A GENERAL INTRODUCTION
FROM A COURSE TO THE MASTER
The Higher Education Course in Design for Kids & Toys was the first in Europe dedicated to train specialized professionals in this field, so much so as to have started the first official Toy Designer List, created by Assogiocattoli and POLI.design to distinguish and signal this new category of professionals to the entire design system and, in particular, to companies in the Italian and international toy sector. For this reason, the first edition of the Master in Design for Kids & Toys opens in 2018. The Specializing Master in Design for Kids & Toys is organized in partnership with Assogiocattoli, which represents Italian manufacturers and distributors working in this industry.

A GENERAL INTRODUCTION
ITALIAN DESIGN & DESIGN SYSTEM
Italy generally excels in design (that means culture, method and practice of project and production) in several fields like fashion, food and creativity applied to multiple activities, but in the toy and childcare productions Italian design has yet to play a key role in building a recognizable identity. The “Design System” and “System of Enterprise”, shows signiKcant episodes but certainly not a coherent and recognizable oversight in children’s products, in furniture for children, in the game and in the toy sector. From this scenario it comes a need in poly-technical and multiskill training. Designers and, in particular, strategic designers have the role of create scenarios understanding the many aspects and skills that compose the system.

ECOSYSTEM AROUND KIDS
THE PROBLEM
Play and its “playfulness offers a universal language, attractive and positive for the development of interactions between the children and the surrounding world.
There is a lack of a shared kids & toy culture, which is most of the time limited to imitate products for adults in a diminishing way.
Design for kids is based on a strictly traditional market, which is totally product-based and it is focused on a user (child) that is different from the consumer (adult).
#CHILD-CENTERED #DESIGNTHINKING #SERVICEDESIGN
THE SOLUTION
Train a new generation of designers able to manage complex design processes in the world of products and services that are childcentered.
