Type Poster // To ADverTise THe TYpeFACe Bodoni is a series of serif typefaces first designed by Giambattista Bodoni in 1798. It ended with a typeface of narrower underlying structure with flat, unbracketed serifs, extreme contrast between thick and thin strokes, and an overall geometric construction. To show the interesting geometric shapes of the fonts, I use diagonal composition and the cutout shapes of the numbers.
Font used: Bodoni, 7pt, 12 pt, 22pt, 36 pt, 72pt, 110 pt,

Type Poster // Develop a comprehensive design The objective is to recognize negative and positive shapes within letterforms to emphasize relational interaction and form. Specific letter forms and words create unique opportunity for visual tension and asymmetrical balance. Bodoni is recognized with extreme contrast between thick and thin strokes and the geometric construction. In all the alphabets, “J shows the most interesting curved and contrast. I put R and J together, they formed a beautiful organic shape which shows the relationship between negative and positive shapes. In my design, I applied elements including visual hierarchy , figure/ground relationship, and readability and legibility. Both designs include an exploration into color. These color designs highlight near complementary scheme with green and reddish pink.

// KArA wAlKer Kara Walker is a contemporary African American artist who explores race, gender, sexuality, violence and identity in her work by using black cut-paper silhouettes. At first sight, Walker’s works seem beautiful and happy, but then the audiences will realize the violence and the upset her works want to convey. By contrasting white background and black silhouettes, I want to display the delicate and the boldness Walker’s works give us. On the cover, the woman is holding her head which also shaped like Africa map.

Postcard // To promoTe no nUKes Learning from the history of the meltdown of Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power plant, many Taiwanese start to realize the danger of nuclear power. To demand the government stop allocating funding for a fourth nuclear power plant in New Taipei City, I illustrated a giant monster to represent the nuclear power plant and it is out of control. When human create something dangerous and risky, do we have the confident to control it all the time?

Aquarium // For AQUAriUm oF THe pACiFiC Aquarium is a space which give people an opportunity to experience, to enjoy, and to know the marine animals. By using the descriptive terminology “live“ to describe aquarium, I get the conceptual translation “to experience or enjoy life to the full.“ It gives me an idea to paint a submarine with a shape of fish that can bring children to the ocean. That is aquarium all about, a place to adventure and explore these amazing species that are different than us.

// For AQUAriUm oF THe pACiFiC By using the descriptive terminology “observe”. I get the conceptual translation “to see, watch, perceive, or notice.“ That is what people do in the aquarium, to see and to explore those amazing marine creatures. The idea is making blowfish become a hot balloon that can ride children to an exciting adventure in an unknown world, so the children can see and experience more.

// For AQUAriUm oF THe pACiFiC By using the descriptive terminology “exhibit“ to describe aquarium, I get the meaning of “to present in a public exhibition or contest.“ Therefore, I think of the paintings in the art museums and galleries. To connect both ideas, I put a fish in a frame to show that it is being displayed.
