Rapid Schistosomiasis Prevention

Nearly 200 million people require preventive treatment for Bilharzia or Schistosomiasis around the world. In the city of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The illness is spreading within the Msimbazi River. This disease propagates by contact with water small worms that enter people’s skin through skin pores and make their way to blood vessels and lungs. More and more the disease is transmitted on the urban coast of Tanzania due to high flooding, poor water treatment and poor drainage of pit latrines. Found most dominantly in children likely to bathe and play in the infested water and in women who do daily chores such as laundry and dishes in these water bodies, 95% of the total Tanzanian population is at risk, with 50% being infected.
