Whitby Abbey was illuminated to mark the 125th anniversary of the publication of Bram Stoker’s Dracula

Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, was bathed in dramatic illuminations from October 25-31. English Heritage celebrated the 125th anniversary of the publication of the famous gothic novel by projecting bats onto the abbey.

Whitby Abbey has spent 2022 celebrating all things Dracula – from quests and theatre performances to a record-breaking event. In May, the anniversary of Bram Stoker’s novel was marked with the Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Vampires – 1,369.
