Why do you live in the Lubbock area? What do you like most about it? We love the community and the people. Pam and I met here while attending Texas Tech, moved to Amarillo with a job opportunity, moved back here again, moved all over Texas with my work, and moved back here again. So it is obvious, this is where we belong. We have loved raising our children here and feel very blessed to call Lubbock home!

What is your specialty? I love pretty much everything about working with sellers and buyers. I especially love working with firsttime buyers, because buying their first home will be one of the biggest financial decisions a person will make.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working? Hanging out with my family. Pam and I have been married for almost 24 years and we have four great children – Tyler (20), Tara (18), Trevor (16), and Todd (15). We love sports, especially football and baseball, and go to a lot of our children’s ball games and activities. How long have you worked in real estate? 13 years What did you do before that? Hospital administration

BEST!

What do you see in the future for real estate sales? We are blessed to live in Lubbock, where historically, we have had a very stable market, with steady appreciation. Even though our market has not been quite as strong recently, I think our property values will continue to see steady growth. What local organizations and charities are you involved in? Lubbock Association of REALTORS, Texas Association of REALTORS (Political Action Committee Trustee), St. Elizabeth’s University Parish, Frenship Football Boosters, American Cancer Society, United Way

Why should someone choose you as their real estate agent? My team’s Mission Statement is: With integrity, knowledge, and technology, the Tony Lloyd Team is dedicated to outstanding customer service, community involvement and life long relationships. If we are fulfilling our mission, I think our clients will have a wonderful experience. What is the most gratifying/challenging aspect of what you do? The PEOPLE – helping clients sell or buy their home provides for a new challenge and adventure everyday. Getting to know my clients so well and working together through the entire home selling/buying process, from the first time we meet until we close, is the most gratifying

trust to be diligent in doing everything within their power to get your home sold or to help you buy the right new home. Also, listen to your REALTOR and embrace their advice. They are the professionals, and they have your best interest at heart.

What is the most interesting place you have ever been? We try to take a trip with our extended family every couple of years and have been able to go on some great family vacations – St. Thomas and the US Virgin Islands, the National Football Hall of Fame, several MLB ballparks, the Henry Ford Museum, and many national parks such as the Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Mt. Rushmore, and Yellowstone. Also, through some of my work with the REALTOR Association, I have been able to visit Austin and Washington, DC and work with our legislators to protect private property rights.

West Texas Home Builders Association – Lubbock Homes for Heroes

Lubbock Homes for Heroes Dedication Ceremony

Black Yellow Magenta Cyan

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2012 A3

Parade Home for Local Hero Louis Flores The West Texas Home Builders Association proudly welcomed former Surgeon General of the US Army and Chief of Urological Surgery at TTUHSC Dr. Bernard Mittemeyer as the keynote speaker for the dedication ceremony of the Parade of Homes house being built and donated to local war hero, Specialist Louis Flores, and his family. The dedication ceremony, held at the building site (6405 77th St. in the Bacon Crest subdivision), was on Feb. 1. Specialist Flores, a Plainview native, was deployed to Northern Iraq where he served as a medic. Having been involved in multiple IED explosions, Louis always ran to the aid of a fellow soldier or helped innocent civilians when a suicide bomber had just blown himself up in a public market. The trauma and explosions were causing Flores to slowly and silently go to a very dark place. Coming home proved difficult as well. He returned to Texas Tech to continue his studies only to find himself distracted and unable to make the grades. Having undergone screening for TBI (traumatic brain injury) and having tested positive for a moderate brain injury, Flores and his bride of 12 years began to understand how that injury contributed to his maladjustment and cognitive struggles. He credits his wife, Olga, for providing the strength and courage to pull both of them through the hard times. As part of the dedication ceremony a flag flown over the US Capitol by Congressman Randy Neugebauer on 9/11/11 was presented to Flores. All three area State Representatives – John Frullo, Jim Landtroop and Charles Perry – planned to present a resolution honoring the Flores family. The new home is being built and donated by local trades and subcontractors of the West Texas Home Builders Association in partnership with Texas Tech Athletics. The Lubbock home will be on display for all area residents to see as part of this year’s Parade of Homes in June.

Local Real Estate News – Lubbock Association of Realtors

Play it safe when selling in your hand, and do not lead visitors into rooms where they can block you from exiting. In addition, don’t discuss your schedule with them other than setting an appointment to see the home. Always trust your instincts. If you think you might be in danger, take steps to get to safety.

While your home is on the market, you’re probably focused on finding the right buyer and getting the highest possible sales price. Unfortunately, you should also keep your personal safety in mind. While crimes at properties for sale are rare, they do LOPEZ occur. Always Protect Yourself If you’re selling your home without a real estate agent, please take extra precautions to protect yourself because you will be allowing strangers into your home. Have another person with you when you show your property to avoid being alone with a visitor. Request an ID from prospective buyers before you invite them in and let them know this is for security purposes. You might even call someone to pass along the ID information and then call them at a designated time after the showing to let them know everything is okay. Carry your cell phone

Don’t Welcome Unexpected “Buyers” A person who knocks on your door and says he saw the “for sale” sign in your yard probably is a legitimate, interested buyer, but you can’t know for sure. Better to play it safe and not invite him into your home just because he’s standing on the porch. Set up an appointment for a time that works for you. If you’re working with an agent, refer that buyer to him and ask the visitor to make an appointment to see the home. Even if your agent puts a lockbox on your home, you can request that your home be shown only by appointment so you are prepared. Lock ‘Em Up If you have expensive jewelry, small electronics, lots of cash, or other valuable, portable items in your home, secure them or temporarily move them to another location — perhaps a safe deposit box or the home of a family

member or good friend (make sure you know what your insurance policy will cover with these valuables off-site). Also, consider putting prescription drugs somewhere other than your medicine cabinet. Criminals have been known to visit open houses and view homes for the sole purpose of stealing common but expensive prescription medications. Let an Expert Handle It You can follow these suggestions to protect your safety and the safety of your family when selling your home, or better yet, work with a Realtor. Your Realtor will handle arranging viewing appointments around your schedule, show your home at its fullest potential and work with a team of professionals to help you have a successful selling experience. Plus, you’ll have peace of mind in knowing that prospective buyers viewing your home are legitimate buyers who have been vetted as financially qualified and ready to buy. Of course, your Realtor also brings the expertise needed to maximize your selling price and terms and will help you meet your other goals in selling your home. For more information about selling, I encourage you to visit LubbockRealtors.com and TexasRealEstate.com.

Fail-proof gardening tips from the pros (ARA) – With so many plant choices, picking the perfect plants that will thrive in your garden can seem overwhelming – even for experienced gardeners. Rather than randomly buying plants that are attractive in the displays and hoping they’ll live once you get them home, there’s a smarter way to shop. Check out these tips from the experts to make plant selection easy, fail-proof and fun: Get Inspired. Look through garden magazines and visit online for ideas on what’s new and tried-and-true. Talk to your friends and neighbors for suggestions. Tip: Use the new garden website, BloomIQ.com, which inspires and takes the guesswork out of planning and plant selection. Its garden design suggestions and planting combinations will match your color preferences, personal style and growing conditions. With one click in the comfort of your own home, you can browse beautiful images, plant descriptions and info to help you choose the right plants for your needs. Plus, there are tips for designing gardens, creating container gardens, using indoor plants and learning which plants work well together – all on one easy-to-use site.

Sketch A Garden Plan. Look at your home’s architectural features and landscaping. “Start with the ‘bones’ of your home and landscape - they’ll make your yard look good all year long,” says Justin Hancock, senior garden editor at BHG.com, the Better Homes and Gardens online magazine. What kind of garden do you want – formal or informal? Decide if you want edibles, annuals or perennials in a garden or containers filled with herbs, veggies and perennials. And don’t forget the indoors. Include houseplants to change the look of your home; it’s easy and economical. Tip: Sketch what you want to plant – and where. “No matter what you want to grow, gardening success starts with a good design plan,” says Bobbie Schwartz, president of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (apld.org). “Photograph your home and landscape, print out the photos, lay tracing paper on top and then sketch out your ideas.” Schwartz suggests not worrying about specific plant varieties. “You can fill in those later. Begin by deciding on features such as shape, color, and height texture and bloom time.” After you have a general idea what you want, you can start

are a better choice.” Tip: Educate yourself on exactly what works best in your garden before you go shopping. Learn the plant’s water, sun and care requirements. Is it deerproof, drought tolerant, or low maintenance? Answering these questions can be a garden saver.

Remodeling Market Index rises to five-year high Remodeling sentiment rose to the highest level in five years, according to the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Remodeling Market Index (RMI) for the fourth quarter of 2011. The RMI increased to 46.6 in the fourth quarter from 41.7 in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the RMI component measuring current market conditions rose to 48.4 from 43.0 in the previous quarter. The RMI component measuring

future indicators of remodeling business was also positive, increasing to 44.8 from 40.4 in the previous quarter. An RMI below 50 indicates that more remodelers report market activity is lower (compared to the prior quarter) than report it is higher. The overall RMI averages ratings of current remodeling activity with indicators of future activity. “As more consumers remain in their homes rather than move in

this economy, remodelers benefited from a gradual increase in home improvement activity, taking us to a five-year high,” said NAHB Remodelers Chairman Bob Peterson. “2011 ended on a strong note for the remodeling industry.” Current market conditions improved significantly in all four regions over the third quarter of 2011. The RMI reported higher market activity in two important categories: major additions 52.3 (from 45.2) and minor additions

50.1 (from 45.7). Future indicators in each region also experienced gains from the previous quarter. Two of the indices reported a level over 50: calls for bids at 50.7 (from 45.4) and appointments for proposals at 50.1 (from 43.3), while work committed for the next three months only rose to 31.5 (from 29.9). “With several key components above 50, the latest RMI provides reason for guarded optimism going forward,” said NAHB Chief

Economist David Crowe. “The residential remodeling market has been improving gradually, mirroring the trend in other segments of the housing market. Stringent lending requirements and economic uncertainty continue to be a drag on demand, but we expect a modest growth in remodeling activity to continue throughout 2012.” For more information about remodeling, visit www.nahb.org/ remodel.
