The building management unit has placed a signboard prohibiting gathering and trading, but young people still use this public space spontaneously in the evening. This is said to be a cool space, the atmosphere is not stuffy and really quiet like in cafés. When conducting the survey, the group observed the facial expressions of this group of public space users, some teenagers looked very happy, laughing and joking, the others were excited and passionate while skateboarding.

Linked with the building lobby, the sidewalk space here is quite large and airy, and in the evening no commercial activity take place here which makes this space an ideal area for teenagers to use the space for various purposes, such as entertaining and chatting with each other. Objectively speaking, this is a public space with sidewalks for pedestrians, so it is not safe for young people to play such risky games as skateboarding etc., and group gatherings cause an obstruction to pedestrians on the sidewalks. But the youth’s activities make the deserted space of the past become more bustling and vibrant in the evening, and more meaningful as well.

During the interview with the group of people using this public space, young people said that they feel very comfortable and enjoy it with their friends. In addition, the area is quite large and convenient for skateboarding. Therefore, this public space is preferred by teenagers.
