COMMUNICATE COLLABORATE CREATE

Greetings! Cincinnati Opera is excited to engage with our community by creating opportunities for youth to have positive and meaningful experi ences with opera. Our aim is to be a powerful partner in our local schools by enhancing the curriculum to extend learning and be a true value-add to the instructional process. There is a vast amount of research that supports the benefits of arts programming in schools, including higher standardized test scores, increased graduation rates, higher enrollment in college bachelor’s degree programs, and greater student involvement in the community.

Our programs are designed to be flexible to accommodate various class room sizes and versatile school schedules.

Cincinnati Opera seeks to use our art form to encourage critical thinking, creative expression, and collaboration. We hope to inspire students to ex plore their aesthetic appreciation and help them prepare for success in their future professional careers. We are excited to share our multidisci plinary art form with you and your students in new and diverse ways. Please join us in the endeavor to provide enriching experiences and new avenues for learning.

We look forward to connecting with you soon!

OPERA AND

OPERA AND ORANGES

Preschool; Ages 3–5

Let’s share a story and a healthy snack! In this program designed for preschool-aged children, we will read an opera storybook and bring along a special musical guest, who will perform and interact with the children through song. Our aim is to nurture their love for books and music. And yes, we will also bring something nutritious and delicious! (We will coordinate with the classroom teacher on snack selection.) Cincinnati Opera presents this program to support the positive impact that exposure to music and eating healthy foods has on a child’s growth and development. It’s going to be a scrumptious fun time!

OPERA STORYBOOK HOUR

Grades

It’s story time with Cincinnati Opera! We are delighted to offer this interactive program featuring stories based on the art form of opera. Cincinnati Opera teaching artists will read an opera storybook and sing and/or play recordings of operatic selections. The students will be led in a craft activity following the story. For example, with The Magic Flute, students will create their own Papageno and Papagena masks (a bird catcher and his bride). Our teaching artist will engage students with questions about key ideas and details to ensure their understanding of the story. A fun and creative experience!

FIERCE

Be FIERCE! In the summer of 2022, Cincinnati Opera presented the world-premiere of Fierce, which focuses on the lives of four teenage girls as they navigate through a time of social media, college admissions, grief, and friendship. Cincinnati Opera is thrilled to share this spectacular opera with your school. Our FIERCE Residency encourages young people to discover what makes them fierce. Participants will have the opportunity to watch a video of a Fierce performance, participate in writing workshops and group discussions, and engage in Q&A sessions with the Fierce creative team, opera artists, and much more.
