CIS Library A Quick Review of 2012-2013 Highlights The library has a collection of 20,845 titles which include print books, e-books, videos, audiobooks, 14 online databases and 6 Kindles. The library is open 24/ 7 through our dynamic Website providing access to our catalog, and guiding learners through the research guide and subject specific pathfinders. The new City Campus library opened in August with a collection of 2,000 books, videos and magazines, a study and working area as well as a ’hang out’ area. The librarian is there twice a week and volunteers are there the rest of the time. A comfy area with nice sofas and carpet was created in the main library in Hellerup. It has been big hit with students and teachers! Sarah Jørgensen has joined the staff as a library assistant. Sarah worked at the Primary School library until April, when she went on maternity leave. Anuradha Chander is replacing Sarah for the period of her maternity leave. The ”no food” rule was broken in the library! We started the ”Book Lunch” with students from grades 5 and 6. Once a week, during lunch time, students are eating lunch in the library as they listen to books read by the library staff. It’s been such a success that we are planning to offer the Book Lunch to grades 4 and 7 next year.

Library Snapshot The library offers: 4,029 Fiction books (Gr.412)

The book week in November culminated with the visit of the author and illustrator Simon Murray who gave many exciting presentations on how to draw and taught the kids how to draw his famous character, Icky Doo Dah. During the book week, the primary school students also had special guest readers during their weekly library visit.

Our international collection is growing with the help of PTA! We now have separate collections in Spanish, Dutch, Chinese and Japanese, besides the Danish, German, French and Swedish. Our International collection also has books in many other languages as well as bilingual books.

Staff members from Malmö International School, Sweden, came to visit us in May. They are setting up a library and wanted to get some inspiration from our library. They were well impressed with the library and the school as a whole.

Curriculum & Instruction The librarian collaborated with teachers providing library orientation and research sessions in the three programs. ography & citation for the Personal Project. The library supervised two students doing the Personal Project, and met students individually to guide their research process. Grade 11 Humanities had an introduction to information resources and bibliography & citation for the Extended Essay. The librarian is meeting individually with many of the students to support their research, both helping finding relevant sources of information and teaching bibliography & citation. Grade 11 students also had the opportunity to visit Gentofte Library in the spring to get to know their resources.

Our summer reading program for the Primary School, The Bookworm Club Challenge 2013 has launched! Students who complete the program will receive a certificate and a book.
