SPRING
FALL
Buds and blossoms start appearing on Vancouver trees as early as February. Meanwhile on the mountains, the ski season often lasts until well into April. Vancouver has the earliest growing season in Canada, but spring is often still rainy and cool, so make sure to keep your warm clothes and umbrella handy this time of year.
Vancouver often stays sunny and comfortable well into October, although temperatures do start to cool off, so when September hits, you can put your bathing suit away. In mid-late October, expect Vancouver’s famous rains to start feeding our lush and beautiful rainforests. Make sure you have warm clothes to bundle up, and don’t forget your umbrella!
SUMMER In summer, students can enjoy lounging on Vancouver’s many beaches, try stand-up paddleboarding in English Bay (the latest Vancouver craze), check out the Fireworks Competition, hike the local mountains or enjoy the city’s many free summer festivals, Canada Day celebrations, and more. Summers in Vancouver are comfortable. Bring a bathing suit, but make sure to have a warm sweater and jacket for the cool coastal evenings.

FALL
In Toronto’s spring, the flowers start to bloom and temperatures start to warm up, although the weather can still be unpredictable, so be prepared with warm layers. If you want to stay indoors, spring is a good time to go shopping in Toronto’s PATH, an underground shopping complex with around 1,200 stores. It’s also a great time to take in some culture by visiting the many art galleries and museums around the city, or catching a film at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival. For sports fans, the Toronto Blue Jays start their season in April, so make sure to catch a baseball game.
In Fall, temperatures in Toronto start to hit a more comfortable level before the snow starts in November or December. Enjoy a walk in the city’s outdoors and take in the amazing fall colours, or catch an international film, and spot some of your favourite movie stars at TIFF, the Toronto International Film Festival that takes place in mid-September. Weather in the fall can be a little bit unpredictable, so come prepared with some warm layers.
SUMMER Summer in Toronto is hot! It’s the perfect time to enjoy the beach, try paddling a voyageur canoe, or head to the water park at Canada’s Wonderland to stay cool. Summer is also a good time to explore some of Ontario’s incredible outdoor landscapes like Algonquin Park or Niagara Falls. In the city, there are street festivals, celebrations and outdoor concerts that go late into the night. Don’t miss the Toronto Jazz Festival in June, and Caribana in July, a week-long celebration of Caribbean culture with non-stop music and dancing.

SPRING
FALL
Spring brings warmer temperatures and the city is in bloom by April. Spring is still a great time to ski, snowboard or toboggan, though, because the snow will stay on the mountains until well into April and sometimes even as late as May! March to April is also the high season for visiting a “cabane a sucre” or Sugar Shack. Discover how maple syrup is made and enjoy traditional Québécois food, music and dance. In late March, get a taste of this chic city’s “haute couture” at Montréal fashion week—for students studying French, this is the perfect time to sign up for ILSC’s “Le français par la mode et le design” class (French through Fashion and Design). Spring starts off cold, and warms up quickly, so be prepared for any kind of weather.
In fall, the city comes alive with colour as the foliage changes from green to stunning yellow, gold and red. Fall is the perfect time to enjoy a leisurely walk, or a bike ride through the city’s parks and local markets. Dip into the potent night life of Montréal’s café society, clubs, theatres and music venues that fill the vibrant downtown streets. In October, hockey season starts, so make sure to catch a Montréal Canadiens game—Quebecers are passionate about their NHL team whose popular nickname, “the Habs” is short for “Les Habitants,” the French settlers who originally farmed the land along the St. Lawrence River. From September to October, temperatures are still comfortable, but from November to December, you’ll definitely need a few warm layers.
SUMMER
WINTER
Summer is full of music, film, arts, cultural and sports festivals. Enjoy the island heat in Parc Jean-Drapeau, explore the Lachine Canal on bicycle or hike in the Laurentians. In late June to early July, the famous Festival International de Jazz de Montréal enlivens the city with performances by amazing musicians from around the world, and many of the music events are free! Then in July, check out the Circus Arts Festival—the famous Cirque du Soleil was started in Montréal, so this festival is sure to amaze and astound. The city’s balmy comfortable summer temperatures are best enjoyed outdoors, and Montréal offers everything under the sun to keep you occupied in your free time.
Winter offers endless choices for outdoor activities, from snowboarding at Mont Tremblant to snowshoeing, tobogganing or even dog-sledding at Parc Jean-Drapeau during the Fete des neiges de Montréal (Festival of Snow). Lace up your skates and glide around with friends at Beaver Pond on Mount Royal, or indoors at the Atrium. If you want to warm up inside, do some shopping in Montréal’s vast underground pedestrian network of department stores and shopping centres. Of course, Montréal’s energetic nightlife can be enjoyed any time of the year. Bring warm clothes and be prepared for the cold, but don’t let it dampen your spirits, Montréal stays lively no matter what the season!

SPRING
FALL
From March to May, San Francisco is often dryer, and warmer than the rest of the country. Spring brings mild weather, and everything comes into bloom. Spring is a great time to enjoy a picnic in Golden Gate Park with friends, or to check out the Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown. Students can also catch a movie at the San Francisco International Film Festival, or take a boat over to the former fishing village of Sausalito. Baseball season starts in spring, so sports fans can go take in a Giants game.
There is no better place to be in the fall than San Francisco. At this time of year, the leaves start to turn a rainbow of colours, but unlike the rest of the country, where the cool weather is starting to set in, San Francisco’s falls are usually balmy and bright. In the fall, you can still enjoy many outdoor festivals and activities. Students can go for a stroll around Fisherman’s Wharf, or take a tour of famous Alcatraz. Put your scariest face on for Halloween and Day of the Dead festivals in October.
SUMMER
WINTER
In summer, San Francisco’s famous fog rolls in, making the mornings a little hazy, but by midday the fog burns off, opening up clear blue sunny skies. Summer in eclectic San Francisco is abuzz with culture, and students can take in a myriad of music, crafts and art at the many street festivals that take place throughout the city, and the best part is that most of them are free! Summer is also a great time to explore some of the national parks outside the city. Hike the redwood forests of Muir Woods, or take a weekend trip to California wine country. Of course, there’s always the beach, and students can relax with friends on shore, or take a surf lesson and catch a wave.
San Francisco is famous for its year-round mild weather, and in general, you can enjoy most activities any time. However, winter does offer a few extra goodies. Students can escape up to famous Lake Tahoe to enjoy snow sports like tobogganing, snowboarding or skiing. For basketball fans, this is definitely a good season to check out the Golden State Warriors on the court. Make sure to check out the Chinese New Year celebrations—San Francisco has the largest Chinatown outside of Asia so it's sure to be big!

In India, the term “masala,” which means “mix,” is used to describe the spice mixtures that add such rich flavours to Indian cooking. The term could just as easily be used to describe New Delhi, India’s vibrant and bustling capital. New Delhi is a young metropolis, built upon the remnants of ancient cities. A fascinating mix of historical monuments and modern high-tech industry, colourful nightlife and fabulous shopping and dining options, New Delhi is a feast for the senses. It is also a convenient launching point for some of India’s best tourist destinations like the Taj Mahal, Rajasthan and the majestic Himalayan Hill Stations.

Holi, the Hindu “Festival of Colours” happens in midMarch, to celebrate the spring. During Holi, the locals take to the streets for wild celebration as they throw coloured powder at one another. Late spring and early summer are the best times to visit the Himalaya regions, and discover a bit of Tibetan culture.

Monsoon Monsoon, also called the “Rainy Season” is something unique to a few regions around the world. In July, after the dry heat of summer, temperatures start to drop and then the rain rolls in providing relief from the summer heat. India receives 80% of its yearly rainfall during this season, and although Delhi is typically drier than other parts of the country, you definitely need an umbrella. In July, students can see competitions, dancing, and more at the Mango Festival. Later in the month, the Naga Panchami festival offers a chance to see snake charmers around the city. And in August, don’t miss the Indian Independence day celebrations at New Delhi’s Red Fort.

days become warm, and the nights cool. This is a good time to get out and explore some of the region around New Delhi. October is also a month of festivals, and significant holidays. Gandhi Jayanthi celebrates the birth of Mohandas Gandhi, and Diwali, the festival of lights, illuminates the city at night. Many religious figures have their own festivals this month and are celebrated through song, dance and theatre.
Winter December to February can get cool in Delhi as the winds blow down from the Himalayas, and though the city never receives snow, a cool fog can roll in. Students can check out the Republic Day Parade in January to see enormous crowds, and if they want to shop or discover the variety of Indian culture, they should definitely plan to visit the Surajkund Crafts Mela, a two week arts and crafts fair that happens in February.

FALL
Spring is a comfortable time of year in Sydney, meaning it’s warm enough to get out on the beach and learn to surf, windsurf, or go on a harbor cruise, while also being cool enough to enjoy a good walking tour of the city to check out its many sights. There are also a few good events taking place during this season, including the Food Festival, and “Stereosonic,” an international music festival.
In fall, temperatures cool down a bit, similar to the spring, but you can enjoy the beach pretty much year-round. Aussie Rules Football season starts in fall, so check out this unique contact sport that was invented in this country. Other adventures include hiking in the Blue Mountains or checking out the Jenolan Caves. For a taste of culture, visit the Botanical Gardens for the Autumn Vibes festival, which includes music and dance performances from cultures around the world.

All students planning to study at ILSC–Australia will require an appropriate visa. The following is general information. Visa regulations are determined by the Immigration Department in Australia and are subject to change. Please verify visa information with the nearest Australian embassy or consulate.
Visitor Visa
Please refer to the following website to determine what type of visa you will need to study at ILSC–Australia: www.immi.gov.au/
Visitor Visa International students who wish to study in Canada for up to 6 months may need a Visitor’s Visa depending on the country for which they hold a passport. To see if this applies to you, please check the list of Countries and Territories Whose Citizens Require Visas in order to enter Canada as Visitors: www.cic.gc.ca/English/visit/visas.asp
Study Permit Students do not need a Study Permit for study programs that last 6 months or less. If you plan to study in Canada for longer than 6 months, you must obtain a Study Permit. These are available through your local Canadian visa office: www.cic.gc.ca/English/information/offices/ missions.asp Students may apply for a Study Permit even if they are going to study for 6 months or less. If students are coming for less than 6 months and are thinking of possibly extending their studies to more than 6 months, they should apply for a Study Permit in their home country. Students can extend their Study Permit from within Canada, but they cannot get a Study Permit from within Canada.
Work Permit For both paid (WEP) and unpaid (VIP) Internship Programs students must have a Study Permit and a Work Permit.
The visitor visa is a non-immigrant visa for foreign citizens desiring to enter the United States temporarily for business (B–1), or for pleasure or medical treatment (B–2). If you are entering the United States primarily for tourism, but want to take a short course of study of less than 18 hours per week (Full-Time or Semi Full-Time schedule at ILSC), you may be able to do so on a Visitor Visa. If your course of study is more than 18 hours a week, you will need a Student Visa.
Student Visa The F–1 student visa is a non-immigrant visa for foreign citizens whose primary purpose of entering the United States is to study. Students enrolling in the Full-Time Intensive schedule at ILSC must obtain an F–1 student visa. Students applying for an F–1 Student Visa need to obtain a SEVIS* generated I–20 form from ILSC. In order to receive an I–20 form, please follow the admission instructions in ILSC application checklist. The U.S. Department of State encourages students to apply for their visa as soon as they are prepared to do so to provide ample time for visa processing. First-time student visa applicants are, in most countries, required to appear for an in-person interview. However, each embassy and consulate sets its own interview policies and procedures regarding Student Visas. Students should consult Embassy web sites or call for specific application instructions.
students/students/chooser
Student Visa Students applying for a Student Visa must be enrolled for Full-Time study and submit an electronic confirmation of enrollment from the school, along with the appropriate visa paperwork. On approval from Australian immigration a Student Visa will be issued for the duration of your studies, and allows students to get permission to work 20 hours a week, with some restrictions.
Working Holiday Visa Students who apply for and receive a Working Holiday Visa can study for 4 months and can work full-time for a maximum of 6 months for one employer. Students on this visa are responsible for arranging their own heath and travel insurance.
Other visas There are other visas that may allow study options as part of their conditions. Please check with the immigration link above or with the closest embassy or consulate. However, students with focused long term study needs should come on a Student Visa.

*SEVIS is a system that maintains accurate and current information on non-immigrant students from the time a school issues an I–20 form for them. SEVIS enables schools to transmit mandatory information and event notifications via the internet to the Department of Homeland Security and Department of State throughout a student’s stay in the United States.
Tourist Visa Students who plan to study for less than 6* months will require a Tourist Visa. Tourist Visas are valid for single entry only and cannot be extended. Once you leave the country you must wait 2 months before you can reapply and you cannot extend your Tourist Visa in India or in a neighbouring country.
Study Permit Students who intend to study in India for more than 6 months will require a Study Permit. Study Permits allow multiple entries, and are issued for the duration of your study, as per your letter of acceptance. *The length of the Tourist Visa may vary depending on your country of origin. Please check with your local Indian embassy or consulate for current information and to apply for visas.
