Circulation The circulation of this floating box is an carved out ramp, which wrap around the box. This ramp will be painted white to contrast with the black exterior of the box. The color contract would help visitors find their way into the floating space. At night time, LED panel light will evenly light up the ramp, which could also become a way finding tool for people to use without reading any directions or signs. While walking on the ramp, visitors could also enjoy the gallery space along the ramp. ENTRANCE

Material Inspirations The interior of this flowing space is studio space for public rental and privately use . Clean white space could be easily used for photographers to shoot basically any thing. Space could be divide to many small studio space because the track lighting system is all over the space. There are also natural lighting comes in during certain time of the day. Glass was also use at the side of the studio, where people can not accupy because of the passageway is below or above. These space became storage or display space for more photographers to use.

Material Inspirations The material choice for this project was simply based on the flowing cube concept. The concrete wall is for the gallery space to display large work. The black painted wall is the shell of the flowing photographic studio. The color and material of this flowing space made itself heavy and yet it’s flowing. The long continuous passageway, which goes up to the top floor of this flowing space used a contract color of black. The contracted color would easily direct people to find their way to the top floors. The paneled light would goes along with the passageway and light it up evenly during night time.

Spring 2014

My design is to create private spaces in public spaces, which helps passengers to focus on their personal activities such as reading and working. Dividing spaces into smaller parts without isolating them creates a sense of privacy in public transportation. Large spaces like the ferry have individual work and relaxing views to the whole interior of the ferry and exterior of the ferry.

The purpose of this design is to help people, who travels from their home to work , to save their time on the ferry. The space that I designed could provide them with a better working environment, so that they could have more confertable space to work and not wasting time while they commute.

Material Inspirations

The materials of this project are mostly environment-friendly. The interior concept of this project is to make a habitable working environment for people who lives in the city and lack of in this space would pull people close to nature. Indoor garden would provide fresh air. Glass cylinder wall keeps people connected with the whole environment and the outside of the ferry daylight into the ferry, so that small LED spot light would be enough for ferry. Do to the high usage of the furniture in SF ferry, the material of these furniture should be easy to clean and furniture should be nature color that could integrate with the interior concept.

To enhance the working environment, modern design of workspace is breaking away from the traditional cubicles and uorescent lighting to a more open, exible and natural lighting environment. Modern design of workspaces usually would incorporate many plants to mimic nature. However, the experiences with those plants are still not as pleasant as the exterior parks and gardens. This makes people still want to escape the space and go outside to enjoy the sunlight and nature.Taking in this problem, our team focused on not just bring the natural light and plants inside the workspace, but to bring the experiences that people have in the nature into this space for them to enjoy working in this environment. We brought an exterior garden into the center of the space as a resting area for everyone share and enjoy. The open ceiling of this garden will truly makes people experience the nature. Working area is surrounding the garden, so that people who are tired of working could have the quick access into the nature.

Concept Development We introduced a new way of dividing the space of an open office and at the same time mimicking the experiences of an exterior environment. This idea came from the topography of the hill, which use different level of the floor to divide the purpose of the space. This also resolved the problem of privacy. Higher level have more privacy because it is hard for lower level to see the action on a higher level, therefore, we put conference room on high levels. Lower level is easy to see by everyone, therefore, it is a perfect space for workspace, lunch room, collaboration and resting area. Like the mountain road, there is a middle level connects and give easy access every level in the workspace. These levels could also provide a good vision of the space and an easy way to communicate with people across the room.

Material Inspirations The material concept of this project should mimic the nature. Stone textured floor with wood ceiling are good samples of this idea. LED panel brings out event light to the interior .Concrete walls are used on two side of the space to give a sense of enclosure, while the front and back are glass walls.

Spring 2015 The purose of this education building is to integrate the public inton the google campus, and allow the google campu oďŹƒces. My project uses the educational building as a threshold to engage the green loop, the main circulation loop in c ees. Library and computer labs are also provided for people to use. There will also be two large technology lab, wh gallery that is free access for the public

us to give back to the community. The site of my project is in the charleston south, which mostly used for google ampus, with the google oďŹƒces. This shared building provides classes and workshops for the public and google employhich is for google employees to use and create their own technology inventions. Their inventions will display in the

By crossing the smaller building that located right next to the green loop, into a more private building that is next to the google office, which creates a threshold between the public and the google. The crossing point will become a main circulation in the building. Other smaller circulation will spread out from this crossing point and help people to find their destination.

TEMPORARY BUNGEE CORD SEATINGS/TABLES

The structure and design of the building came from my research of a flower pod called, Banksia. This pod has a very unique and strong structure which shaped much like a sea shell and only opens by exposure of fire. The pod stacked itself with many other pods within a limited space. The motion of opening and closing of this pod creates a secondary space in between each other. This flexible space will appear and connect two space together to create a bigger space during busy hours. The space expands offering this flexibility, when the ceiling is coming down. It will pull down the bungee cords that is connecting to the floor above.

These temporary furniture comes from my research of earthquake signal, P waves, S waves, and Surface waves. During the normal time earth is a grid and when the earthquake happens, this grid will respond to the external force and shaped itself along the shake. I used bungee cords to create grid in between the oor and the ceiling. A secondary support will act like the earthquake to shape those bungee cords. Track system, which inbuilted in the structure, will slide metal bars to operate the bungee cords to become a bench and table for temporary use. The tensions and elastic force of the bungee cords will provide a soft seating and hard surface to satisfy the needs of comfort.

Material Inspirations The ceiling material and floor in my project, which is inspired by the pod, Banksia. Therefore, same material is used in the floor and ceiling. Glass wall with no door gives the space a fresh air and open view, since the building is inside of another shell structure. LED light panel will become part of the ceiling panel a cross the room.

Spring 2014

This clear acrylic table is inspired by three way notching system, where one modul could aggregate infinitely by itself and create space. The purpose of this design is to create a table that could easily be install and aggregate into a large table or a table that have multi-table tops with different hight. This could make a table more useful and can expend not only horizontally but also vertically. I modified the notch to four ways, so it could create a flat surface for table top and extrude the last layer of the notch to create elegant table legs.
