Wearable technology break-through Now, for the very first time, the data can show who, why, where, when, how and how hard people fall. So, with luck, further falls may be prevented. Fall-Safe Assist is embedded in the successful Fall-Safe hip protectors and it identifies and records each and every fall automatically, showing the time/date, the id. of the wearer, location of the fall, its direction and its force, as the weight of the wearer is already known. This information will now enable researchers to pinpoint the factors that are most significant in causing falls, in order to reduce their prevalence. There are now about 100,000 hip break-ing falls in the UK every year, and millions more world-wide. Every hip fracture costs around ÂŁ15,000. Action now is urgent as the problem worsens. Fall-Safe Assist is also a Personal Emergency Response System because, after automatically identifying a fall, it can call the emergency services, through a linked Android mobile, if the faller does not rise to their feet in a prescribed number of seconds. No more fumbling for the button on a pendant, assuming the faller is compos mentis; no unsightly devices worn around the neck or stuck uncomfortably to the body; no expensive sensors mounted all round the home. No more fear of falling when out and about, or even when travelling abroad.
