BROOMFIELD OUT LOUD STORYTELLER AND ARTIST SPOTLIGHT EXHIBIT

January 4-March 29

Meet your neighbors and dive deep into the stories of Broomfielders in this spotlight exhibit drawn from the oral histories recorded for the Broomfield Out Loud project. With visuals, artistic representations, and quotes drawn from oral history recordings, these exhibits include pieces at both the Broomfield Depot Museum as well as at the Broomfield Library. DRAG QUEEN STORYTIME

Saturday, February 8

Miss Shirley will present a fun and inclusive storytime for all ages in the Broomfield Auditorium. Drag Queen Storytime helps kids learn to love and accept themselves and other people for who they are in all shapes, sizes and forms. Storytime will begin at 10:30 a.m. with time afterwards to meet and talk with Miss Shirley.

Join other readers to hear author Dan Santat discuss his National Book Award winning graphic novel, “A First Time for Everything,” a middle grade memoir based on his awkward middle school years and the trip to Europe that changed his life. A young people’s version of the citywide reading and discussion program that encourages kids and families to read the same book at the same time. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. No tickets required. Seating will be first come, first served until capacity is reached. Ages 10+ (Ages 12 and under with Adult)

Time to shop! What's your style? Vintage? Boho? Modern? Swap your donated items for something new to you today! It’s Prom Season 2025 and time for Broomfield Library’s annual prom swap! Skip the mall and opt for an eco-friendly way to shop for prom attire. Bring your unwanted (and clean) formal wear and/or accessories to the Broomfield Library and take a new-to-you dream outfit home. For each dress, suit, pair of shoes or accessory you donate, you receive credit to trade for a new-to-you item of the same category. Don’t have anything to donate? That's ok! All are welcome on shopping day to take home a new outfit. Donations accepted January 27 through March 8 at the 2nd floor Reference Desk.

Have a new sewing machine or an old one gathering dust at home? Bring your machine to inventHQ to learn sewing machine basics and how to use your machine. Skills covered will include threading a machine and winding a bobbin, selecting and customizing stitches and basic maintenance. Learn about native bees in the Front Range and build a native or wild bee house for your backyard using materials supplied by inventHQ. Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities presents SenufoInspired Mud Painting. Taking inspiration from textile based paintings created by the Senufo people of the northern Ivory Coast, students explore the symbolization of natural elements and repetitive pattern design as they create their own stylized mud paintings on cloth.

The beloved children’s tale, The Three Little Pigs comes to life in the form of “Mini Música” – an interactive, bilingual educational concert for young audiences.

Featuring a 16-piece orchestra and a narrator who dances and sings in English and Spanish, Mini Música is designed to engage young children through a musical telling of a classic children’s story.

ARTRAGEOUS ARTREACH

Join the City and County of Broomfield Arts and History division, in partnership with the City of Northglenn, for Artrageous Artreach! This dynamic 45-minute educational experience highlights the vital role of the arts through an interactive performance and engaging Q&A with a Professional Touring Troupe. Perfect for students ages 7-14, this program offers a fun, immersive way to explore the arts. Located at Parsons Theatre, 1 East Memorial Parkway in Northglenn. Schools interested in attending can reach out to the Arts and History team at ArtsAndHistory@Broomfield.org. Busing subsidies are available to support participation.

Come learn the basics of vegetable gardening in Colorado! This series will take you through a season of timely topics you can mirror in your home garden, while giving you hands-on practice in the Teaching Vegetable Garden at Brunner Farmhouse. A House Plant Swap is an event where community members can drop off a plant they no longer want, share cuttings of their own or trade with others. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

Colorado residents age 16 and older may obtain a free Broomfield Library card with both of the following:

• A Photo ID and

• Proof of current address (on a photo ID, a piece of first class mail or an account on your mobile phone)

Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to receive a library card. There is no residency requirement to participate in Library, Arts, History and CSU Extension programs.

FINE FREE

The Broomfield Library does not charge late fees. Additionally, there are no charges for lost or damaged children’s materials. If you have questions about what materials are included or what it means for your library account, please contact circulation@broomfield.org or call 720-887-2301.

inventHQ is expanding Friday Open Hours in 2025! Drop in at these times starting in January: Tuesday and Thursday: 2-7 p.m. Friday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday: Noon-5 p.m.

inventHQ is Broomfield Library's makerspace (6 Garden Center, 2nd Floor.) Drop in and learn how to use laser cutters, 3D printers, sewing and embroidery machines, vinyl cutters and more. Free and open to all experience levels.
