Collaborating pioneer

I’m a Civil & Environmental Engineer from Florida Institute of Technology. I used to design and build oil and gas installations around the world. I discovered hemp 5 years ago. The company provides engineering services, project formulation and project execution plans preparation to the Australia-Asia region. This includes cost estimates, schedules and cash flow preparation, contract preparation, construction methodology proposal and the proper advice to help our client with cost effective solutions. I also deliver educational Expos, and broadcast Hemp shows.

What most interests you about hemp and hemp building, and why?

Hemp caught my attention because of the potential technologies that can be developed and implemented as specific answers to global problems. It is our vision to use hemp technologies to build cities completely out of this plant and support this goal using our hemp battery technologies. Ramon Granados, Founder and CEO, Hemp Engineering Pty Ltd., Biomass Engineering Pty Ltd and Green Tigers Journal Pty Ltd.

What is something about hemp building/construction/processing you didn’t know a year ago?

It is part of Hemp Engineering’s dedication to keep up with developing technologies. A year ago, I was wondering how to bring Robert Ziner’s Artificial Intelligence Hemp Factories and Carl Martel’s technologies to our projects. This dream has manifested with engineering projects to be built very soon.

What challenges does the hemp building industry face that it must overcome in the next five years?

What was a win for your organization in the past year?

“The number one challenge is to align standards and procedures within this emerging industry. This is absolutely crucial to engage the financial and Insurance sectors.”

Ramon Granados, founder and CEO, Hemp Engineering Pty LTD

We have been very fortunate to deliver to our clients three engineering projects for clients in Malaysia, Thailand, and Laos. Hemp Engineering is about to lead a 130 m2 extension for a house in Sydney, NSW, Australia. We are also involved as consultants in Projects in Argentina, Colombia and Puerto Rico. We have a small Biochar operation in Uruguay to support our Hemp Battery project. There are extraordinary individual efforts across the globe. Nonetheless, our industry is very tiny with lots of prejudice and stigma. All countries that legalised hemp are pursuing the same purpose: whole plant utilisations. So this is a technological race rather than a commercial competition. Therefore, understanding the magnitude of projects will help many pioneers to collaborate rather than competing. The number one challenge is to align standards and procedures within this emerging industry. This is absolutely crucial to engage the financial and Insurance sectors.

The second challenge is to develop a strong supply chain that can warranty building demands across the world.

And from our perspective, another challenge is to educate the architectural and engineering sectors, being the ones who will lead large project delivery.
