CITY EVENTS Large city-wide events for the whole family
Celebrating life in Broomfield with your family, friends and neighbors is important, this year more than ever. Community events give everyone the opportunity to have fun and feel festive even if celebrations look a little different this year.
Broomfield’s summer-time community events traditionally include BrewHaHa at Arista and the Great American Picnic and Fireworks on July 4th. This year, as COVID-19 guidelines continue to evolve, these events will be re-designed to offer celebrations that follow official guidance from state and local health officials. Check Broomfield.org for the latest information on these events.

BROOMFIELD TRAIL ADVENTURE
Saturday, June 5, 2021 Broomfield invites all trail users to come celebrate National Trails Day with the 20th annual Broomfield Trail Adventure! Each year this event features a different location and new sections of the local trail system for users to walk, bike, or jog. For 2021, the event will be self-guided due to ongoing COVID protocols, but specific trail routes will be planned with interpretive features and educational materials to make the experience fun for anyone! While on the trail, join Broomfield’s iNaturalist page to find as many animals and plants as you can! For additional information, visit Broomfield.org/ TrailAdventure.

GOALS At the City and County of Broomfield, environmental sustainability is a focal point of long-term social, economic, and environmental health. The goal is to create a community that meets resident goals for energy, water conservation, local food and agriculture, business sustainability, and multi-modal transportation. Broomfield City Council and ACES (Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability) are working with the Department of Strategic Initiatives to develop the following two plans: GHG (GREENHOUSE GA S ) EMISSI O NS REDUCTI O N P LA N The Broomfield City Council took bold leadership action in adopting Resolution No. 2020-169, setting these GHG reduction targets: ● 30% by 2025 ● 60% by 2030 ● 80% by 2040 ● 90% by 2045 ● 100% by 2050

ZERO WASTE PLAN As proposed by ACES and adopted by City Council, the following are Broomfield’s goals with regard to Zero Waste: ● 50% diversion by 2025 ● 100% diversion by 2030

SWIM TEAMS As we wait for wide-spread vaccination, it's unclear what to anticipate in 2021. What you can expect are precautions in place, and new and unique programs to maintain a healthy body and mind. Conditions can change quickly; visit B-REx.com and use the search terms listed below to find all the most up-to-date and available programs.
WATER FITNESS CLASSES Get a well rounded, low-impact cardio workout while focusing on strength training in a variety of water fitness classes. Swim skills are not required, though participants must be comfortable in the water. Classes include water aerobics, deep water aerobics, Arthritis/therapy class, river running/circuit training. LIFEGUARD TRAINING The American Red Cross Lifeguarding class combines classroom and online learning. Successful candidates will receive an American Red Cross certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED, and First Aid and learn the duties and responsibilities of becoming a Professional Lifeguard. Requirements: candidates must be 15 years of age by the end of the class; pass prerequisite skills before the first day of class; attend all sessions; complete online modules prior to the start of class. SCUBA CERTIFICATION CLASSES Experience the fun of scuba diving in this one-weekend course. This class includes all academic and pool training to prepare you for open water dives. Find Swim Teams at B-REx.com. Search: Swim Team CARA YOUTH SWIM TEAM Introduce your child to swim competition. Emphasis is placed on learning and improving strokes, building endurance, and creating a fun, structured team atmosphere. Prerequisites: previous CARA experience, completion of Dolphin Level or pass swim test (25 yds freestyle and backstroke.) Age: 7-18 MASTERS SWIM TEAM Join the COMSA masters team where beginning swimmers and seasoned athletes master their goals! This program provides organized workouts and skill improvement for all abilities. Participants should have an understanding of the basic strokes and be able to swim for approx. 30 minutes. Age: 15+ FRONT RANGE BARRACUDA SWIM TEAM The Front Range Barracudas (Cudas) non-profit swim club is a yearround United States competitive swim team. Certified coaches offer instruction to all ages and abilities in a fun, safe environment. There are several different groups/ teams based upon the swimmer's ability level. The American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim program provides a safe, fun environment for your child to learn the fundamentals of swimming as well as learn self confidence, personal development, and water safety; a lifetime skill that can enhance your child’s life. PARENT-CHILD SWIM LESSONS Parent participation is required in the water. Only one child per adult; however, both parents may attend class with one or two children. The instructor will be in the water, teaching both the parent and the child. This class is designed to teach the fundamentals of swimming and water safety skills. Max of 6 parent/ child participants per class. Age: 6 mo-3
BEGINNING LEVEL I/II SCHOOL AGE SWIM LESSONS This class is designed to teach children the fundamentals of swimming and water safety skills. Skills learned include floats, kicks, beginning armstrokes and backstroke, and breath control. Max of 6 participants per class. Age: 6-13
BEGINNING PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS This class is designed to teach children the fundamentals of swimming and water safety skills. Skills learned include floating, kicks, beginning armstrokes, and breath control. If parents are more comfortable, they may also get in and attend the class. Max of 4 participants per class. Age: 4-6 ADVANCED PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS This class is designed to teach children stroke development, technique, coordination, and water safety skills. Skills learned include rhythmic breathing, front and back stroke, kicking, endurance and confidence. If parents are more comfortable, they may also get in and attend the class. Max of 4 participants per class. Age: 4-6
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL III SCHOOL AGE SWIM LESSONS This class is designed to teach children stroke development, technique, coordination, and water safety skills. Skills learned include rhythmic breathing, front and back stroke, intro to breaststroke, kicking, and coordination of movement. Max of 6 participants per class. Age: 7-13 ADVANCED LEVEL IV/V SCHOOL AGE SWIM LESSONS This class is designed to teach children stroke development, technique, coordination, and water safety skills. Skills learned include freestyle refinement, backstroke and breaststroke, and intro to butterfly, diving, turns, endurance and confidence. Max of 8 participants per class. Age: 7-13
TEEN/ADULT SWIM LESSONS This class will be goal based. Instructors will work with each participant individually or in small groups to help meet your goals and help you feel more capable and confident in the water. Class will help beginners as well as the more advanced swimmers. Conquer your fear of the water, develop your strokes, start training for a triathlon, or become a more efficient fitness swimmer. Age: 13+ PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS Private lessons give individuals an opportunity to work in a one-on-one setting with an instructor. Participants get a chance to work on technique and receive individual feedback and attention. Semi-private lessons are also available (must be siblings or friends and sign up together). All lessons are 25 minutes in length. Age: 3+ DIVING CLASS This diving class is designed for beginning and intermediate levels of springboard diving. Beginners will be taught the fundamentals of diving including body alignment, approach, and basic dives. Intermediate divers will work on flexibility and strength as well as more advanced diving skills. Prerequisites: Must be able to swim independently. Age: 7-18

EARLY LEARNING SUMMER CAMP Early Learning Summer Camp is a preschool program for children ages 3 – 5 years which is licensed by the State of Colorado. As a level five rated Colorado Shines program through the state of Colorado, all instructors have a background in education and experience working in a preschool classroom setting. They are educated professionals who provide a quality program for the children.
EARLY LITTLE LEARNERS PLUS This class is an extended class for preschool children. The fun summer themes place emphasis on playing and having fun with friends. Games, crafts, science projects, math, and outside fun will be included. Make sure you wear your sunscreen! Children must be toilet trained and not in diapers or pull-ups to be eligible for this class. Age: 3-4

Z E R O WA S T E “Throwing away” a piece of trash seems like the end of the story, but a complex system of collection, distribution, reuse, and eventual disposal is only the beginning for a discarded item. Landfill waste produces greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change and impact our local air quality. Improperly disposed hazardous materials can threaten our water quality while representing an economic loss of valuable materials. This represents a significant environmental, public health and economic opportunity.

FIX-IT (HANDYMAN PROGRAM BY CULTIVATE)
Are you providing care for someone 60+ in Broomfield County? Find out how this program might be able to assist you with no-cost, temporary, in-home services. The respite program provides non-medical care for family members and/or regular caregivers who need a short-term break. Qualifications are based on need. T R A N S P O R TAT I O N Transportation represents 42% of Broomfield’s Greenhouse Gas emissions, and is expected to increase as our county reaches its projected 26% growth rate by 2027. An integrated and well connected multi-modal transportation system allows residents, employees, and visitors the choice of how to travel; walking, cycling, driving, carpooling, or riding public or private transportation. B ROOMFIELD’S CURRENT EFFO RT S IN T RA N S P O RTAT IO N ● Installed two dual-port level II charging stations on municipal property ● Created the 2016 Transportation Plan highlighting the importance of Electric Vehicles (EVs), alternative fuels, public transit, cycling, walking, and other carbon reduction strategies ● Support of transit options (Broomfield Easy Ride, the RTD FlexRide, Free Fare Summer program, and Flatiron Flyer Bus Rapid Transit service) ● Implemented the US 36 First & Final Mile Study priority recommendations (including bicycle parking shelters, and wayfinding signage) ● Implemented the 2019 Broomfield Bicycle & Pedestrian Assessment ● Collaborated in regional transportation planning

CHILD WATCH AT PAUL DERDA REC CENTER AND BROOMFIELD COMMUNITY CENTER
This service may be available to participants whose guardians are participating in open recreation center activities or programs and remain inside the recreation center. Check for current hours and availability, download a parent information handbook and reserve your childwatch spot at Broomfield.org/Childwatch. Reservations may be made online by appointment only.

Individuals on the waitlist will be contacted if spots become available and given first priority to added classes. All classes are subject to cancellation if the minimum enrollment is not met two business days prior to the first day of class. If you see a class offered in the program guide and would like to participate but need assistance, please let us know. VERIFICATION OF RESIDENCY
WHO QUALIFIES FOR A RESIDENT RATE? Any person owning taxable real or personal property or permanently residing within the City and County of Broomfield and can show verification. Those who wish to purchase any RESIDENT card or pass are required to show a photo ID and two of the following documents showing correct name, current date and current Broomfield address to “verify residency”: • Utility bill (phone or water bill) • Car registration • Voter registration card • Statement from major creditor • Recent Broomfield County tax notice • Rental contract/mortgage statement IF YOU WORK IN BROOMFIELD: You are eligible to receive the resident rate by showing proof of employment at a Broomfield business. This resident status is for the employee only and entitles the employee to receive resident rates for admissions, passes, punch cards and recreation programs but is not applicable toward facility rentals. Other family members do not qualify for resident rates/status. The following proof of employment must be presented to receive the resident rates: • A Photo ID and • Recent pay stub showing name and address of company (business cards are not accepted).
