Polygons For Kids

Polygons For Kids Polygons For Kids A polygon is traditionally a plane figure that is bounded by a closed path, composed of a finite sequence of straight line segments (i.e., by a closed polygonal chain). These segments are called its edges or sides, and the points where two edges meet are the polygon's vertices (singular: vertex) or corners. An n-gon is a polygon with n sides. The interior of the polygon is sometimes called its body. A polygon is a 2-dimensional example of the more general polytope in any number of dimensions. The basic geometrical notion has been adapted in various ways to suit particular purposes. Mathematicians are often concerned only with the closed polygonal chain and with simple polygons which do not self-intersect, and may define a polygon accordingly. Geometrically two edges meeting at a corner are required to form an angle that is not straight (180°); otherwise, the line segments will be considered parts of a single edge – however mathematically, such corners may sometimes be allowed.

In fields relating to computation, the term polygon has taken on a slightly altered meaning derived from the way the shape is stored and manipulated in computer graphics (image generation). Some other generalizations of polygons are described below. Enclosed flat figures made up of lines which are straight are called as Polygon. Here flat means that figure is two dimensional. Straight lines in definition are also called as segments. Polygons are called enclosed because all line segments fit at end Point with each other and it has no opening point. Those figure which are not enclosed are not considered in category of polygons. Any figure having at least three sides and three angles is considered as polygon. Now we will see Polygons for kids. Different kinds of Polygons for kids are: Common polygons are Square, rectangles and Triangles. Polygons are named on basis of total number of sides. Some examples are: <<--<<--<<--<<---

Triangle- Three sides Pentagon- Five sides Octagon- Eight Sides Decagon- Ten Sides

Types of polygons are: 1. Simple Polygons: In these Types of Polygons line segments do not intersect each other.

2. Complex Polygons: In these type of polygons lines or sides intersect with each other. 3. Concave polygons: A polygon in which one angle is always more than 180 degree. 4. Convex polygons: If every interior angle of polygon is less than 180 degree than polygon is a convex polygon. Parts of Polygon: Side: Line segments which make polygon an enclosed figure. Vertex: Points in the figure where sides of the polygon meet Interior Angle: Inside angles which are formed when two adjacent sides of polygon meet each other. Exterior Angle: Exterior angle is formed when two adjacent sides of polygon meet each other.
