Register Memorial service Lady Soames A service of thanksgiving for the life of Lady Soames, LG, DBE, took place at Westminster Abbey on November 20, 2014, at midday. The Very Rev Dr John Hall, Dean of Westminster, officiated, giving the Bidding and the Blessing. The Rev Christopher Stoltz, Minor Canon and Sacrist, led the prayers. The choir of Westminster Abbey, conducted by James O’Donnell, sang the introit Almighty and Everlasting God composed by Orlando Gibbons, Psalm 121 to a tune by Henry Walford Davies, and the anthem Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. The organ was played by Mr Daniel Cook and Mr Martin Ford. Trumpeters from the Household Cavalry Band directed by Trumpet Major Tim West played during the service by kind permission of Major-General Edward SmythOsbourne, commanding the Household Division. The Orders of Lady Soames were processed through the church by Lt Arthur Soames and Miss Isabella Soames and presented to the Dean. The Rt Hon Sir Nicholas Soames read Romans 8 vs 31-39. Mrs Clementine Fraser read from A daughter’s tale: the memoir of Winston Churchill’s youngest child by Mary Soames. The Rt Hon Sir John Major read St John 14 vs 1-6. Sir Richard Eyre introduced and read from Racing Demon by David Hare. The address was given by the Hon William Shawcross. Prayers were devised and led by the Rev Christopher Stoltz, with assistance from the Rev Canon Roger Humphreys; Mrs Emily Nicholson; the Rev Canon Adrian Daffern; Miss Flora Soames; the Rev Canon Dr William Taylorand the Rev Canon Professor Vernon White. The Prince of Wales, representing the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, attended together with the Duchess of Cornwall and Princess Alexandra, the Hon Lady Ogilvy. The Lord Mayor of Westminster Locum Tenens and the Ambassador of France attended. Buckingham Palace 20th November, 2014 The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh this morning arrived at Elgin Railway Station and were received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Moray (Lieutenant Colonel Grenville Johnston). Her Majesty and His Royal Highness drove to Royal Air Force Lossiemouth and were received by Major General the Hon. Seymour Monro (Deputy Lieutenant of Moray), the Station Commander (Group Captain Mark Chappell) and Wing Commander Chantal Baker (Commanding Officer Base Support Wing). The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were received with a Royal Salute and inspected the Guard of Honour. Her Majesty and His Royal Highness viewed Typhoon aircraft and met on-duty personnel before attending a Reception for Service personnel and their families in the Officers’ Mess. The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh subsequently witnessed a fly-past by a Tornado and two Typhoon aircraft. Her Majesty, Colonel-in-Chief, Corps of Royal Engineers, and His Royal Highness this afternoon visited 39 Engineer Regiment at Kinloss Barracks, Forres, and were received by Mr James Royan (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Moray) and the Commanding Officer (Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Marsden). The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh inspected a Guard of Honour. Her Majesty and His Royal Highness met families and soldiers and were entertained to Luncheon by the Commanding Officer.
