In 1992 Gem Melville, a South African born artist, established a textile community project with Zulu women called Pakhamani ('to uplift'). In doing so she became part of a movement focussed on training and job creation firstly as a textile co-operative, later as an NGO. This photo book compiled by Stephanie Mills charts some of the works by a remarkable group of women.
