a building that ‘inahles and exhales’. The monster that inhales from the bottom and exhales from the top in a way that air flows in from the bottom and out from the top. To meet the idea of providing an unusual experience, the day to day life of users was taken in account and Glass was used as a key material in the making of the design.

Section

27 | MELTING CONTRETE

Glass was used as floor slab and not windows, such that users look down or up to see the nature , instead of looking to the sides, thereby breaking the norms. Nature was also added as an element to enhance the design, by providing installation of inverted trees whose branches could be used as seating. Continuing the concept of breaking norms lead to designing the building where concrete being strong structure that holds everything was used to represent the building in a way thats its melting.

3ARM PROJECT PROJECT TYPE : Veterinary Institute LOCATION : Bannerghatta, Bangalore BUILT UP : 8000 sqm CONCEPT : Shade

The site called for the design of a veterinary institute that also includes a hospital and research centre for the animals. Keeping in the mind the locals , a public outreach program was also a part of the design. While learning about the design of an institutional building , the design even helped in learning about psychological and physical interactions between various living beings.

29 | 3ARM PROJECT

3ARM PROJECT | 30

SITE CONTEXT The site is stationed near Bannerghatta Biological Park where low lying buildings are mostly prominent in the area(i.e one or two floor high) and adding on to it ,has upcoming housing projects near this site. The site has a depth on one of the its side and in its rear side it has got a picturesque view which is filled with Ethiopia trees which is followed by hill which is a rare sight. The climate is quite moderate and also windy. The site is in such a way, it is isolated from the busy road which gives the space a sense of calmness, undisturbed due to its less population.

Master plan

The geography of the site makes it fascinating, as it is very calm and serene. The site was a barren land receiving direct sunlight throughout the day, thereby lacking any kind of greenery. These factors lead to me to the idea of play of shadow and light, which I carried about with a play of roof structure and not just by bringing in trees. I brought about the idea of shade by providing three wings where each wing shaded the other and also enhancing user experience. The ramp was provided with an intention to enhance the user experience with respect to view of the hill. 3ARM PROJECT | 32

The vertical block depicts the institute and the horizontal blocks depict hospital. The ramp allows the movement of the people to the other end of the site thus giving them a enjoyable and new experience all together. This ramp also accompanies with a cafe. Ramp in the form of a garden, flows through all the spaces

I wanted to include the local residents to my site because i feel it is always necessary to consider the localites for the success of the project. I have allocated the auditorium to the back end of the site viewing the hills so that it gives them their much need privacy. The academic building is positioned towards the end such that it gets the scenic view of the hills which is accompanied with classrooms with green buffers near them.

Green spaces & Dramatic Water bodies as buffer

33 | 3ARM PROJECT

The classrooms were connected to the cafe through the ramp if one would like to go to cafe from the classroom. There is a clear identification of entry and exit so there isn’t any confusion what so ever in the user journey. These three blocks had a double corridor in them which is sufficiently provided with greens from the ramp.

View showing the shaded area

I tried to reflect the calmness of the surrounding in my design by wrapping my building with green cover such that the user could have a blissful connect with nature. The design in overall was an effort to bring various realms of nature together in order to enhance user as well as the experience of the animals. View showing the green ramp

FULL SCALE WORKSHOP PROJECT TYPE : Workshop LOCATION : CMR, Campus CONCEPT : Detachability The main idea of the workshop was to experiment a new material and to get used to its properties. This is a part of our semester activities where we all work together in 1:1 scale. The intent is to make a seating for two.

BANCER The idea of making a two seater bench for bachelors was to make it light weight and portable which created a concept of DETACHABILITY. - So they were no screws used. - All the joinery was very simple.

FULL SCALE WORKSHOP | 52

R E - C R E AT I O N

The making of the structure gave an idea of how the joinery details sit and the precision that goes into making it. Moreover, it also helped to understand the feeling of the space and proportion with the height of the wooden beams running as tall as human height, adding to the spatial quality. In terms of materiality, the wood adds to the feel of the space and how it enhances the experience of standing underneath the structure and looking at the wooden beams form angles. Aesthetically also the structures gives a learning of a new language.

K E N G O K U M A PAV I L L I O N PA R I S Made by Kengo Kuma &amp Associates for Galerie Phillipe Gravier, the structure is primarily based on little nomadic shelters, and has been assembled making use of methods standard of standard Japanese carpentry. Titled Yure – a Japanese expression for a nomadic shelter – the pavilion is manufactured up of identical wooden strips which have been arranged in a lattice-like composition. “The pavilion consists of identical wooden pieces that have been stacked, twisted and assembled to create a poetic dynamic volume,” mentioned Kuma. “It provides an organic geometry by a geometric composition of wood.”

Columns

Bolts

Diagonal bracing

This assembly method enables the structure’s appearance to adjust depending on the standpoint. From a single angle it seems to be a closed and complex matrix, and from another an open lattice.

PHOTOGRAPHY Photography is an art of substituting words to convey a story or a memory. A moment freezed reveals its richness. Me being a travel enthusiast love to capture my moments of the drive to relish in the future. It had always given me the excitement to travel places and explore the unexplored. My immense joy of drive comes through the lens of my camera. For me traveling leaves me speechless until my photos turns me into a storyteller.
