Summer Teacher Residency Program

2019 Summer Teacher Residency Program Wednesday, June 19–Saturday, June 29 cia.edu/summer-residency

Imagine ten days, away from the classroom, away from the distractions of life, back in the studio making work.

Cleveland Institute of Art seeks to bring together a diverse group of individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to art making and inquiry. Our goal is to create a stimulating and rigorous environment for a period of concentrated artistic creation, interaction, and growth. You’ll join a select group of art educators from across the country as they create a new body of studio work with the goal to reinvigorate their teaching practice.

While on campus, teacher residents are provided individual studio spaces, art-making supplies, and access to the school’s state-of-the-art facilities. Residents work alongside other educators to develop a small body of work and reinvigorate your teaching practice, under close faculty guidance. A spirit of collaboration and communication allows for regular feedback and input from your residency cohort, guided by our faculty advisors.

Exclusive seminars at Cleveland museums will allow for professional development with an array of educational and cultural resources. The program will conclude in a final exhibition and reception, where each resident will be asked to include one to three pieces of work created during their stay.

“This residency provides you with the opportunity to nurture your own talents. Providing teachers with studio space, accommodations, and meals grants you the time to focus purely on the creative process and making art.

—Nora Workman Linden Hall School for Girls

The 2019 residency will be open to educators through two courses exploring the areas of: 2D Processes, including drawing, painting, and printmaking Contemporary Craft, including ceramics, glass, and jewelry and metals.
