Diploma in Christian Studies Program (D.C.S.) (48 Credits) These courses are intended as entry level studies in the Bible, Christian theology, and Christian life and service. Completion of these 48 credits is requirement for those seeking a Diploma in Christian Studies. DCS-001 Basic Bible Interpretation – An overview of how the Bible is properly interpreted. DCS-002 Old Testament Survey 1 – An overview of God’s plan of salvation as revealed in the Hebrew Scriptures (part 1). DCS-003 Old Testament Survey 2 – An overview of God’s plan of salvation as revealed in the Hebrew Scriptures (part 1). DCS-004 Life of Christ – An overview of the life of Christ using all four Gospels. DCS-005 New Testament Survey – An overview of the New Testament, focusing on the Acts of the Apostles, Letters and Revelation. DCS-006 Luther’s Small Catechism 1 – A study of Christian doctrine and life using Martin Luther’s Small Catechism as a basis (The Ten Commandments and Apostles’ Creed). DCS-007 Luther’s Small Catechism 2 – A study of Christian doctrine and life using Martin Luther’s Small Catechism as a basis (The Lord’s Prayer, Baptism and Lord’s Supper). DCS-008 Introduction to the Lutheran Confessions and Three Ecumenical Creeds – A study of why written statements of faith are needed in the Christian church and a study of the Three Ecumenical Creeds, with emphasis on the Nicene Creed . DCS-009 Law and Gospel (1.5 cr.) – A study of how Scriptural teachings can be divided into law and gospel and why learning to recognize and apply these teachings properly are key to preserving a gospelcentered ministry. DCS-010 Church and Ministry – A study of the doctrinal basis for the visible and invisible church and the role and scope of the public ministry within the church. DCS-011 Life of Luther (1.5 cr.) – An introduction to the life and teachings of Martin Luther and the Reformation of the sixteenth century. DCS-012 Evangelism – Learning to share your faith with those who do not yet know the Savior. A variety of current methods and settings are explored. Student will compare current and past evangelism methods used in various parts of the world, noting their influence on the methods of today.
DCS-013 Teaching the Bible – How to organize and lead a Bible class. DCS-014 Christian Worship (1.5 cr.) – An introduction to the theology of worship and its practice among Christians. DCS-015 The Christian Family (1.5 cr.) – A study of what the Bible says about the family and the roles each Christian is to play within it. DCS-016 Christian Leadership (1.5 cr.) – A study of what the Bible says about Christian leadership and the qualifications of a leader. Students must apply to the Academic Dean who will then bring the request before the ALS faculty for approval.
