Playful Elegance

BLUPRINT ISSUE

DESIGN STATEMENT The elegance lies in the construction – tall and slim, based on a modular and flexible interior. The surfaces are clean with sophisticated details and clever design. This is historically bound to the world famous Scandinavian design. Strong materiality with real, long-lasting materials. This is the base of all of the designs. Then we add the layering, some playful elements and lighting to make a complete design. Layering can be perforated patterns in wood and metal plates and bring depth to the experience of the rooms. General lighting is indirect and recessed while atmospheric lighting is accented with pendants and standing lamps. It is also crucial that the guest have access to technical necessities wherever he or she needs it. The modern guest must charge cellphones and other devices at any time! These functions can be seamlessly integrated in the interiors with clever solutions. The sum of all our thoughts is clear – the design statement is:

Elegant & playful!

09

BLUPRINT ISSUE

In the making of the Bluprint of Meeting & Events we return to core values:

SOPHISTICATED – STYLISH – ICONIC In any design issue we ask ourselves – is this related to sophisticated, stylish or iconic? If not, the design isn’t right. We work step-by-step in a design model based on the work of Ruud Boer. Next step after checking with the core values is the parallel work with functions and design. Each can be effected of the other, and it’s a creative but also demanding process. Further on we ensure that the functions are flexible, and the designs gives the right visual experiences. Before the design is complete we check that flexible solutions are modular and adaptable for the local prerequisites and that the visual experience is playful and elegant.

OUR DESIGN APPROACH

With Bluprint M & E Design Model (the circle) as a basis for the design prosess, we go further on to the methodic design approach. The methodical design approach consists of 4 layers. Each layer has an expected timeline. This timeline represents the expected number of years before replacement. The first layer consists of the largest investments and form the base of the project. These elements are crafted from the most durable materials and represent the most timeless design philosophies. The fourth and outermost layer consists of coloring, decor and furniture that creates a vibrant and playful atmosphere. These elements are easily replaced and less cost- intensive. The design method is visualized on the next page.

The global FLAVOUR

In dining, flavor creates taste and sets the mood for the meal. In design, there is also a need for flavors to create the right ambiance. One must carefully select each and every arm.

Materiality is the flavor that creates ambiance in the meeting and events arena. Authentic, natural materials composed with sophistication creates a quality and professional spaces. Our approach is a light and clean approach with attention to details.

14

wood Natural and friendly material to give a comforting and warm feeling.

stone Authentic material that will bring both substance and seriousness to the designscheme. Gives an exclusive touch to overall feel of the facilities. An emidiate feel of quality.

BLUPRINT ISSUE

THE TOOLS Bluprint uses real wood, metals, glass, stone and textiles. Each material will be used in a specific manner. The natural material palette is used in this order: - - - - -

Wood: Modular wall panels, furnishing and inventory Metal: Handles, signage, details (stripes) and patterned decor Stone: Flooring in big rooms, columns and some important walls Textiles: Flooring, furniture and curtains Glass: Lamps, windows and cabinets and decor

The modular interior will be assigned specific materials depending on the actual venue. Additional dĂŠcor, colour palette and textiles add extra spice and reflect local real culture.

leather & fabrics Leather and fabric will enhance the details in the furniture and the joinery. Carefully selected fabrics will create the right mood and the right flavour for the spesific design.

metallics

Metallic effects to give a little bling in a more sophisticated way.

Importance of green influence and fresh air in meeting and events like these are underestimated. For the indoor climate and the achoustics, we recomend an extended use of plantwalls and similar green products.

Local Flavour Nature & culture Each location has its own identity. The nation, city and building itself has impact on the specific project. Our design will adapt to any Radisson Blu hotel to make their own flavor of Elegant & Playful. The local choice of wooden floors, textiles and perforated patterns will reflect the local culture. This will not affect the modular system that is consistent for all Bluprint venues. Wall dĂŠcor and colours on textiles will give the extra spice of real culture.

and spices into the design in decor and coloring. Patterns and layering will give extra depth as well. Radisson Blu has historic values and connection in to scandinavian

design. This will shine through in the design proportions and detailing. The feel will also be apparent in the materiality, realness and honest details. Modularity and efficient solutions is also typical for the

scandinavian design style. In many ways today, the Radisson Blu gives a continental expression, but the new Bluprint will ensure the global connection and the local flavour to give identity. 19

logo and pictures of our projects in the entrance portal welcoming us – this is different from the usual info screen on the wall. The lounge area has a good space to mingle and plenty of comfortable seats to rest. The acoustics are better her than I’m used to.

The employees of your firm are especially interested in design – did they appreciate the refurbishment?

EXPERIENCE “ I’m surprised… this is different! “ Rolf Maurseth is the CEO of one of the largest architect firm In Scandinavia with offices in 14 different cities in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. He has got his share of stays at hotels with meetings and events, and have earned his “gold status”. Last weekend he and the management in the firm were guests at the newly renovated meeting & events (venue?) at Radisson Blu in Tromsø. We got to speak with him about his impression of the new concept, and he has added a new concept – Brain Flow – based on his own experience at Meeting & events!

Well, of course we appreciate good design. The interesting part is that the we all have different preferences, but everybody seemed to enjoy the furnishing in their own way and the modern features. It’s easy to enjoy the comfortable and sophisticated design with a touch of playfulness. The colour scheme is balanced and fresh. We can see that it has a touch of local flavor.

What is your favorite part?

I always like clever solutions – especially the wing chairs to make calls and charge cellphone at the same time. The small feature that makes the stay so much easier. But I have to mention that the analogue meeting room was a success for us. With paper to write and draw on we had a really evolving meeting. It was a nice change from the usual technological conference room – it makes us share more thoughts with each other. The participants stands up and get engaged!

What was your experience at Radisson Blu Meeting & Events? When we arrived the employees in my organization was thrilled to see our

BLUPRINT ISSUE But we are of course dependent of modern technology as well. During our stay a special guest turned up and we booked the boardroom for a meeting. Discussions went on, and we needed to contact our colleagues in Copenhagen. On the big screen we had a brilliant video conference and could close the deal right away.

Did you try our Brain food and Brain box? Yes, of course! This is a complete package for LINK arkitektur. All this has been a flowing experience – it’s well equipped and at the same time elegant and smooth. Designwise we are happy for the small surprices and details that spice it up. This is a good place for togetherness! You could call this BRAIN FLOW!

Thank you for the tip – did you enjoy the evening event as well? The event last night was fabulous and we had a great party. First we had a standup comedian on stage and afterwards we danced all night long on the center dancefloor to the rythms of the local Dj’s music. It was quite a transformation from the conference earlier on the day. The lights, the seating and scene-arrangement was completely different – it totally changed the rooms color and atmosphere. We are really happy that our arrangement became a success – thanks to you!

Universal

LINK arkitektur has accumulated extensive expertise in universal design over the years. This applies, for example, to school buildings where we have designed schools according to requirements level 2 for accessibility for the physically disabled (Hetland v.g. school, Rogaland County Council). The subject of universal design is an important part of the procedures and check-lists for designing, and the relevant regulatory requirements and guidelines that apply to public buildings and schools are specifically incorporated into this process. Our designs must meet the requirements of TEK, requirements specified in standards and any additional specifications for the level of accessibility. All of our designs are based generally on the applicable regulatory requirements, but for school projects we also aim to exceed the specified regulatory requirements. The design must facilitate access by persons with various types 04 54

of disabilities, such as restricted movement, orientation limitations (vision, hearing, and cognitive impairment) and environmental issues (e.g. asthma and allergies). The building must be inclusive by conforming to all the requirements for mobility. It must be easy to navigate in and it must not be allergenic. By emphasizing this at an early stage of the design process, good solutions can be found without these necessarily being expensive solutions.

“Accessibility for all, at all times! There are many conditions that must be met in order to ensure access for everyone, e.g. that the access routes to the building and the communication routes in the building are designed to facilitate easy access. Vertical transport in

design

the building is best served by elevators that are logical and accessibly located in the building. As designers, we need make conscious choices in terms of usability. This applies, for example, to the use of materials, the use of colour, contrast, lighting and equipment. Signage and useful technical devices must be an integral part of the building. Larger teaching spaces must be equipped with electronic sound amplifiers and listening equipment to aid those with impaired hearing. Induction loops and/or infra-red systems are recommended, depending on the area to be covered, the requirements for flexibility and the possibility to move from one room to another. In order to achieve positive outcomes in terms of universal design, it is important to focus on this during every project phase. The project must be developed in collaboration with various representatives of the users in order to identify the issues and in order to obtain input regarding the preferred solutions.
