very generation has its great inventors, musicians, and artist, those people who impact the world beyond our own human comprehension. Steve Jobs, notably one of the most successful and influential individuals in the technological industry and CEO of Apple Inc, lost his battle to Pancreatic Cancer October 5th, 2011 and will forever be missed and remembered. I commend his courage and strength throughout his fight with Cancer and his humble decision to step down from his position of CEO only months before his passing. In his resignation letter he wrote “I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.” This issue is dedicated to his years of hard work, intelligent design, resilience, and knowledge of his industry. A genius in his own right, Jobs changed the way the world uses technology today and forever. As a continued supporter of the JCCF (Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation) I was compelled to pay homage to this incredible man and entrepreneur by not only giving him our front cover, but by re-printing our signature “CilaneNior Fights Cancer” T-shirts to help the JCCF find a cure for Cancer through research. I have great sympathy for those who spend years battling Cancer and wish I could console all the families who loose loved ones to this inexplicable disease. Nevertheless, we plan to make a difference even if it’s baby steps toward the bigger picture. Ten percent of every sale from our signature tee’s will be donated to the JCCF. “The end of Cancer starts with Research” -JCCF Visit www.cilanenior.com for more details. -Cindy Cityy

Rolling into the Holiday Season, October is here and we are ready for its fall presence accompanied by an “Orangeylike” feeling. Fashion lovers will be sporting these classic color & hues to start the Month out in style.

I

’ve been waiting pa-

tiently all year long to highlight The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month; which is an annual, international health campaign organized by major breast Cancer charities, to increase awareness and raise money for Cancer research. The funds go to different areas such as cause and prevention, diagnosis and analysis, treatment and possible cures. The term “Breast Cancer” refers to a malignant tumor that has developed from cells in the breast. (Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among U.S. women.) This disease accounts for more than 1 in 4 women diagnosed with Cancer (about 28%). By way of genes passed on from mothers and fathers or being inherited from a lineage of Cancer bearers, it is considered to be a genetic abnormality; a process that takes it’s toll through aging and the “inn’s & out’s” of life. Here are a couple ways to help stay physically fit and mentally well through any battle one is fighting. 1) Maintain a healthy weight 2) Add exercise into your daily routine 3) Limit alcohol intake and avoid smoking tobacco 4) Keep a positive attitude

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. ~Winston Churchill --Modisty Nior

Mike Vensel Spring/Summer 2012 Collection

New York Fashion Week | Concept Show

M

ike Vensel an America fashion designer, publisher of Kitten Magazine and freelance photographer has won the hearts of our CilaneLetter editors in just a few short months. After seeing his Spring 2012 collection during New York Fashion Week at the Audi Forum, I was compelled to introduce myself after the show and quickly learn as much as I could about this designer. My primary goal while in New York was to scout for a few designers to add to our online boutique (SHOP CilaneNior), and this collection was exactly what I had been waiting to see. His work is very minimalistic, modern, sexy, and wearable by the every day woman. As I sat front row at my last show during Fashion Week, I remember thinking to myself as the looks were coming down the runway, wow that is what our boutique needs! Each collection explores natural, cultural and architectural elements which creates a fusion between organic design evolution and futuristic ideas of a second skin. With use of organic cottons, bamboo, recycled leather and silk overstocks the brand has an ecological responsibility that goes beyond eco marketing and minimizes its footprint by producing in small quantities on demand using the most ethical practices-- I was very impressed with Mike Vensel’s 2012 collection and look forward to seeing his installation at the ACE Gallery during Concept Fashion Week starting October 13th. Mike Vensel’s installation will be held Friday October 14th from 5-9pm. Meet Derrick Smith

A New York native and Obvious Magazine Model. Derrick Smith talks with CilaneNior about his continued humanitarian efforts, working with Obvious Mag and “The Speak” his most recent Voice Campaign. CLN: Modeling is underrated and one of many challenging but rewarding careers. Is modeling your first love and passion? DS: Modeling is definitely a passion of mine. This is one of the only fields where there is no real off-season, models work all year round. I love it. CLN: How long have you been pursing a modeling career? DS: I’ve been modeling for a little over 5 years. CLN: You are constantly around

MODEL SPOTLIGHT www.clnprint.com

FASHION; designers, stylist, and editors, but how heavily into fashion are you? A: I’m very much into fashion, and I take pride in how I look, smell and how I fit into my clothes, because to me, presentation is everything. CLN: What current or recent projects are you working on ? DS: I just did a campaign for “The Speak” a vocal ad campaign that is featured in various magazines and websites. (CilaneNior recognizes your constant charity work and active participation, in the community, and commend you.) CLN: Are you still with Obvious Magazine? DS: Thank you, charity work will always be in the forefront of my career because I believe in being rooted. And yes, thankfully, I am still working with

Obvious Magazine. I enjoy being with the magazine a great deal. I’m proud to be a model, who gets the opportunity to work with a such a notable publication. I am constantly learning the in’s and out’s of the magazine production process, and in my opinion it makes being a model easier. CLN: You are a Model and a Humanitarian, any message would you like to bestow on others on a similar path? DS: Patience is everything and you can’t fake consistency. Those are sayings that I live by. You have to believe in yourself and everything you do. Stay consistent and be patient, don’t get discouraged if It takes to long. Great things take time and effort. And if you want it that bad, your going to work your tail off and do whatever it takes. You don’t need money to work hard--

KayneWest After the show’s over

Written by Cindy Cityy

If you get it all right on the first shot, where do you go from there? --Joe Zee; Elle Creative Director

Turn up the lights in here baby, extra bright, I want yall to see this Turn up the lights in here baby, you know what I mean, want you to see everything, want you to see all of the lights... -Kayne West feat Rhianna “All of the Lights”

K

ayne West has been a hot topic for the last few weeks, and has managed to generated a considerable amount of press before and after the debut of his fashion line, shown during Paris Fashion Week. Mr. West has received less than stellar reviews from the top fashion bloggers, industry designers, and editors from the most notable fashion magazines, but all hope is not lost. There is something far bigger than the obvious, that should be taken away from Kayne West’s seemingly haphazard debut. “Never give up”. Kayne West is one of the most influential artist in the entertainment industry to-date, and even a “Superstar” like Kayne West may have to fall a few times, before he reaches to the T.O.P. I believe that failing at something initially, simply means, you have not fully comprehended all the functions necessary to succeed, but you pick up the pieces and you try again. Failing with room for improvement is healthy, it gives you perspective and requires you to learn from your mistakes. After you dry your eyes, you get busy. The world has gotten high on overnight success, which has caused us to essentially abandon the ideology of “natural progression” and “development”, which are fundamental components to success. My colleagues and I believe in Kayne West, and adore and commend his passion for not only his music but his adoration for fashion. My advice would be to “do more research”, build a great team of people who are knowledgeable in the field you wish to endeavour, and take your fucking time. No one every received an award for finishing the fastest. I admire those people, who can even in the heat of the moment, recognize when things are not ready and pull the plug. You must meet your own expectations, before you try to over exceed someone else’s. #justsayin.

“We wont take, no time out til we reach the T.O.P” --Kayne West

Sam Sarpong A Man of Many Talents

An Exclusive Interview in his Kitchen with CilaneNior

Actor, supermodel, host, and rapper, the multi talented Sam Sarpong has already appeared in over sixty feature films, over forty-five television shows and was the international face for Tommy Hilfiger for over six years.

In the Kitchen with Sam Sarpong: CLN: What are your favorite toppings to put on pizza? SS: My favorite pizza is “Barbecue Chicken” pizza from CPK (California Pizza Kitchen). CLN: Yummy! CPK is always a great choice, a rather gourmet alternative to Pizza Hut or Domino’s. Next, When your not scouring the globe for fashion campaigns or filming a movie, what are you doing? SS: I love to play basketball and go shopping. CLN: Nice! We love to go shopping as well, and are always visiting new stores and online boutiques to stay current on fashion trends. What would you consider your staple items for the fall season? SS: I must always have a quality pee coat and a nice scarf. You have to have a scarf, and a leather jacket. Oh, and my signature beanie. I always have a beanie on.

CLN: Absolutely! All four of those items add texture to an outfit during the colder months of the year. You were in London for Fashion Week, what was your favorite designer show? SS: Burberry was off the hook! I went to a few others, but Burberry really stuck out for me, in my opinion it was the best show. CLN: Yes, Burberry’s fashion for fall is always on point, they do a great job at implementing the proper attire for the season. They have the pea coats and scarfs and even poncho’s. So they are definitely in tune with you fall suggestions. We are aware that you have a group called the “League” that is well received overseas, but do you have any solo projects in the works? SS: Yes, I was actually in London on tour, for my album coming out entitled “Music of the Future” which is a dance electro pop sound. I have a few songs out on iTunes right now which are available for download called Fire, another called “Lose My Mind” which I just finished the video for while on tour. CLN: We will be sure to check out those songs on iTunes, and congratulations on all your success hitherto. Not only are you working on music, you are staring in some big films, tell us a little about that. SS: I just did a big movie called “Trigger”, also working on a film right now called “No Weapons Formed Against Us”, but I have a movie out right now called “Anchor Baby” and when I finish with No Weapons, ill be starring in a singing movie called “Forbidden” CLN: Wow! You are one busy man, and we love it. Switching gears back to fashion, LA Fashion Week is upon us, and we work with a few emerging models in Los Angeles, is there any advice that you can lend them, as they pursue a career in the modeling industry? SS: The key to fashion, really is just being yourself, and once your in, you must always reinvent yourself. The fashion industry is tricky, because they are always looking for that “new” hot face or what they consider new. That means you really must stay on top of your game, because that is the only way you will have longevity. It is a very cut throat business that is always looking for what’s new, and no matter what level your on, someone is looking to take your spot. So make sure to always take it to that next level. CLN: That is awesome, thank you for taking out time from your business schedule to speak with us, we wish you tremendous success for all your upcoming projects and will be sure to check out Anchor Baby, No Weapons, And Trigger when they hit the box office! SS: Thank you ladies, it was my pleasure. You can follow Sam Sarpong on Twitter @SamMrSarpong and add him on Facebook “Sam Sarpong”. To learn more about Sam visit www.samsarpong.com.

E

very season has its style basics, which are the essential items needed to make your wardrobe is transitional from the day to night. You can take those essentials and pair them with your “favorite” articles of clothing and sport them all year long! My fall style board can be utilized by both men and women. Both men and women can use a button down shirt, preferably white, which works in the office boardroom and on casual Fridays Some additional items to consider including in your closest this fall are: trousers, cardigans, a pair of quality boots, a nice pair of denim jeans which typically last through three or four seasons, and a nice watch. I have learned to appreciate the convenience of a wrist watch to tell the time, because it is not always as convenient to pull out your cell phone! These are some of the basics that every woman and man should have/include in their wardrobe. Luckily for California residents, we don’t have much of a Fall or Winter season but it is nice to switch up your style of dress as the season changes. Check out My Fall Fashion Basics!

A fool talks swiftly elevating the mouth piece before he thinks... but what’s missing? A brain signal that’s in conjunction to the function. Cityy | Rule One Humility, is the point on the X,Y coordinate graph of life, wherein the heart and mind intersect, yielding an understanding that no matter how much success one achieves- the equation of life remains unsolved. Humility, is to be in awe of the equation that is life, and acutely aware that your success is just a fraction.

DO RIGHT AND KILL EVERYTHING

TAKE CARE NOVEMBER 15

From Drake’s Facebook Page: The new date for Take Care is November 15th, 2011. I managed to create this album in my hometown of Toronto and the thoughts and stories I wanted to get across just became so clear. It truly felt like when I was here 3 years ago making So Far Gone. So I have completed 19 songs (17 on physical and 2 on bonus), and have run into a roadblock of clearing 3 samples in time to make the October 24th date. My options were to take the songs off and make the birthday release happen, or to take an extra couple weeks to get the paper work right and give you the album they way I NEED you to hear it. The choice was clear as day for me. November 15th you will get Take Care the exact way I created it with no trimmings. This music means too much to me to get attached to dates and I do apologize for the delay but I promise that it is only for the benefit of our experience together. Club Paradise Tour will also be moved to when students are back from the Christmas/New Year break so that I can get to more schools. New dates will be released in the next week...see you all soon.
