PERSONAL STATEMENT We, humans, are nothing but mere wanderers in space and time, fragile and temporary. Thus, architecture forms an intricate and inseparable piece of our lives which mark the reality of our existence. Before signing up for architecture, I have always loved to indulge myself deep in my fortress of solitude and quietly experience every single detail that comes across my life and every sense that triggers my emotions. I would love to record them by doing sketching or writings. However, this is simply not satisfying. It is as if my thoughts are kept in the cage and left forgotten as time goes by. As such, I am inspired to be an architect. I am attracted by the idea that architecture is able to translate imaginations and senses into realities and enable the public to be part of the stories. “Architecture is the manifold of space lies in the materials and time.” This quote has etched into my mind ever since I started architecture. I am excited by the idea that any structures and buildings that I created would be able to continually become part of the lives of the people even after I have left this world. I am thrilled by the idea that being an architect, we are able to create buildings and spaces that improve the lives of the people. Architects to me, are among the greatest and the most important job of human existence. Architects have always played one of the key roles that affect our daily lives, besides recording the history of human and a particular place in the form of buildings. Due to my notion, I have chosen to pursue my architecture at the University of Sheffield which focusses on communities and social connectivity and have further explored this idea in my master’s project. My belief that architecture should always be about people, place and memories will never change and I am determined to become an architect that will make the world a better place to live in, besides marking the history of our existence through architecture.

MEMORY ARCHIVE + RESEARCH CENTRE Sheffield, United Kingdom 2019-20: MArch Y6 University of Sheffield
The project begins at the year 2035. It is a speculative project that aims to explore the juxtaposition of the physical and digital architecture, old and the new architecture as well as global and local lens to address the thesis questions of: How do we preserve the identity of a place when transformation is unavoidable? The aim of the programme is to employ technology to preserve the identity of a place besides developing a socially engaging technological environment. It targets to be a civic building which will integrate the communities and strengthen the identity of the people and the place. It is proposed to be located at a Grade II listed building, the Wicker Arch to capture the past through architecture besides engaging hologram as the virtual realm to celebrate the present and the future of Wicker.

“ Space is oblivion without light. A building speaks through the silence of perception orchestrated by light.’ -Steven Holl A varieties of openings are substracted to test the natural lighting casted into the interior, which are particularly important to revitalise the existing historic building. This exploration is further continued to the newly proposed building through experimentation of the subtraction models. Interior sculpturing were explored through a series of models to experiment the different possibilities of spatial qualities. The old and the new architecture are in the same dialogue via substraction of the spaces and the poetic lighting casted into the interior. This creates a poetic journey connecting the old and the new building.

V I R T UA L D I M E N S I O N The project is meant to be a coexistence of virtual realm (technology and holographic projection) and the physical realm (tangible architecture). Elements of virtual dimensions play important roles to integrate with physical architecture to create an interesting journey through the building.

AVENUE ARETUSA Italy, Milan 2018-19: MArch Y5 University of Sheffield
Avenue Aretusa is a landscape project that blurs the boundaries with architecture that aims to create an attractive public realm for the neighbourhood. The main intention of the design is to make social space as an attractive park, which helps to integrate the communities and reduce social issues at San Siro because social problems are significant problems at the site especially when it is largely occupied by immigrants. Exploration was done to not only achieve the design intention, but also to ensure the right architecture that helps to rejuvenate the neighbourhood. “People comes where people are This old Scandinavian quote becomes the motto of the project to bring social cohesion via architecture.

D E V E LO P M E N T MODELS
S OA P B U B B L E M O D E L S The soap bubble experiment has enabled the study of various forms to rejuvenate life into San Siro by introducing an organic form in the rigid and rationalist neighbourhood. However, this experiment was afterwards replaced by paper models, which has better developed the spatial experience of blurred boundaries between inside and outside, landscape and architecture. This strengthens the public realm for the people.

UNESCO CULTURAL CENTRE Malacca, Malaysia 2016: Undergraduate final project Winner of ZSR-PAM competition
The project is about designing a UNESCO Cultural Center at Portuguese Settlement, Melaka, to preserve the heritage, culture and the identity of the settlement. Being at the seaside, Portuguese Settlement started off as a fishing village. However, the site has lost much of its identity today. Therefore, the concept for the project is to bring back the essence and memories of the place by extending the only remainings of the fishing village, which are the stilts and the deck that have been acting as a fishing dock into a monumental landscape building. This is to enhance the existence of the remainings by making the building an enlarge version of the dock as well as blurring the boundaries between the building and landscape, inside and outside, so that the building melts as part of the settlement.

THE VALLEY Selangor, Malaysia 2017: Competition during Part I practice MOA + Formzero Architects Job scope: Main assistant architect in design, production and visualisation
T H E WA L K O
OF FOREST
MBAM is an construction association in Malaysia which involves contractors, architects, engineers, etc. The new MBAM Centre must be a new building paradigm in Malaysia. The proposed centre is an iconic structure with artistically crafted landscape, and a sustainable architecture that is more than a landmark. It is not designed as a shell with functions, but with an ambition to become a place that can flourish the community of the industry.
FORM
L ANDSCAPE
The main concept starts with craving out an elongated void that runs from ground front to the upper end of the building as the heart of the building. The void appears from outside like a cave filled with trees, or a funnel that can inhale. While slowly ascending towards the end on third floor, the cave-like space gradually opens up itself and turns into a valley. The landscaped valley is imagined as the spine of the building. It is served as entrance, atrium, circulation and meeting space.
The landscape path can function as an alternative circulation linking from Ground to 3rd floor. Dining space can be extended from indoor to outdoor. Pockets of social corner with crafted vegetation area is also scattered along the path.
URBAN EXTENSION
STRUCTURE
FAC A D E
The building is conceived as part of a larger urban context that merges seamlessly with public space. The front landscape served as multipurpose public plaza that generates closer relationship among people, the city and itself.
Bubbledeck is a flooring IBS structure system. Apart from being a good thermal insulated material and fast installation, it is highly flexible in spatial planning. The wall of valley is load bearing which reduces the number of columns, it increases the efficiency of internal space.
One of the sustainable strategies is to reduce the usage of air-conditioner by making all common area and corridor naturally ventilated. The facade running along the corridor is a double skin system where inner layer is glass louver, outer layer is self-support corrugated metal mesh.
SECTIONAL PERSPECTIVE The valley landscape is designed to be a journey walking through a jungle valley with public space merges seamless as part of the landscape. It is also acting as an interstitial zone before going into the interior spaces. The language of the landscape is the same as the folding loading bearing wall. It consists of triangular seating, planter, flooring pattern etc. so that the whole valley looks as if they are a naturally crafted cave.

This masterplanning is a 107-acres land located at Sunsuria City, a new developing city. It is a mixed development masterplanning with commercials being the main programme. Besides, the concept for the masterplanning is to create a park city with bicycle being the main transportation. A series of diagrams and explorations were done to achieve the concept besides striking the balance with our client’s commercial aim. The main catalyse for the development is Xiamen University, the first branch of the university from China, which is located directly next to our proposed land. The rest of the development in the city consists of residential and commercial components. Other than that, ERL connecting from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is also located next to this masterplanning.
