Best of De regels van Floor

In Floor Rules, headstrong Floor tries to answer the major questions in life. What if you are sent to an anti-bullying course with your bully? Or if your best friend starts dating a dweeb? How do you get rid of an annoying babysitter? How do you provide a treat that will blow everyone away? And how do you track down the sender of a mysterious Valentine’s Day gift? Floor faces a number of tough choices, but always manages to come up with an original solution. Because the rules are generally thought up by adults, but in Floor’s opinion, kids are perfectly capable of making up their own.

In Best of Floor Rules we look back at four seasons of the VPRO series. The actors and directors will answer questions, provide a look behind the scenes and look ahead to season five of this popular series.

Pre-schoolers Workshop Anansi

Kleuterworkshop Anansi

During this workshop children will engage with the centuries-old folk tales about the spider Anansi, who always outsmarts his enemies. If you aren’t strong, you must be smart. The fairy tales originated in Western Africa and are famous in Surinam, on the Netherlands Antilles and in the Caribbean in general. They are passed down from generation to generation, undergoing minor modifications all the time.

Toddlers will play with that concept during this workshop that centres on the story of Anansi the Spider and the Greedy Tiger. The latter has appeared in book form which the children will reconstruct using point-and-tell sheets and they will act out a few brief scenes. A green screen will be used to transport the children to Anansi’s world. The scenes will be videoed and then edited together, creating a proper film.

Sara’s Mysteries Shorts By Kids

In this podcast, Sara de Monchy solves mysteries in cooperation with children and they get really obsessed about them. Every episode a child calls in Sara’s help to solve a mystery. For example, there’s the mysterious wallet that was found in the ground. Who does it belong to? And where does that strange hatch in the school’s floor lead? Whether she must break in, spy, dig or investigate: Sara will do anything it takes to find out.

Podcaster Sara de Monchy aims to bring children closer to the mysterious adult world. Children sometimes catch a glimpse of this mysterious adult world, she told the VPRO TV and Radio listings guide, e.g. when parents suddenly stop talking when a child enters the room. That mystery became the starting point for this podcast intended for both children and parents. Many of the productions showing at Cinekid are made for children by adults. But we’ve known for a long time now that children can make their own films – often with surprisingly good, creative results. Cinekid offers a professional platform for these young filmmakers.

A selection of the most striking submissions will première at the festival. A jury made up of media professionals will then select a winner from these, and the maker of the best film will take home a Cinekid Lion award. While the jury are deliberating, a selection of short films from the Cinekid Competition will screen.
