IMP ACT REPORT
RADICALLY
GENEROUS
L E A D E R S HIMP IP A LETTER FROM OUR
ACT
In 2018, Church Project celebrated its 8th year as a church. What started as a small band of people wanting to “rethink church,” has grown into a large community that is making a large impact. Since day one, we have committed to give away exponentially more than the average church while operating with simplicity for the sake of generosity. The purpose of this Impact Report is to show you, Church Project, the impact that has been made through your generosity. Our giving is a joyful act of worship, not a stressful obligation. From the beginning of CP, we have said that we believe the church can be the most powerful influence of love and change on the planet. We want to change the way people see Christ, Christians, and the Church, and that means changing the way people give. We have been, and want to continue to be a RADICALLY GENEROUS church.
This Impact Report will give you a further glimpse into how you can play your part in the great things Church Project is currently doing and what we dream of doing in the future. As we enter into a Season of Giving, we will be focusing on spending less, and giving more. We invite you to share in this season with us by joining the generosity. It is a joy to live out this thing called “church” together with you.
GREAT DAYS HAVE HAPPENED. GREATER DAYS ARE AHEAD.

SEASON OF GIVING /// ABOVE AND BEYOND People spend more money during Thanksgiving & Christmas than any other time of the year. From standing in lines on Black Friday to covering our homes in synchronized lights, we often find ourselves thinking less about what we’ve been given and more about what we think we need. As a RADICALLY GENEROUS church, we want to challenge you to rethink this holiday season, and join us as we, together as a church, spend less and give more. Go above and beyond your normal giving with us, and help us complete important initiatives that will impact our church, our community, and our world.

INITIATIVE #1
REACH OUR
GOALS
Church Project has always been radically generous. Our practice of simplicity for the sake of generosity means that we strive to not spend money on things that don’t matter. We operate with a significantly smaller staff size compared to other churches our size. We empower house church pastors to lead throughout our community so that the work of the church is not confined to the walls of an office. We spend less on production and events so that we can give more outside of our walls. Angel Reach works with youth who have aged out of the foster care system and homeless teens. Many are lost, forced to survive on their own, alone and with no place to live. As a CP ministry partner, Angel Reach relies on our financial support to do this difficult work for these children & youth.
Church Project partners with over 25 local and global ministry partners. Each partnership is a beautiful picture of the church coming alongside those who are
most passionate about the most pressing causes and issues in our city and in our world. As a church, we truly lock arms with these ministries by supporting them financially and by giving our time and efforts through volunteering. Many of these ministries depend on the financial support of Church Project in order to continue doing what they’ve been called to do. For many of these world changers, this is their full-time job, and they’ve given their lives to helping solve many of the problems that no one else will. At the end of the year, it is vital that CP continues to be radically generous so that we can reach our goals to our incredible ministry partners.
Houston Welcome Refugees mobilizes our city to welcome refugees with compassion, hope and honor as they resettle and start a new life in Houston. Our partnership with HWR helps ease the resettlement process for refugees coming to Houston and fosters hope amidst crisis.

BUILD 2019 OPERATING RESERVE
God is doing great things in our church, and we want to be prepared for the future. Each Sunday, more and more new faces walk through our doors. Every week, true community is happening in living rooms across our city. We’ve seen exponential growth in projectKids this year as we took nearly 300 kids & leaders to camp and over 600 at kidWEEK. ProjectStudents also had record camp attendance, and has its biggest class of junior high students ever this year. We see God’s faithfulness in the now, and want to be good stewards of what’s next. As we’ve sought to fearlessly and faithfully obey God in the area of generosity, we’ve never built a large reserve. When Jesus taught us to pray, he encouraged us to ask for our daily bread not a year’s worth of bread! We will continue to steward what God provides by not hoarding or removing our need to continually trust in his provision. Our target 2019 operating reserve is the equivalent of less than 3 weeks operating budget which our board believes to be prudent but in keeping with our desire to be radically generous and fearlessly dependent on God’s provision. Your generosity in this initiative will help us plan for next year as we continue our ongoing pursuit of becoming who God intended us and church to be.

A HOME
TO A FAMILY IN NEED
Early morning on Friday, May 12, 2017, the home of Pastor Bobby Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Carrie Johnson, was one of three homes ravaged by fire. The home of family member Esther Johnson was also destroyed. Bobby and Carrie Johnson shared their home with their son, Jarvis Johnson, daughter, April Johnson, and April’s four children. Despite the valiant efforts of first responders, family and neighbors to rescue them, three of the Mitchell children – Terrance “TJ” (13), Kaila (6) and Kyle (5) – who were sleeping on the second floor, perished in the fire. Their brother Adrian survived. Four of the remaining family members sustained injuries while trying to rescue the children and were hospitalized.
The Mitchell children, Kaila, 6, clockwise from left, Adrian, 10, Terrance “TJ,” 13, and Kyle, 5. All the children except Adrian died in the fire. Adrian was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
This good family is devastated by the loss of these children that they loved. Their loss is compounded by the absolute lack of resources to recover from this tragedy and move forward with their lives. The Johnson Family needs our help during this Season of Giving. Depending upon the amount raised, we hope to either pay rent for a year, give a down payment for a home, or even provide an entirely new home for this family.

LAUNCH A MISSION HOUSE
IN HAITI
Haiti is the first international ministry that Church Project began partnering with. What began very small and very slowly has continued to increase in impact. Though much international awareness is focused on the southern and western part of Haiti- those areas especially affected by earthquakes- the northern part of Haiti is more overlooked. This is the part of Haiti that Church Project has remained focused on, and is the place where we will continue our work. The holistic goal of Church Project is to adopt a village, provide a building that will house a school, a church, will be a strong shelter during storms, and will be a community center available for weddings and funerals and events in the community.
Shelda Similien, who ran out of her home before it collapsed when a magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit the night before, waits to be treated at a local hospital in Gros Morne, Haiti. Similien's five-year-old son died when he became buried by the rubble of the collapsed home.
Presently, Church Project has relationships with dozens of pastors, and specifically has seven churches that identify as Church Projects. In several of these villages, we are providing education and teacher salaries, feeding children every day, as well as providing salary and oversight for the pastor.
One prohibitive item has been housing for groups. As well as providing lodging for Church Project missionaries, the potential of an adequate mission house to generate income through hosting other mission groups from around the world has yet to be available. As we intend to continually increase our influence in northern Haiti, a dedicated mission house will provide housing for Church Project long-term and short-term missionaries, as well as generate income through the hosting outside mission groups that will supplement the work of Church Project in Haiti.
