Glenn Martinez 1955-2019 This program is dedicated to the memory of Glenn Martinez, the CIF Southern Section Assistant Commissioner who oversaw baseball and passed away March 1, 2019 at the age of 63. Martinez passed away at The City of Hope Cancer Hospital in Duarte surrounded by family and friends after a brief battle against cancer. “Glenn Martinez was a valued member of our CIF Southern Section Family who did an outstanding job in service to our organization during his tenure as an Assistant Commissioner,” said CIF-SS Commissioner of Athletics Rob Wigod. “The outpouring of love and support from so many people who Glenn impacted has been incredible, which speaks to the difference that he made in his time with us,” added Wigod. “I will miss him tremendously and will do all I can to keep his legacy alive. Our hearts go out to his loving wife Yolanda, their daughters Marissa and Lynette and their son Anthony.” Martinez was named as an Assistant Commissioner in July of 2011, replacing current Commissioner Rob Wigod. Prior to joining the CIF-SS Office, Martinez served as Vice Principal of Student Services and Athletics at Charter Oak High School starting in 2002. Martinez had taught at the school since 1998.
Martinez also served as Varsity Baseball Coach for one year. Prior to moving to Charter Oak, Martinez was a teacher and athletic director at Bishop Amat High School from 1979 to 1998. Martinez also served as Head Baseball Coach for the Lancers during his 19year tenure at the school. During that time, he compiled a 254-80-1 record, won seven league titles, was CIF-SS Division 1 runner-up in 1995 and claimed the division title in 1996. Martinez also spent 15 years as a varsity assistant football coach for Bishop Amat where he helped lead the Lancers to two CIF-SS championships (1992 and 1995) and three runner-up plaques (1983, 1988 and 1994). Martinez was born on August 13, 1955 and went on to graduate in 1973 from Franklin High School in Los Angeles where he played football and baseball. Martinez earned a bachelor’s degree in History from California State University, Northridge in 1993. He also earned a master’s degree in Administrative Education from Azusa Pacific in 2000 and a second masters in Sports Administration from the United States Sports Academy in 2007. He is survived by his wife, Yolanda and three children, daughter Marissa (son-in-law Jonathon Stover), son Anthony and daughter Lynette.

COMMISSIONER'S WELCOME WELCOME TO THE CIF SOUTHERN SECTION-FORD CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS
I congratulate each and every one of our student-athletes, coaches, administrations, and communities for this outstanding achievement. I thank all of you for your dedication and commitment to representing excellence on the playing fields, along with exemplifying the highest ideals of sportsmanship and character among our 564 member high schools in the CIF Southern Section. The CIF Southern Section was founded in 1913. Since our inception, we have always been first and foremost an educational institution dedicated to teaching young people valuable lessons they can utilize to make them better students now and better people for the future. We believe that the high school student who participates in athletics at their school will learn so many important values that will translate into success later in life. The ideals of teamwork, discipline, responsibility, perseverance through adversity and goal setting are all examples of important concepts taught to our young people through the outstanding leadership provided by our principals, athletic directors, and teacher/coaches. I look forward to the outstanding competition that is to come and seeing our young people pursue and realize their dreams. Let us all pledge to continue to support and celebrate them today, tomorrow and always. All the best,
Rob Wigod Commissioner of Athletics
