One of our participants, Malcolm Bennett took this lovely composed photo. The stillness of the hot weather, and the elements evenly placed in the frame makes this photo beautifully balanced.
We took our first Photography Walk and ventured to Wormholt Park in White City. It was a hot day, but our spirit was heightened by being in a green space and using our creative expression to document the area. Through ongoing discussions, we decided to take photos of the green spaces left in contrast to the urban development taking place in White City.

One of our weekly sessions entailed 'how to take group photos' exercises. Inspired by the work of Dorothea Lange porch group photos we had our own version at the Nubian Life Resource Centre in White City. This is a wonderful photo taken by Clare, one of our beneficiaries. We have all being drawn by the great composition and the mood of the participants in the frame.

A beautiful set of images and poem by Avril, who has been working on documenting trees as a source of inspiration, strength and poetry.

Living Life as a tree
Admiring the different colours of seasonal leaves the enjoyment of being surrounded by nature the tree suggested I leave my world of connection and obsession with speed, internet and fast food and learn patience
What could I accomplish if I took the time I’m like you weathering storms and all different kinds of weather that come my way
Asked to find any tree, to be still, taking in the quiet and noticing my feelings and observations
I once had a conversation with a tree Who told me ‘that people that stare at my roots photograph the bark and the branches thought I had no emotions or feelings’
©Avril
Our ridges of bark and veins of leaves are fingerprints distinctive to each trunk and branch as each one is different
Trees stand full of pride
We heal ourselves to move forward You know our mature trees assist with smaller trees in Their neigbourhood by using underground fungal Networks to transfer water, carbon and other resources
Each tree is unique
Roots are our foundation, we are all grounded Our roots spread
Spring is a time for growth and openness You can be open too at your own pace

Bringing together individuals and groups walking, birdwatching, nature trails , and children’s activities
Trees strengthen communities
We are the longest living species on earth and give a link between the past, present and future
Look closely and observe all the shades of green leaves and different textures in London, growing in the Royal Parks
We all love to be nurtured and looked after Surrounded by love and nature ©Avril
