the aromatic _herb garden
the cacophony _night market
the cacophony The soundsphere of the Malaysian night market (Pasar Malam); of people preparing all kinds of street food and speaking a concoction of different languages, inspires this gustatory journey through four pavilions: 01. The Aromatic, 02. The Cacophony, 03. The Nostalgia, 04. The Cleansing.

i. The Aromatic_ The senses are opened with the smell of primary herbs and spices of the Malaysian night market; chilli, spring onions, cinnamon, pandan leaves, & parsley.

ii. The Cacophony_ The night market is a bustling intervention under the bridge of King St. It is designed to unfold during the night, and to be kept by day; much like the Pasar Malam culture.

Abstraction Fabrication — a platform for the experimentation of digital form through to its fabrication of a garden pavilion in Docklands, Melbourne. From concept through to build form, the AbFab studio was an experimental studio in collaboration with Arup and Timberbuilt Solutions, testing the tectonic limits of Rhinoceros + Grasshopper, a parametric generative software.
A Proposal for City Square A proposal for a pavilion in City Square, Collin St, Melbourne. The design intention of the pavilion’s centric space was to attract passerby’s and invite spontaneous recreational activities to occur. The skin of the pavilion were angled to provide shade from the Northern Sun.

Iteration 1: Rainwater Belly A deep ‘scoop’ was proposed as being the main feature of this design proposal, letting other programs mould around it. Ruled surfaces became the driving tectonics of this design, creating varied geometry with gradually undulating timber strips.

a r c h i t e c t u r e p o r t f o l i o | 021
Iteration 2: Digital Tracery Using the digital tracery fabrication technique by the students of Pratt Institute School of Architecture as a orecedent, a proposed pavilion with two distinct shells was designed. The tectonics explored a complex lamella system that naturally ovelapped into a curved geometry.

a r c h i t e c t u r e p o r t f o l i o | 023
Final Iteration: Hybrid Shelter Combining the tectonics of a lamella shell structure and that of an undulating wall structure, a final design was proposed by the studio as a garden shed for the Docklands community. The lamella is a self-sustaining timber structure whilst the wall holds planter boxes and seats for communal gatherings.

impermanence The streets of Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, bustles with congestion and hawkers. In response to the prime issue of ‘privatisation of food stalls’ in public spaces in the area, a food hub is proposed to create a communal node and reacitvate the dormant site, providing a space for food stalls and marketplaces to sprout without disturbing its surrounding context. This live + work prototype caters to food stall owners by providing an interdependent system of produce and marketing in the building that maintains the character of local transient markets.

tex-tiles Handmade concrete paving tiles. Design was influenced by a play of an equal amount of positive (tile mass) and negative (vegetation), creating minimal intervention for pedestrian trafic. Construction aided by Rhino 3D and CNC machine.
Each triangular module, measuring about 100mm on each side, is designed to butt to another module and taper to deliver water to encircled plants. The complex design of the tile was created by cutting a Rhino3Dgenerated inverse of a foam mould. The mould was then created by pouring silicone into the foam model, subsequently allowing 12 concrete tiles to be made at one time.
