Atlanta DRUNKEN MARTA Overview:

GANGSEO 2030 LAND USE PLAN

ECO-DELTA CITY

GADUK TOURISM MASTERPLAN

Methodology:

Our idea is to create a public transit network that will serve the premier nightlife and high density residential areas of Atlanta. First, we identified the most popular bars and restaurants within the Atlanta city boundaries according to TripAdvisor suggestions. Then, using ARC population density data and college locations, we mapped residential hotspots where service demand would be high. We used geospatial analysis to create a service buffer of one quarter and one half mile around both origin and destination points. These were overlayed with existing transit routes and used to pinpoint potential stop locations for the proposed routes. Using network analysis functionality in GIS, we determined the optimal routes to safely and efficiently connect bar patrons to popular living destinations, in a way that integrates with existing public transportation options. This resulted in two bus routes, one loop in central Atlanta, and a line servicing north Atlanta and Buckhead residents.

This map shows the residential service areas identified by geospatial analysis. Buffers of one quarter mile and one half mile were identified for location of service stops.

The popular bars and restaurants that were identified in the previous step using TripAdvisor rakings were then given a service buffer of one quarter and one half mile.

We geocoded the top 20 Atlanta nightlife destinations to locate these stops in a point layer.

ULI HINES COMPETITION - CONCEPT DIAGRAM ACTIVATE

ADAPT

Preserve and renovate existing industrial buildings to create flexible spaces that supports a multitude of uses.

Retrofit and enhance the urban fabric through the development of greenspace and energy efficient building system.

Regional Context

The Chicago Confluence is located just north of Goose Island, in the heart of Chicago’s Industrial Corridor.

TRANSIT CONNECTIVITY

Though nearby transit already exists, the site is currently a gap in the larger network; multiple connection points and nodes exist nearby, few directly address the site.

ATTRACT

The addition of new structures and uses as infill development will make this burgeoning district into a richer and more cohesive community.

GREENWAY CONNECTIVITY

Wright’s vision is largely a reality, but must be broadened, branching out from a necklace to an Emerald Lattice; a web of greenery running throughout all of the Second City.

ULI HINES COMPETITION - EYE LEVEL RENDERING PEOPLE’S RIVERWALK

ADAPTIVE REUSE

The riverwalk seeks to open up the shoreline industrialization overtook back to the people of Chicago, their namesake.

Adaptive reuse connects present residents to the past in a tangible way, by allowing them to experience something new in the same spaces as those that came before.

KINGSBURY NORTH Condominium towers taking full advantage of the newly renovated river and shoreline, it provides of the Chicago skyline.

WATERFRONT PLAZA Providing space for people to gather is a priority, and we believe the waterfront plaza serves that purpose.

ACTIVE FLEX SPACE Flex space allows the older building to be they office, brewery, marketplace or makerspace.

OGDEN’S BEER GARDEN In memory of William Butler Ogden, old mayor of Chicago, the beer garden creates more vibrancy in the neighborhood.

B U S A N GANGSEO2030 LAND USE P L A N For this studio, I mainly focused on the possibility of the new KimHae ariport opening adjacent to the Gaduk Island. Currently, the Korean government is considering the relocation of the airport because KimHae Airport cannot operate twenty-four hours. I believe the new airport in this district could potentially solve this issue.

Local Road

• Planned commercial and marina bay along the coastal region • Positioned the fishing village farther away from the center of the site

• Due to the site’s narrow shape and landscape, we planned a road system that allows reasonable accessibility. • Preserved the circular structure of the site and planned road systems accordingly.

Bicycle axis • Tried to design an extensive bicycle facility to compensate for the lack of road system. • Encourage the use of bicycle to attract tourist activity in the site.

Landscape Axis Green Axis Blue Axis • Created a plan that conserves the adjacent mountain and planned green networks accordingly. • Utilized the river stream within the site and planned water front sceneries based on it’s structure.

Connecting Axis Trail

• Similar to road design, we shaped the pedestrian axis based on the physical structure of the site. • While planning a grid structure in the center, we tried to preserve natural curves on the northern side of the site when planning pedestrian network.

Central Axis

• Greatly utilized the slope of the site when planning the general structure of the site. • Planned a connecting axis that passes through the major destinations within the city, encouraging pedestrian activity.

Axis Planning

3D Spatial Plan

1

Made a wide opening between buildings to create a spacious environment. Lowered the floors near the sea to create the right of sight

3

Unified the height of the buildings adjacent to the open space.

Elevation Planning

1

Planned an oval shape pedestrian axis along the open space.

1

2

Connected the pedestrian axis with the youth hostel and the hotel.

2

Promoted first floor commercial for all the buildings near LRT station for easy access.

3

Promoted the oval shape by placing the buildings accordingly.

3

Created an open view of the ocean that can be seen from the LRT station.

Planned a pedestrian node in front of the LRT Station.

Atlanta DRUNKEN MARTA Overview:

Map above shows geolocated locations of top 20 Atlanta restaurants.

This map demarcates residential hot spots based on population density and college locations in Atlanta. These exist primarily in Midtown, Downtown, Buckhead, and Virginia Highlands.

NOT_CHEAP

This map shows the residential service areas identified by geospatial analysis. Buffers of one quarter mile and one half mile were identified for location of service stops.

The popular bars and restaurants that were identified in the previous step using TripAdvisor rakings were then given a service buffer of one quarter and one half mile.

We geocoded the top 20 Atlanta nightlife destinations to locate these stops in a point layer.

SITE PLAN

This site is a senior community in Amelia Island, Florida. I participated in producing the conceptual site plan for this project. This site plan is a Sketchup model rendered with Visualizer. The main building includes independent living, memory care. The site also includes independent living cottages and duplexes. My goal while working on this 3d model was to produce a video that can be shown to the clients.
