SCORE
SCORE GOES PUBLIC (SGP) EXTREME SGP Extreme is the extension level of SCORE Goes Public (SGP). This program is an annual project, held by all local committees of SCORE in Indonesia, bringing in the latest health issues, and involving hundreds of medical students from all over Indonesia. This project aims to increase the knowledge and ability of SCORE members in research, to increase motivation of SCORE members to continue working mainly in the field of research, and many specific goals depending on the theme raised every year. This project has been held for two years starting in 2013. In 2014, SGP Extreme has collaborated with World Health Organization (WHO) as the partner for funding and materials needed. Basically, SGP Extreme is a survey method which purpose is to gain information about certain issues in all locals of SCORE CIMSA, with the purpose of contributing to the society in our subject of exper CIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016
tise. The year 2013 is the first time SCOREstarted this project, and to begin this new project,we raised UHC (Universal Health Coverage) as the theme. The reason why we raised UHC or SJKN as the theme is because in Indonesia, SJKN is one of the most talked about and the hottest topic amongst Indonesia’s health issues, and considering that it hasn’t been implemented yet, and will begin in 2014, we thought that this might be the best theme for us to start this project with. The purpose of this year’s SGP Extreme is to gain information about the public’s understanding level of UHC. To gain that information, we used questionnaires formulated by the National Committee On Research Exchange (NCRE),which will be given to each LCRE (Local Committee on Research Exchange) through their Local Officer on Research Exchange (LORE). Then, each LORE, along with their LCRE mem
SCORE -bers, will search for a location where the community has suitable indicators to conduct this survey. The LCREs will record the answer from the questionnaires that they have given to the public, and then send back the result to the NCRE who will evaluate the result from all the LCREs. In order to utilize the information from the results,SCORE will cooperate with the government or any organization that have an interest in UHC like NGOs and mass media (newspaper, magazine, journal) by handing over the results that we have as their source of information. This will give SCORE CIMSA, as well as CIMSA by extension,a positive feedback because it will lift the existence of SCORE CIMSA and CIMSA in the eye of the government and society.

WORLD AIDS DAY Since 1988, the world has begun to celebrate the 1st December as the World AIDS Day, in order to draw people together from every corners in the world to pay tribute to the millions of people living with HIV/AIDS, raise awareness of HIV/AIDS, and of course to make sure that more people can live healthier and longer through education about HIV/AIDS. World Aids Day is the biggest occasion that SCORA organized in a year. Held in December, this project expected to give a wide knowledge, education, role in reducCIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016

ing the grow of HIV/AIDS in Indonesia. In each every locals of SCORA has to create their own WAD project, their most important target is the civilians, the people near them, it can be their friends, families, or others. Why? Because our ultimate goal is every people in Indonesia knows inside-outside, everything about HIV/AIDS so that we can reduce the percentage of people living with HIV/AIDS in Indonesia. Of course, in order to fulfill our dream we usually cooperate with other groups, institutes, or companies with the same vision and awareness with HIV/AIDS. We usually held the project in several days, it can be a week or a full month, divided into many kind of activities. We believe in this cause, we have to use the most important component, that is education. The education itself, it can be told to the people in

every locals held the WAD project already understand about HIV/AIDS, they filled with education about HIV/AIDS with a hope they can change their behaviour to people with HIV/AIDS.
various ways, it can be through presentation, grand lecture, video, movie, drama, roleplay and many other exciting ways. What we’re trying to give to them mostly about how HIV spreaded, the prevention, how we have to treat the people living with it, increasing the awareness. The most important thing in WAD is about campaign. What thing that come first to you when you think about HIV/AIDS? Yes, i guess that you’ll think about the red ribbon. The red ribbon used as a symbol of awareness, support, and remembrance of those affected by HIV and AIDS. In WAD made by SCORA, of course we will use the red ribbon symbol in every campaign we make. The campaign held in every interesting and exciting as it can be, spreaded in the social media like YouTube, Twitter, Instagram and etc. , or we can go directly to the street, do our campaign in front of many people, giving information, walking-education, invite them to participate in the campaign in example, tweet the hashtag from CIMSA, post their photo with our WAD attribute and many more. We make them fight the HIV/AIDS stigma together.
As I said before, the campaign itself will be supported by other organizations with same vision, it can be a Governement Organization or Non-Government Organization that enroll in the HIV/AIDS mattters. It can be on a scale of national or international. We make sure the campaign accessible to everyone, we spread it through every available social media. We make every locals make a campagin on Youtube, video about how their campaign organized and executed in their local. Not only on YouTube, we also do the same on Twitter and Instagram. We hope that through interesting and exciting ways of the campaign, every people can absorb the education we gave easier. Especially in Indonesia, the way people treat HIV/AIDS is quite pathetic. The culture of our society makes HIV/AIDS looks like its “bullied” and we know that if this keeps happen for a long time, there will be many more people live with HIV/AIDS and not being treated well.
After the long campaign, we can say that our project succeed if people nearby in CIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016
PAGE 21 LOCAL PEER EDUCATOR TRAINING
SCORA
LOCAL PEER EDUCATOR TRAINING (LPET) HIV is a fast-growing virus that can easily spread among many people, in Jakarta for example, the estimated number of people living with HIV in the city is approaching 100.000 in 2013 based from the UNAIDS report. Accordding through national surveillance data, estimated HIV prevalence in Jakarta itself is really high, with 56,4 % found among people use drugs, 17,2% among men who have sex with men and 10,5% among female sex workers. So here, SCORA dedicated its project to prevent it from increasing. SCORA is SCO which mostly uses Peer Education concept on many of its projects so that’s why we make LPET. We believe in order to decrease the spreading of the HIV, the most effective way is through peer education which means the information about HIV is delivered to a person with the same age or coeval. We oblige every locals that has SCORA in it to make LPET in one period with the guideline from the NCORA, because it’s a way to make sure they already understand all the materials about HIV/AIDS before they give them to another person. By this, we hope that information can be spread easier than through formal sex education which is something that Indonesia hasn’t been familiar with. Then who are the participants? LPET is a project where peer educators give ma CIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016
terials to the new member, it can be in a form of presentation, role-play, quiz and etc. It’s up to the locals how they will run the project, but we have to make sure that the important things are all delivered to the participants. LPET can be done in a one time occasion or gradually in the time of one period, the most important is that all the locals have to fulfill the standarization that NCORA made. In a short explanation, LPET is divided into 3 parts, Pre-LPET, LPET and then Post LPET. In Pre-LPET, the new members will be given a questioner about anything connected to HIV/AIDS it can be the definition, way of transmission, the high risk people, fact or myth, way of prevention, how to treat ODHA and etc. It’s used to measure how far they know about HIV/AIDS. After that, they
SCORA
LOCAL PEER EDUCATOR TRAINING PAGE 22
will receive materials as mentioned before. The last one, is the Post-LPET, the contents of this part is same as the Pre-LPET, they will received a questioner. The different between them is at the Post-LPET the purpose is changed to see how far they have learned from the materials given. We expect changes in knowledge and behaviour of the participants after the LPET. We can say they succeed if they already masters all the knowledges given and can behave like a peer educator. The project itself, can be classified as a success one from the checklists that NCORA gives to every locals. So that’s all about LPET, there maybe a lot of things that can be developed years ahead about LPET. We hope so much that through this project, we will give a concrete proof of our role in fighting HIV/AIDS.

BREAKING THE SILENCE
SCOME
BREAKING THE SILENCE
Proverb says “A meaningful silence is always better than a meaningless words”. Sometimes in silence we can see something deeper than usual. As the name of this project :"Breaking The Silence", SCOME CIMSA comes with a project that aims to break the silence which has been neglected from our perpective.
Quoting from the study of Hendarmin in 2011, “Deaf people in Indonesia has reached 0.1 percent of each 3.5 percent of the population. If it is assumed that by the year 2013 there are 250 million people in Indonesia, then total of deaf people is 8.75 million. Almost twice of the total Singapore’s population. By these, approximately 700,000 were able to use sign language. While the number of deaf people sick each year estimated: 1.75 percent. This indicates, at least every year there are 12,250 deaf people who need a medical help.” So how deaf patients can be treat if the doctor is not able to understand their complaint? As we know that anamnesis is the successful key of a treatment. It is true, deaf patients should have hearing aids, however, Indonesia is still at the poverty line so that -- only a small fraction that has it. This is what makes scome CIMSA organized "Break The Silence" project -- or more familiarly referred to the BTS. Through BTS, medical students or CIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016
other medical personnel are expected to do the anamnesis of deaf patients who might come alone to the hospital or delivered by another person who does not understand sign language. Participants who are medical students or other medical personnel will be train to use sign language and strengthen “heart to heart” commuication between deaf patients and the doctors or other medical personnel. In the end, the goal of any medical action can be reached, to fulfill the needs of the patient. Basically, BTS can be implemented by all the local that has the capability to carry out these activities. It means, the local cooperation already has a reference to a community of deaf persons. In order to achieve the objectives, BTS needs trainers who are experienced in this field. This project requiresabout a day, which is composed of materials and training. Final results are expected from this project is the expansion of knowledge and ability of participants to use sign language to enhance the success of anamnesis. In addition, participants are expected to not underestimated patient who has a disability of hearing, otherwise they will have a high desire to help and understand what is needed by the deaf patient. Not only that, this project also requires a good positive feedback from the community and deaf persons who followed the event.
SCOME
As already mentioned in the previous paragraph, to improve the success of this BTS project, we need an external cooperation such as a cooperation with the deaf community for training, ENT specialist to explain how deafness can occur, as well as specialist psychiatric doctor to explain how should patients with disability of hearing treated. Publication is an important aspect to achieve the success of BTS. The most effective is through social media such as line, instagram, twitter, facebook, website, or other social media. With interesting pictures
BREAKING THE SILENCE PAGE 24
and accompanied by the words of persuasion, are expected to make medical students or other medical personnel more interesting to participate this event. Finally, all of us hope that “Breaking The Silence" can be useful for further medical world, and could make the prospective doctor -- not only smart in theory, but also be able to apply it in the real world, especially to those who have limitations. In the end, silence creates either distance or comfort – the heart chooses which.

PAGE 25 CAREER DAY
SCOME
career day Bright future is a hope for every individual. Currently, we are studying about medical things, which is we would become a doctor later. But then -- what kind of doctor that we would like to be? Whether we will become an ordinary doctor or an extraordinary one? Indeed, the expectations of every medical students would like to be a specialist doctor. However, the big question will arise, whether we can reach the goal or we will have an obstacle in our way to become an extra-ordinary doctor. When in the real medical field, sometimes patient will be disappointed by few doctors who already hold the title of general practitioners who doesn’t have an adequate competences. In a big city, the number of doctors have very abundant. No wonder if there are 10 doctors position are desired by 40 doctors. The key to success for the next step is to understand the passion and the potential that exists in yourself. Departing from the extent of the medical career that may still not be known by many medical students, SCOME CIMSA engaged in "Medical Education" designing a project which has a goal to introduce and increase the knowledge of medical students about what is the next step for achieving the bright future. Furthermore, this project better known as "Career Day". CIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016
Career Day was first held at the University of Pelita Harapan (UPH) Jakarta, held in March, exactly on March 29, 2015, supported by experienced speakers. This project has a target audience: medical students. Why? Because we believe that all the good future should be designed by a good plan and effort. In addition, when a person already knows his/her purpose, it becomes a motivation for them to reach the goal., Career Day is planned to be done by all the local who already have the capability to carry out this project. This project consists of seminars, talk shows and also the provision of up to date information about careers in medical fields. From Career Day, participants will have benefit such as tips and tricks to achieve their goals. This project can be successful, when the targeted number of participants can be met, but it is expected that all participants can go home with a strong desire on “what kind of doctor I want to be". Participants also motivated to study harder in an attempt to achieve what is aspired. The most effective publication strategy is done through social media such as line, twitter, instagram, or the official web of CIMSA. Finally, your future is created by what you do today and the best way to predict the future is to create it, now. Project Career Day is just a bridge to find 'a little' about

NATIONAL DOCTOR’S day Doctor is a profession that related with human being. As medical personnel, doctor is the first place to contact by the patient to solve their health problem. More than the application of science and technology, medicine is a special profession, a special calling. Those people who have chosen in this profession must understand their responsibility and duty. Referring to the work of physicians, Dr. Elmer Hess a former president of American Medical Association had ever wrote “There is no greater reward in our profession than the knowledge that God has entrusted us with the physical care of His people. The Almighty has reserved for Himself the power to create life, but He has assigned to a few of us the responsibility of keeping in good repair the bodies in which this life is sustained.” Both reverence for human life and individual dignity are the hallmark of a good doctor. As medical student, we have to be good doctor in the future. Become a good doctor is not an easy thing. We have to become a long life learner and always update about health issues because the information about health rapidly developed. National doctors’ day held to appreciate all doctors in Indonesia and also to make the medical students aware with their own CIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016
responsibilities and duties. National doctors’ day also held to give illustration for medical student about their life in the future. In the future, the medical student must become professional and competent doctor. National doctors’ day is an annual project held by Standing Committee on Medical Education CIMSA. This project held to become a reflection for doctors and medical students about their responsibility. As a doctor, we have to develop our knowledge and ability about medicine and always keep our good and professional attitude. Patient safety is the priority for us. National doctor’s day always celebrated in 24th October. This project will be held one day and in every locals of SCOME. About the concept of this project depends on the locals of SCOME. NATIONAL HEALTH COLLABORATION DAY
SCOME
NATIONAL HEALTH COLLABORATION DAY National Health Collaboration Day is a day to celebrate the collaboration between the medical personnel one another. In 2014, 12th October was established as national health collaboration day by Centers for Indonesian Medical Students Activities, Ikatan Senat Mahasiswa Kedokteran Indonesia, Ikatan Lembaga Mahasiswa Ilmu Keperawatan Indonesia, Persatuan Senat Mahasiswa Kedokteran Gigi Indonesia, Ikatan Mahasiswa Kebidanan, Ikatan Senat Mahasiswa Farmasi Seluruh Indonesia, Ikatan Senat Mahasiswa Kesehatan Masyarakat and Ikatan Lembaga Mahasiswa Ilmu Gizi Indonesia. All of these organizations give their support for inter professional education and collaboration to increase the quality of health. The declaration of national health collaboration day is related with closing of Nusantara Health Collaborative 2014 that show up Inter Professional Education. This project is held to support inter professional education and collaboration. Inter Professional Education refers to occasion or opportunity when students from more than one profession in health and social care learn together during all or part of their professional training with the object of collaborative practice to provide patient-centered health care. Based on American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education 2009, inter professional education is “an important pedagogical approach for preCIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016
paring health professions students to provide patient care in a collaborative team environment.” The appealing premise of inter professional education is that once health care professional begin to work together in a collaborative manner, patient care will improve and enhance the quality of patient care, lower costs, decrease patients’ length of stay and reduce medical errors. And also the Institute of Medicine (IOM) declared that “health professionals should be educated to deliver patient-centered care as members of interdisciplinary team.” Patient safety will improve and patient will receive safer and high quality care of health when all health care professionals work effectively as a team, communicate productively and understand each other’s roles. The goal of inter professional education is for students to know and learn about the function in an inter professional team and carry this knowledge, skills and value into their future practice, ultimately providing inter professional patient care as part of collaborative team and focused on improving patient outcomes. Targets of this project are health profession student and also health care provider. In this project, we want to make them realize and aware about IPE because IPE is very important to improve patient care and safety. This project will held in every locals of SCOME CIMSA in 12th October in one day. And also maybe we will make a cam-

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
SCOPH
WORLd MENTAL HEALTH DAY
The last thing that anyone would want is when the brain started to terrify them. About 21 million people worldwide and 400.000 people in Indonesia with schizophrenia have this feeling. Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder, which makes individuals with this disease see things and hear voices that are not real. While others might find people with schizophrenia hard to make sense, this disease distress the patient severely and affect their social lives. As this issue catches our concern, SCOPH CIMSA decides to raise the nation’s awareness towards this disease. SCOPH CIMSA invites Indonesia to recognize schizophrenia as a disease and to help people that are living with schizophrenia. As the theme of World Mental Health Day this year, we want to engage these people to live with dignity. To live with dignity means to live without limits. For that reason, we are going to hold a poster making challenge, a trivia, and a documentary video, which consist all of the basic signs and symptoms of schizophrenia, and how to treat them so they can live their lives as normal people. As a part of our campaign, SCOPH CIMSA is going to socialize this event through our social media and our external partnerships. The participants that are CIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016
involved in this project will be asked to submit their creations by the 30th of September 2015; also each poster is going to be posted social media, preferably on Instagram, at the same time from October 1st with a hashtag #ChangeForChance. By the end of the event, we are going to have the two winners, which are the one with the best poster, by considering all the poster components with SCOPH CIMSA Officials and our external partnerships, and the one with the most likes in social media, by considering the number of likes as the most favorite poster winner. On the 10th of October 2015, we are going to publish the best awareness campaign posters, as we will also announce the winners of the poster making challenge. As for the trivia “True or False”, SCOPH CIMSA will publish a set of flashcard which contain basic questions about schizophrenia through a documentary video made by each local of SCOPH CIMSA from 1-10 September 2015, and through social media from 10-30 September 2015. The success indicators of this project are seen in different aspects. First, there are a minimum of 10 participants that have submitted their poster creations. Second, all the information shown in the poster clearly shows the participants understanding about schizophrenia and how to handle people that are living with this disease.
SCOPH Third, the minimum of 50 likes for the most favorite poster and our flashcards on social media (Instagram) that indicates other social media users contribution towards this campaign. Lastly, there are 10 locals that contribute their own documentary video. SCOPH CIMSA realizes that this project will not go well without the help from the parties that have experiences in dealing
WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY PAGE 32 with schizophrenia issues. Therefore, in order for this project to run, we invite Komunitas Peduli Skizofrenia to raise the nation’s awareness and to engage the people that are living with schizophrenia. We hope by working together, we can reach those people that have this disease, and also help the nation to have a better health.

WORLD LUPUS DAY Our immune system is designed to protect the whole body system against infection. Meanwhile, people with lupus have their immune system that attacks their own body tissues. Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that affects more than 5 million people worldwide and 1 million people in Indonesia. It is difficult to diagnose lupus CIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016
earlier since its symptoms come and go, which can appear like other diseases. Meanwhile, some cases are recognized late when the complications started to appear. Thus, there is great possibility for the number of lupus cases to keep on increasing in upcoming years. Lupus has widespread throughout the nation. Since lupus manifests different symptoms in different patient, awareness and knowledge towards this disease
SCOPH is quite lacking. While the patient has not received any treatments, the life expectancy for lupus victims is far less than the normal lifespan. Fortunately, today, medicine has advanced beyond to treat, manage and prevent symptoms from showing up. This breakthrough can help these patients to live a normal lifespan, then again, a higher sense of awareness towards people with lupus symptoms can help to save more lives. Therefore, SCOPH CIMSA has decided to bring out this issue to the society. In order to celebrate World Lupus Day on May 10th 2016, SCOPH CIMSA would like to engage an awareness campaign towards this life-threatening disease during April-May 2016. This project will contain a series of talk-show, publication documentary, and many more varied events that will be initiated from different hosting locals. The participants of this event will involve the society around each local of SCOPH CIMSA, and will be assessed for their knowledge regarding lupus before the main event is held.
WORLD LUPUS DAY PAGE 34 their knowledge through a post-test questionnaire. We hope to see 50% of improvement in their knowledge about lupus. In addition, we would like the participants to contribute in the making of a documentary video, which will be published via social media including LINE Account, Instagram, SCOPH website, Twitter, etc. In order to run this project, we would like to work with Yayasan Lupus Indonesia as a main contributor and as a supporter towards this project. Through this partnership, we are hoping to invite the main speakers for the talk-show held by each hosting locals. Moreover, we would be glad if YLI can support us in the publication of the project. We hope through this project, we can help to raise the nation’s awareness towards lupus and empower the society to help lupus patients.
To promote this project, each local is going to publish some trivia about lupus as a disease and how it affects those who have it around April-May 2016 via social media. Also, each hosting locals will invite a rheumatologist and a lupus survivor as the main guest speakers of the talk-show held in each local. Through this project, we hope that more than 100 participants received by each hosting locals can be more aware and easier to recognize lupus patients. We will evaluate all of the participants regarding CIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016

WORLd diabetes day “I can control my diabetes by eating veggies, exercising regularly and drinking water…but I’m holding out for better options.” 387 million people worldwide and 138 million people in Western Pacific have diabetes. As for Indonesia, 9 million people are diagnosed with diabetes. This disease costs a lot of time and money to one patient. In addition, it takes a lot of attention and care to manage a patient. As one CIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016
of the annual projects of SCOPH CIMSA, SCOPHeroes across the country have chosen to focus on this issue again. Diabetes is a controllable disease and the risk of developing diabetic complications can be reduced with the right diet and lifestyle. Thus, to support the World Diabetes Day on 14 November 2015, 18 locals of SCOPH CIMSA will hold sustainable projects to the nation’s awareness towards diabetes and empower them to live a healthier life.
SCOPH The main theme for this year’s WDD is “healthy living and diabetes”. These projects will be held on September-November 2015 through a series of campaigns and celebrations in local villages among the 11 cities in Indonesia preceding the WDD. By the beginning of September, each local is going to carry out an assessment in the form of questionnaires in the village where this project will be held. The results of the questionnaires will be evaluated by the organizing committees as they will also set specific goals for the village and every participant. In order to share about disease prevention, the event involves seminars and peer to peer lectures by medical expertise for adult villagers about diabetes risk factors, signs and symptoms, and its prevention. Some locals are going to prepare interactive activities for children to participate in order to pass such information. In addition, there is going to be an exercise and a fun walk session for all the villagers to participate.
WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
PAGE 36
To approach the whole villagers for health education purpose, screening examinations will be organized for all the participants. The examination will include blood sugar level, cholesterol level, blood pressure, weight, and body mass index. All of the participants will get a chance to evaluate their health through a consultation session with a doctor. To promote all the events organized by every local, the location is going to be decorated with blue circles, posters and banners. Some locals are prepared to broadcast this national event throughout the city. In order to make these projects into reality, we are hoping to work with Persatuan Diabetes Indonesia once again, as a main contributor throughout the entire project. Why cure when we can prevent? We hope that through presenting the World Diabetes Day project, with our dreams and goals to prevent diabetes, we can raise the nation’s awareness towards this disease and create a healthier future.

SMOKING CONTROL CLINIC “Giving up smoking is easy is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I’ve done it thousands of times.” – Mark Twain. Smoking is addictive. Sometimes, people associate smoking with glamour and fancy. Then again, most people are aware of the consequences caused by tobacco smoking. However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tobacco is considered as the top ten causes of death in the world. In fact, one in five deaths is due to cigarette smoking. By today, tobacco uses have caused nearly 6 million deaths per year worldwide and 400 000 deaths annually in Indonesia.
CIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016
As future doctors, medical students around the nation should play their role in prevention of diseases caused by tobacco uses. We should also be updated with all the research and new findings within this field. In addition, there are different kinds of approaches used in smoking clinics in the country. It is well known that smoking can kill in varieties of ways; on the other hand, smoking also has been identified as a preventable factor of morbidity and mortality. SCOPH CIMSA presents the nation with Smoking Control Clinic Project. The main aim of this project is to the people that have have been attempting and struggling to quit smoking. In order to run this project,
SCOPH as a main contributor to give out guidance for all SCOPH CIMSA locals that are involved in this project. Smoking Control Clinic is a community development project that is going to run from January-May 2016, preceding the World No Tobacco Day on 31st May 2016. Before that, the involved locals are going assess their local community in order to look for smoking patients that are willing to give up their smoking habit. Along the way, the involved locals are going to receive a guideline, created by the National Public Health Committee and QTI, regarding the kinds of approaches they can do towards their smoking patients. Each patient will be handled by one SCOPHero, and they will be evaluated monthly and reported to the National Committee in order to see their progress through the number of cigarettes smoked. The goal of this project is to see smoking patients reduce the amount of ciga-

The success indicators of this project are seen in different aspects. First, there is a minimum of 3 patients that are committed to stop smoking. Second, each patient showed progress through a decrease in the number of cigarettes consumed. Third, every patient’s progress is reported monthly to the national committee. Fourth, there are no patients that withdraw from this project. Lastly, every patient and SCOPHero has an increase in knowledge about cigarettes. We hope WNTD 2016 is not only celebrated as the end of Smoking Control Clinic, but it is also a reminder for everyone to not smoke for their own health. The patients involved in the project will be a real proof to the world. They can quit smoking, and so anyone could have done the same.

INDONESIA DISEASE TODAY “ The biggest disease today is not leprosy or tuberculosis, but rather the feeling of being unwanted, uncared for, and deserted by everybody.” – Mother Teresa. Leprosy is considered to be one of the ancient diseases known in history. Back then, people who start to show white painless patches around their skin are isolated in order to prevent themselves from spreading their disease into another person. While today, medical knowledge has improved significantly. With a more advanced medical care towards leprosy patient, we hope that the number of leprosy cases across the world would decrease. Yet, leprosy remains a major health problem in East Java. By 2014, about 4600 cases of leprosy were reported from cities across the province. The number of cases in each city is thought to increase every year. As the number of leprosy cases is predicted to incline in the following years, this issue catches our concern to prevent the cases from increasing. As a matter of fact, leprosy is considered to be a curable disease when the patients obey to follow a complete multi drug therapy. In addition, these days, East Java is doing their best to eliminate leprosy by the end of 2017. Therefore, SCOPH CIMSA has decided to raise awareness and care from medical students towards leprosy. Indonesian Disease Today 2016 will CIMSA PROJECTS 2015 - 2016
be held on March 2016 in Tanjung Kenongo Village, Pacet, Mojokerto – East Java. The main concepts of this project are to improve knowledge of SCOPHeroes as the participants of IDT and to give them a chance to educate, promote health, and prevent diseases through a series of activities. The participants of this event will be given a chance to blend and live in with the villagers within 3 days and 2 nights. Along with blending in with local villagers, the participants are going to educate and promote health towards leprosy patients from Sumber Glagah Hospital. On the first day, in order to educate the villagers, the delegates from different locals of SCOPH CIMSA will join the welcoming party held by the host local. Then, they will be given several lectures and seminars by Direktur Jenderal Penyebaran Penyakit dan Pengendalian Lingkungan about all the basic information regarding leprosy, such as its signs and symptoms, disease management, and possible complications. Trainings will also be given regarding how to approach a patient, doing history taking and doing physical examination on patients. As the participants are about to approach their patients, each patient is going to be assessed through a set of questionnaires for personal needs regarding the disease.
SCOPH On the second day, every SCOPHeroes will be asked to start approaching their patients. Throughout the day, the leprosy patients will be asked to follow a set of activities regarding health education. Some of them may include seminaries, talkshows, personal peer education, and more. During this day, the participants will also get a set of trainings from the National Public Health Committee about leadership, project management, community development, project publishing, public relation, and fundraising. On the last day, all patients will be evaluated through their level of knowledge. There will also be a set of closing activities before all the delegates are going home. By the end of the project, we hope to see several achievements brought home by
INDONESIA DISEASE TODAY PAGE 40 the delegates and leprosy patients. First, we would like to see an improvement in quality and communication of SCOPH CIMSA members. Second, we hope to raise the awareness and increase the knowledge of all the delegates and villagers towards leprosy. Third, we would like to see an improvement in the quality of life of leprosy patients and change the nation’s perspective towards leprosy. Along with our dream to run this huge event, we would like to work with Direktorat Jenderal Penyebaran Penyakit dan Pengendalian Lingkungan as a main contributor and also a supervisor towards this project. We hope through this event, we can support East Java to live a healthier life and to eliminate leprosy.
