From shopping centers and malls that satisfy any need, to local and chain restaurants that serve fast- to exotic food, to entertainment destinations that range from thrilling roller coasters to peaceful floats down scenic rivers, the North certainly has it all. The North Region is a Focal Point for Growth J

ust what is the North? It’s the growing area at the focal point of the Cincinnati-Dayton megalopolis, the network of large and small communities evolving into a single urban area between the cities of Cincinnati and Dayton. It’s roughly defined by the editors of Cincy Magazine as the area north of state Route 126/Ronald Regan Highway in Hamilton County and south of state Route 122 across Butler and Warren counties. That’s just geography. The North is also where thousands of people live, work and play. It includes some of southwest Ohio’s fastest-growing communities such as West Chester Township, the city of Mason and Deerfield Township and some of its oldest communities such as the city of Hamilton (named for Alexander Hamilton and founded in 1791) and the city of Lebanon (which dates from 1802). It includes thousands of small- and medium-sized businesses and some of the region’s largest and best-known employers such as Procter & Gamble Co., GE Aviation, the Kroger Co. and Anthem BlueCross BlueShield Ohio. It is home to the growing “Health Care Highway” along Interstate 75 with new facilities by some of the region’s largest health-care providers such as the Christ Hospital Health Network, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Premier Health’s Atrium Medical Center and UC Health’s West Chester Hospital. It’s also home to the regional campuses of Miami University, Sinclair Community College’s Mason center and vocational education centers such as Butler Tech, Great Oaks Career campuses and the Warren County Career Center. The North also offers a variety of retail and entertainment options such as Miami Valley Gaming and King’s Island to Jungle Jim’s International Market in Fairfield and Liberty Center, the multiuse community in Liberty Township. n 6

uality, exceptional service and an unparalleled atmosphere have made Eddie Merlot’s one of America’s great steakhouses! But who is Eddie Merlot? Bill Humphries, founder of Eddie Merlot’s, is a well-known wine connoisseur. In fact, Bill’s talent for choosing appropriate dinner wine was one of his responsibilities as a board member for a worldwide corporation. At one such dinner, Ed, a new member, asked Bill to surprise him with a great wine. When the wine—a Merlot—was served Ed was exceedingly impressed and told Bill, “From now on, always order the Merlot.” “And from now on,” Bill replied, “you’re Eddie Merlot.” To this day, that’s what Ed’s fellow board members call him. Eddie Merlot’s is an homage to the man and his love of a great steak, a great glass of wine and a good story. You are welcomed to Eddie Merlot’s in the same spirit! They strive to offer nothing but the best— which is why they go to such lengths to serve you the exceptional prime aged steaks upon which the restaurant has built its reputation. The chef carefully selects the freshest and finest ingredients available in the preparation of classic and unique creations. They start with U.S.D.A. Prime beef. Only 2 percent of all U.S. beef is awarded this superior certification. They age it naturally for a minimum of 21 days, to an exceptional standard of tenderness and flavor. The chef then personally selects each piece for the optimum proportion of marbling and texture before hand-cutting and seasoning the thick, tender, and juicy steaks to your specifications. Eddie Merlot’s features a wide variety of hors d’oeuvres, entrees, desserts and accompaniments complemented by the finest wines and cocktails.
