Marta Carceller
Immersed In Fantastic Worlds
Acrylic on wood 100 x 100 cm
“My artwork, very far from any trend or fashion, is a testimony of my experiences and my deepest intimacy, and it explains part of my personal history. With the help of paint, brushes, spatulas, canvas, and wood as support I can capture and externalize all of this and transform it into an external to me object lasting over time.” www.martacarcellerart.com
Marta Carceller, a prominent Catalan visual artist born in 1977, balances her creative life with her role as a mother of four. Operating from a quaint studio in her hometown of Sabadell, near Barcelona, Carceller’s journey in the arts is as vibrant as her heritage.
Initially embarking on an academic path in music, Carceller’s interests later pivoted towards Psychology, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Ramón Llull University. She further expanded her academic pursuits with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the same institution, and later, studies in Clinical Hypnosis at the University of Barcelona and Coaching at the University of La Coruña. This eclectic educational background has profoundly shaped her artistic lens, providing a rich tapestry of emotions to explore and depict in her work.
Despite being a self-taught painter, Carceller’s passion for art has been a lifelong affair. Over time, she has increasingly devoted herself to her art, finding both joy and fulfillment in this pursuit. The untimely demise of her husband marked a significant turn in her life, intensifying her commitment to art as a means of personal expression and healing. His enduring support continues to inspire her artistic endeavors.
The isolation brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic became an unexpected catalyst for Carceller’s art. With renewed motivation and the encouragement of her children and partner, Alex, she fully embraced her artistic career.
Today, Marta Carceller’s work is internationally recognized, celebrated in various Contemporary Art Awards, and featured across numerous global platforms. Her creations have adorned exhibitions, fairs, and galleries from Spain to France, the United States, Japan, and beyond, showcasing her unique ability to touch hearts and provoke thought through her art.

“My paintings are primarily oil and watercolor on paper. I paint figures that are linked through gesture, intention, and proximity and explore human bodies as archives of meaning, with a focus on body language as a signifier of desire, longing and absence. These works draw from the body and the environment interweaving figural representations with spatial disruptions created through the emotive, material and psychological use of color and shapes.”
