Academic Year Programme LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE UK FOR INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS FROM 11 YEARS UP TO 18 YEARS FOR ACADEMIC YEAR – SEPTEMBER-JULY

London - Chalfont Campus

Ardmore are delighted to offer students the opportunity to study within one of the best school systems in the world. This programme offers an academic year at a British state school – at a choice of locations throughout the UK. This programme provides an affordable alternative to studying at an independent UK school – but at up to two-thirds of the cost compared to a private school! Many academic year students use their stay in Britain as a “springboard” to their future educational and career aspirations – i.e. studying at a UK or international university where fluent English is a requirement, or with a view to being able to work anywhere in the world where they need an advanced level and understanding of English. Requirements of the programme: Students must be from European Economic Area (EEA) IELTS minimum level 5.5 - however each school may have different requirements and students will be advised of this on discussion with the school Minimum age is 11 years and maximum age is 18 years Academic year starts in September and ends in late July All students are required to complete a detailed application form – with educational, medical, family and personal history, as well as academic achievements. A school is then chosen to be contacted by Ardmore, according to the student’s requirements.

Homestay Programme

Why not consider an Ardmore Summer Course in July or August to prepare the student and give them added confidence to start the Academic Year?

LOCATION OF SCHOOLS Ardmore have chosen the locations of their partner schools with great care to ensure the highest quality welfare support by our most experienced local organisers, offering 24 hour assistance to students, coupled with the quality of the schools where the students will study. All schools selected by Ardmore for this programme are inspected and graded either 1 (“outstanding”) or 2 (“good”) by Ofsted which is the UK government office for standards in education, children’s services and skills. http://www.ofsted.gov.uk Schools are located in towns and suburbs – away from the hustle and bustle of large cities – but at the same time, offering students the opportunity to explore the local area easily, with the excellent transport links these towns offer.

HOST FAMILY ACCOMMODATION Students will be accommodated at DBS (Police) checked, carefully selected host families for the duration of each term, returning to their home country during the half term (usually 1 week in both February and May). Families live within close proximity to the school (either within walking distance or a short bus ride away). Students will be provided with half board accommodation (with a lunch allowance given each day for hot/cold lunch at school) during weekdays and full board at the weekend.

TUITION FEES/ MATERIALS AND SCHOOL UNIFORM All tuition fees, folders, exercise and text books are included in the price. Students will be expected to wear the school uniform (up to 6th Form) and Ardmore will be able to assist students in purchasing this before arrival.

SUPPORT BY LOCAL ORGANISER/ GUARDIAN AND ARDMORE HEAD OFFICE Students will be under the care of Ardmore’s Local Organisers/Guardians who usually live no more than 30-45 minutes from the student and their school. In addition, Ardmore offers 24 hour, 7 day a week support by Head office. The Local organisers will provide reports during the year to advise of the student’s progress, as well as assisting in host family/ accommodation matters and arranging transfers on arrival and departure. Please contact us for more detailed information about the prices and services Ardmore will provide on this programme.

Students - Ardmore lesson

Our English language courses are designed to help students not only increase their knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary, but also their confidence in using English. During their time at Ardmore we help students improve their communication skills. Therefore lessons include plenty of opportunities for students to use the language. Classroom activities include role-play, pair-work, group-work, group projects, surveys, questionnaires and games.

Each workbook contains the same topics and all students in each of the six levels study the same topic each day. Topics have been designed to be interesting and relevant to our Young Learners and every day they study something new. Through studying the same topics, different levels and groups continue talking about what they have learned outside of the classroom and they can be linked to activities. All levels cover the following 13 topics:

All our friendly teachers work very hard to provide interesting and fun language lessons and they are always happy to help and support our students.

Our experienced EFL teachers provide an extra 12 hours of English lessons per week to maximise and boost English learning. Specific topics such as Academic or Business English can be requested. These lessons will be topic-related and will focus on using authentic materials for listening, reading, writing and speaking assignments. Homework may be given. Available on request. Supplementary cost per student.

Our experienced EFL teachers test students, place them into the appropriate level and provide an extra five hours of intensive speaking lessons per week. Students are fully supported and prepared for the speaking tests, which are conducted by an external Trinity examiner. Available at all centres. Supplementary cost per student.

Full School Integration LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE UK FOR INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS FROM 11 YEARS UP TO 18 YEARS Available all year in term time – UP TO THE 3rd WEEK IN JULY

London - Chalfont Campus

This programme is perfect for students who want to live the life of a British teenager for a short period. For group leaders and parents, this is an ideal opportunity for pupils/children to improve their English and understand the UK state school system. Students will “buddy” up with British teenagers and follow exactly the same curriculum for the whole school day, for a period of 1 – 7 weeks. They will participate in classes with their British counterparts, follow all the lessons in English as well as enjoying the opportunity to chat with them in a more relaxed setting at lunchtime. Group leaders accompanying the students are welcome to sit in on the classes too. Why not book a Full School Integration just before the group takes part in an Ardmore Summer/Easter course? It’s a great way to encourage language learning and give the students added confidence before they start their course. The programme offers a choice of accommodation with either carefully selected host families or in hotels located close to the school. We have several locations where we can offer this programme and we will advise you of the possible availability for the dates you have chosen. A TYPICAL SCHOOL DAY Many schools start the day with an “Assembly” i.e. where the whole school meets together in the hall with the teachers. Important announcements are made during this first 30-45 minutes of the school day. Students will then be divided into smaller numbers and will join their English “buddies” in classes, taking part in everyday school life. e.g. Geography, English, History lessons, etc. This could involve playing sports, studying IT, learning a Shakespeare play or discovering British cookery! Lunch service usually starts at midday. Students will receive a lunch allowance to choose a hot or cold meal according to their wishes. Afternoon school follows the same pattern as the morning and when the final bell sounds, students will return to their host families or hotel. Many British students wear “school uniform” and international groups would be expected to dress smartly. A school jumper/fleece is included in the programme price. Full information will be provided before arrival so that the group has enough time to prepare for their visit. The minimum level of English for this programme is IELTS 5.5 (Intermediate). Price includes: Accommodation (in host family or hotel) Lunch allowance for midday meal at school Full School Integration in British state school – 5 days per week School sweater or fleece 24 hour support by Ardmore Head office

Enjoy time with host family

Ardmore Golf Academy Students at a driving range

INTRODUCTION We are delighted to introduce the Ardmore Golf Academy North at Myerscough College and the Ardmore Golf Academy South at University of Bath. The history of golf dates back to 1457 when King James II of Scotland banned the practice of golf. The four major events in professional golf are the British Open, The Masters, the US Open and the PGA Championships. No player has even won all four majors in the same year! Golf is a game of skill and tactics. Our Golf Academies help students to perfect their swing, techniques and overall game play with all lessons being coached in English. The Ardmore Golf Academy offers golf loving students the opportunity to have professional coaching in English. Special emphasis is placed on techniques and skills. The students will have the opportunity to play on a 9 or 18 hole course at least once per week during the course. We have fantastic facilities at our specialist golf centres. Myerscough College has its own 9 hole golf course with an indoor state of the art golf academy and putting greens. University of Bath has driving ranges and fantastic golf courses nearby. We are able to cater for all abilities from complete beginners to players with golf handicaps.
