What is Oboe? Oboe, a marvelous woodwind instrument with an amazing and long history, which has the most delicate and caressing sound, both in solo and orchestra. Oboes are usually made of wood, but can also be made of synthetic materials.
Oboe vs clarinet. What’s the Difference? Oboe and clarinet – related instruments, but don’t confuse them.

Where is oboe used? Today, oboe is used as orchestral or solo instrument in classical music, chamber music, film music, some genres of folk music, jazz, rock, pop, and popular music. Examples: Ennio Morricone’s “Gabriel’s Oboe” theme from the 1986 film The Mission. Skálmöld – “Kvaðning” from Baldur Opeth – Watershed Robbie Williams – It Was a Very Good Year on Swing When You’re Winning. Mariah Carey – Hero Blur – Star Shaped on Modern Life Is Rubbish Camouflage – Love Is a Shield Madonna – Crazy for You

Types of oboe There are many different types of oboe: The standard model is a basic oboe with 23 holes. The Vienna Oboe is a unique but rare tool with 5 holes. Contrabass ﴾or Viola﴿ oboe is a well‐known “English shepherd’s horn”, widespread in foggy Albion, has 16 holes. The piccolo oboe is a Musette with a conical bell and 18 holes. Oboe d’amur is an instrument with a small curved nose and 13 holes. The Hunting Oboe is a crudely crafted 8‐hole instrument that produces short, low sounds like the sound of a war horn. Hekelfon is a bass‐baritone oboe, it sounds one octave below the standard oboe. The sound is melodious, expressive, it belongs to the nose tone. Occasionally is it used in orchestras.
Purchasing Oboe If you are thinking about purchasing an orchestra instrument for practicing and concert performances, but don’t know which instrument to choose, I selected the top 3 best oboes for beginners under $1000.
