A DRAMATIC REBIRTH HAS TRANSFORMED CINCINNATI USA’S DOWNTOWN CORE, AND THE CITY IS MORE DESIRABLE THAN EVER.
G
azing upon downtown Cincinnati USA from atop one of the many overlooks on the bucolic hills gently rising on three sides of the city, one sees a vibrant, thriving basin. Indeed, the city is sort of a bowl formed by the hills and the Ohio River. The central basin that is Cincinnati USA has been a mixing bowl, a cultural stew where ingredients have simmered for 200 years to produce the best the heartland has to offer—a central urban core thriving in commerce, a first-rate convention center, an explosion in hotel construction and a scene rich with fine arts and popular entertainment, including world-class restaurants, nightlife, a casino and a vibrant public gathering spot at Fountain Square. Historically, that mixing bowl became a rich stew of riverboats, a parade of pigs from the Ohio farmland, immigrants (especially German), and a key symbol of hope on the Underground Railroad. Most recently, Cincinnati USA has experienced a decade-long dramatic rebirth

in the central city. That downtown renaissance includes a makeover of historic Over-the-Rhine, a creative explosion in the culinary scene, parks lining the riverfront and breweries. Then there are the city’s longtime treasures, ranging from the worldclass Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Museum Center to the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, with their stadiums lining the river at the city’s “front door.” All of this makes Cincinnati USA 800.543.2613 and CincyUSA.com
a desirable destination for convention attendees and travelers.
YOU CAN WALK IT ALL The central downtown is compact. For example, there are more than 3,200 hotel rooms in a three-block walk from the Duke Energy Convention Center. Also, 80 eateries are within a short walking distance. On a 15-minute stroll from the convention center and center city, one will find a diversity of entertain-

ment, cultural arts and meeting spots rarely found in a Midwest city. All it takes is a 10-minute walk north from the central downtown to reach Over-the-Rhine, where a remarkable makeover of one of the region’s historically rich neighborhoods brought about intriguing shops, restaurants, and breweries like Christian Moerlein, Rhinegeist and Taft’s Ale House, celebrating the heritage of the German immigrants who first settled in the neighborhood. Heading south toward the river, one can soak up The Banks, the mixed-use riverfront development, along with Smale Park, which features bike rentals, lawn and tree groves for picnics, and a Cincinnati-themed carousel with animal characters that speak to the history of the city. Walking east you will find the world of gaming at the Horseshoe Casino.

Another thing one will find on that walk is the openhearted friendliness of Cincinnatians, proud of a vibrant pro-business downtown. If you’re not up for a walk, another way to navigate downtown is on a Red Bike, the bike-sharing program with stands throughout downtown, and on the new streetcar, opening in September 2016, which will run from historic Findlay Market through the central downtown to the riverfront.

One of the newest event spaces at the Zoo is the Africa Overlook and Basecamp Cafe. The construction of the exhibit and restaurant was executed with a green agenda, including the reuse of as much of the existing restaurant structure as possible to reduce waste. MEETING PLANNER
TOOLBOX F
rom technology needs and hotel accommodations to meals and leisure activities, the services team at the Cincinnati USA CVB is here to help you plan your event. The services department has won 21 Pinnacle Awards and 22 M&C Gold Service Awards for its success managing and planning events in Cincinnati USA. On the following pages you can browse some of the local businesses that provide valuable services. First, CVB team members share what’s important to them when planning a successful event.
MAKING A PLAN SCHEDULE PLANNING/ SITE VISIT DATES
The Convention Services team can let you know which dates are available and about any conflicts with other events or conventions in town at that time. They can also help you with your itinerary.
2
CONTACTING VENDORS
The CS team can send out RFPs to vendors on your behalf and even help you determine what you’ll need for your convention. For example, in Cincinnati, buses and transportation aren't always necessary because many hotels are within walking distance, but our team can still help you coordinate transportation if you have off-site events or receptions. We can help you save money.
3
CUSTOM WEB PAGES
We can create custom Cincinnati web pages for your group that highlight specific events, attractions and hotel registration, all specific to a group’s demographic. 800.543.2613 and CincyUSA.com

“I am all about integrating the wow factor for attendees, which only adds value to their conference experience. It also exposes them to the amazing offerings Cincinnati has and hopefully encourages them to come back for a visit.” —Jessica Hobler
As you start to envision your meeting or event, here are seven details to consider. Our Convention Services team can help you cross these to-dos from your list.
1
9,15
4
PRE/POST CONVENTION MEETINGS
It’s important to schedule these in advance.
5
OFF-SITE/ UNIQUE VENUES
Similar to vendors, some unique spaces that work for one group may not work for others. By providing specific requirements and information to the CS Manager, she can help you find a venue that works best for your needs.
6
REGISTRATION/ STAFFING/ COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS
Our CS managers can help you coordinate all of these.
7
“There was an event that utilized 53 hotels and three venues, and we used 162 motor-coaches. I was able to bring together the transportation company, Cincinnati Police, CVB and planner to coordinate seamless flow without disrupting normal downtown traffic.” —Pam Boeing-Rogers
“I encourage brainstorming sessions with [clients] to discover creative ideas that can take their experience in Cincinnati to the next level. For example, I once brought in Shakespearean thespians to act as live directionals in lieu of traditional volunteers or staff members. It was an unexpected delighter and the attendees loved it.” —Jessica Hobler
DETERMINING TIMELINE
You’ll need to determine the timeline for planning your event. Starting early helps to ensure it’s a success.
