EDUCATION: CREATING SOLUTIONS
Education is the most influential factor in ensuring that children grow up to do as well as or better than their parents. Our goal is to ensure that Central Florida is in line with or exceeding national performance and graduation levels. Through a cradle-to-career model, we will generate continuous growth and academic success, helping students to achieve significant milestones like kindergarten readiness, appropriate reading levels and completion of high school. By addressing barriers to student success, like absenteeism, poor performance and behaviorial issues, we are taking steps for a stronger community.
Achieving Full Potential
Comprehensive Change By focusing on prevention instead of intervention, Heart of Florida United Way believes it can change the future for generations of families. We impact the community by focusing on the building blocks of a good life: • • • •
Quality Education Financial Stability Good Health Access to permanent housing and food
By addressing the holistic needs of the individual, we are able to create a sustainable shift in their situation that helps them achieve their full potential.

INCOME:
IMPROVING FINANCIAL STABILITY Financial stability gives people the opportunity to thrive. Reliable income, stable employment, opportunities for mobility and a strong support system are essential for their well-being. Beyond the usual depictions of poverty, Florida has a growing ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population. These households, which make up 1 in 3 of our households in Central Florida, work hard to be above the poverty level but still cannot afford essentials like transportation, healthcare, or housing.
ALICE
By focusing on the building blocks of financial stability, we can help these families improve their stability and succeed.

BASIC NEEDS: OUT OF REACH FOR MANY POVERTY

In Central Florida, nearly 15% of the population lives in poverty and another 30% are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE). Among them are society’s most vulnerable: infants, children, seniors and the disabled. These people are unable to afford basic needs like housing, healthcare, food, childcare and transportation. The effects of long-term poverty limit progress in other areas like education, healthcare and public safety – impacting the prosperity of the community as a whole.
