Choosing the right secondary school is one of the most important decisions a parent will make. At Fakenham Academy Norfolk we aim to provide a positive and supportive environment where young people achieve their potential. We believe every young person will reach their potential given an environment of mutual respect and shared responsibility. Our children have a right to be safe and happy at school and in turn we act robustly against any that disregard this ideal. Our belief is that all young people should experience education in its wildest possible sense, including excellence in the classroom and in public examinations, opportunities of extra-curricular activities and a strong link with the local community.

The transition from a primary school to a high school can feel very daunting. Personally, I came from a primary with lots of students, and even then, I was worried about starting high school. However, before moving to the Academy, there are plenty of events that give you an idea of what life is like at Fakenham Academy. These events turned my nerves into excitement and I couldn’t wait to start.
Moving from primary school to high school will always be an unnerving experience. At Fakenham our biggest aim is to minimize any major concerns before starting school in year 7, showing new students that there is nothing to worry about.
The Secret to Success
There is such a supportive and encouraging atmosphere throughout the school, which will ensure you feel the most comfortable during your transition period. By involving yourself in every subject it will make your time here much more enjoyable and worthwhile.
The secret to success is getting your ABC right.
Throughout your time in the school, you will no doubt be offered a range of opportunities and I highly recommend taking every one you get. Sport and music play a big role at the Academy, and you will get many chances to be part of both and feel like part of the school. There’s a range of sports to partake in, as well as the chance to learn an instrument and play in bands at concerts. The opportunities continue to extra curricular subjects such as Latin and educational trips. Take all the opportunities you can to get the most enjoyable experience out of the Academy. Fakenham Academy also has amazing facilities. There are things like, science rooms fitted with lab equipment, musical instruments and sports equipment. These facilities will continue to improve and there is so much to gain out of what the Academy has to offer you. We welcome you to our school and I cannot wait to see new, excited faces next year.
We also host a variety of different extracurricular activities and clubs to choose from. Sports clubs have always been a major part of Fakenham Academy, specialising in: badminton, rugby, netball and athletics. Giving you a chance to be part of a team and compete at county and regional levels. There is also many musical instruments you can choose to be taught, involving students in school bands which perform in end of term concerts. By having such a range of extracurricular activities, it is certain you will find countless opportunities waiting for you. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to come and find either any of the year 11 Ambassadors or teachers in and around the school. I have no doubt you will settle in and enjoy your time learning, progressing, making friends and growing in such a friendly and helpful community.
ABCDE!
Or in our case your We know that if you want to be successful you need to get the basics right all the time. We work hard to support students and parents in this aim.
Attendance We aim for all students to have 100% attendance. Only by being at school every day can young people absolutely be sure they are maximising their opportunities.
Behaviour
Dress code
Having the right behaviour for learning. Knowing when to actively listen, when to take part, when to contribute and get stuck in! We are proud of our ever-improving behaviour of students, as identified by Ofsted and many, many visitors to the Academy.
We are strict about this and we expect all people on our site and to and from school to look smart. Dress the part, feel the part, act the part - it is basic common sense.
Classwork Working very hard in class lessons and completing homework is a critical part of success. There are no short cuts to actual hard work and everyone really knows this. We will be there to support and challenge all the way though.
E
xpectations These are very high and we set aspirational targets for all students. But only the young people themselves can really commit to deciding that they will try their very hardest. Our expectation is that students will always do their best and push themselves out of their comfort zone.

Academic We are justly proud of our everimproving academic record which has seen the Academy move through and above National expectations in all areas. Students here achieve well and much better than in most schools or academies. The evidence backs this up and Ofsted have done so too in June 2015. English, mathematics and science form the core for all students work and they achieve significantly well in all these areas. Students’ results for the past six years have continued to improve and this is down to high expectations from all the staff and students, an aspiration to always be the very best and a confidence that try, try and try again will assist in being successful. For the past eleven years we have had students successfully gain places at Oxford or Cambridge and also many students who access universities across the country.
21st Century Communication/Learning New Sixth Form facilities ÂŁ750,000 was invested in our outstanding Sixth Form facilities which opened in September 2017.
At Fakenham Academy Norfolk we have taken 21st Century learning to the next level. We are a Google Referral School, one of only a handful in the country, and we take a collaborative and sharing approach in all we do.
All learners (students and staff alike) use Google Apps for Education in all its forms. Homework is set using Google classroom and many lessons have pre-learning provided by the teacher and then post-learning [homework] to reinforce the skills, knowledge and understanding explored.
Students can access their work online at any time using a variety of devices be these schoolprovided or home ones. For students here learning is constant and available at all times. This approach is breaking down the traditional barriers to learning.

Confidence & Resilience Students reach their potential when they are confident but challenged. From our first work with students when they come to us for Year 5/6 subject days right through to the age of 19, we aim to both support and challenge students. Only so much is learnt in actual lessons, much of what we as adults remember from our school days is due to how confident we felt at the time. Knowing it is fine to be wrong when answering questions, but being prepared to have a go, is very important. This doesn’t happen if young people are scared of getting things wrong. We want young people to feel confident here so they can take this confidence with them through their whole lives. We also want our students to feel that when they get something wrong they will get back up and have another go, and another go if that one doesn’t work.
of parents believe their children feel safe.
Try, try and try again until you are successful would be a good way to look at this approach. There is no such thing as a ‘loser’ – only someone who has not yet succeeded! This is what we mean by resilience and all successful people know you can’t get everything right all the time but you will definitely not get it right if you don’t keep trying.

Community Fakenham Academy Norfolk sits within its local community. We work well with local businesses to try to ensure that we are part of the local community. Whether this is via students having work experience placements, being involved in fieldwork, links with local shops and businesses via our Rewards systems or with our close connection to our partner Primary schools. We know that being part of our community is essential for all of the students and put simply it makes sense to ensure these links are well-formed and robust.

Super/Extra Curricular As well as the usual taught lessons provided in the curriculum we have an extensive variety of super learning opportunities such as sports and PE clubs, language clubs, Latin lessons, drama groups as well as many students taking extra music lessons.
Music at Fakenham is dynamic and popular. We have concerts and many other ensemble groups. Our extended learning involves university visits, archaeological digs and lectures and essay writing assisted by students from UEA and Cambridge Universities.
All of these Super or Extra curricular activities are designed to develop minds and build confidence and aspiration. We want all of our students to believe they can change the world and many actually go on and do this!
FAKENHAM SIXTH FORM Fakenham Sixth Form has successfully provided post-16 education in North Norfolk for many years. We offer courses to suit students of a wide range of abilities and interests in a dynamic and stimulating community with an emphasis on participation and academic achievement. Our students make exceptional progress due to quality teaching, excellent relationships between staff and students and the high level of individual support offered.

The tutors’ subject knowledge results in confident, self-assured learners who are provided with the skills to assess their own progress. We attract students from a wide range of schools throughout North Norfolk and further afield. Applicants will find it helpful to visit the Sixth Form during term time. This will enable them to
