INTRODUCTION This local care service directory is part of a series of activities undertaken by Naomh Colmcilles to promote positive mental health in East Meath. Naomh Colmcilles and the GAA nationally are committed to promoting positive mental health and to provide and to develop our sports and social links for all in our community. The purpose of this directory is to inform the public that if they have a mental health need there is plenty of willing and relevant support available. Our advice is always to ask for help or support and to get involved in a positive activity if you feel isolated or lonely. Funded under the Genio Trust, Naomh Colmcilles runs a daily programme to this end aimed at bringing people together to promote positive mental health and wellbeing called “How Are You Feeling Today?” in our clubrooms in Piltown. Mental health is something we all have. Unfortunately it has been historically stigmatised and taken out of context with those suffering even mild depression or related conditions often ignored or excluded. Naomh Colmcilles believes positive mental health benefits everyone and is as important as physical health. If you require further information about Naomh Colmcilles “How Are You Feeling Today?” programme please contact Marian @089 434 9545. Remember we are your club in our community. 3

THE PRIMARY CARE GUIDE TO MANAGING SEVERE MENTAL ILLNESS (2007-p6)

22

(WHO, 2007) Mental Health is not just the absence of mental illness. It is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.

23

President of the GAA Liam o Neill said at the launch of Naomh Colmcilles “How are you feeling today?” programme that it; “epitomised the vision of the GAA to serve the communities it is built upon in any way it can”.
