CITY GUERILLA 2016 City Guerilla is a creative laboratory and a collective of young people with different educational backgrounds, interests, talents, abilities, experiences and attitudes. Resting on the principles of self-organized youth, creative association, volunteerism, peer and alternative education, it forms a specific creative space for the application of various ideas in the fields of art and social activism, its aim being to inspire young people to take active part in shaping their own urban environment and strengthening civil society. City Guerilla originates from Goethe-Guerilla, a project initiated by Goethe-Institut Belgrade in 2010 with an intention of connecting with young people. In 2014, its members decided to form City Guerilla with Goethe-Institut as a partner, continuing the tradition of it predecessor. During seven years of the project (both as Goethe and City Guerilla), more than 150 young people from Belgrade and the region have been given an opportunity to put their ideas into action by implementing projects they have devised themselves. Almost a hundred different projects and activities have so far been conducted by Guerilla, the most of them taking place in the Savamala urban neighborhood in Belgrade. The majority of events in 2016 was realized within the framework of the international project Actopolis hosted by the Goethe-Institut. Its leading idea is the passing on of experience and the joint development of artistic, urban and activist tools. The Belgrade edition of the Actopolis project, entitled “FORMALLY INFORMAL”, provided an opportunity of meeting with the self-organized cultural scene and its review. The curator of this edition of the project, Mirjana Boba Stojadinović, included artists, urbanists and activists, both from Serbia and abroad, in different forms of action such as performative research, public discussions, exhibitions, video works and production of publications. As a participant, City Guerilla presented its previous projects in a new light including the Schoolof Urban Practices, Savamala Walks, PULS among the others. In addition, City Guerilla decided to review its past work in the archival form and devise a new model of organization. In this light, a row of workshops with a common name “How to Organize an Organization” was realized in collaboration with Urban Incubator association. Their overall aim was broadening the knowledge of the principles of self- organization and teamwork. The focus of one of these workshops, entitled “Self-organization and Internet archive”, was on structuring the Internet archive and a website, which will present all the City Guerilla projects realized during the past 6 years. In conclusion, the City Guerilla’s main goals of 2016 have included recapitulation, analysis and creating the most functional model for the future development of this NGO. Furthermore, City Guerilla members will be working on creating and maintaining an online-archive, analyzing the projects realizedin the past few years. It will also continue with the further implementation and improvement of its old as well as creating new projects. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// City Guerilla – report of the programme and activities for JANUARY - DECEMBER 2016
City Guerilla Projects/Categories
S.O.U.P_School of Urban Practices School of Urban Practices works on improving the everyday environment of devastated urban neighbor- hoods (with a focus on Savamala) either through mediation, urban planning, architecture or any other forms of design that involves citizens from the very beginning of the project. Continually working on loca- tions of public interest and exchanging ideas with the local community initiatives and local entrepreneurs, School of Urban Practices develops innovative strategies and projects based on critical engagement in current problems of urban communities.
SW_Savamala Walks Savamala Walks is dedicated to making creative alternative walks and guides to Savamala, with an aim of propagating the rich history and merits of this urban neighborhood and pinpointing its current problems through various media (postcards, booklets, stories, exhibitions etc.). The main subproject of Savamala Walks is entitled Savamala Imaginarium and it deals with both real and imaginary Savamala. The main vehicle of this project are interactive postcards representing various Savamalas (Savamala from the past; Savamala from the future; monsters from Savamala etc). NM_New Media With these projects we aim to create new spaces and experiences concerning the city by combining sounds, visualization and emotionin audio-visual performances and interactive installations. New media projects aim to describe and illustrate our personal perception of a particular urban environment. CG DIALOGUES CG dialogues represent a series of lectures and discussions in the field of culture and arts aiming to educate, raise awareness about the importance of non-formal education, share experience and knowledge and develop critical thinking among young people. Furthermore, the goal is to broaden the network of individuals and groups that are actively interested in ity Guerilla projects, making the space for new collaborations and interactions, as well as recognition and visibility of Guerilla’s activities. Lectures and talks by experts from home and abroad are held two to four times a month in Kraljevica Marka 8.

.DA:SEIN / happening
Date: 06.05.2016 Location: : The Actopolis apartment (Despota Stefana 36)
Being, space and time, merged together into a term “da:sein” aimed to invoke the reassessment of the most prominent existentialistic questions that WE, as part of an inescapable collective of constantly shifting values, carry within. A group of individuals placed within a space, “deprived” of any previously mentioned values, as an anomaly within the existing system, become an active-reactive organism, without no expectations of a predefined outcome. The tangible, intangible product as a result of the six-hour happening, propelled the need of rethinking the process of appearance, formation and existence of a collective being and also the idea of how we affect and change the given habitat around us for later engagement with the public.
A large variety of food and refreshments was also provided for the participants. The end goal of this event was to evoke the participants inner consciousness of himself, something that Martin Heidegger, a German philosopher calls dasein, hence the name of the performance. Trough confinement within a given space, a person starts to interact with the people with whom he shares this experience as well as himself, creating an isolated microsystem within a sublime and barely comprehensible bigger one.
The performance/happening was conceived as the opening of the Actopolis apartment in Belgrade on May 6th 2016. The participants registered themselves via email and agreed to the terms and conditions that their movement and actions would be restricted only to the inner space of the apartment for a period of six hours, from 2pm till 8pm. After that the doors were open public and the viewers were encouraged to talk to the participants and share their gained experience. In total, 12 people participated in the happening, including a dog. During the time of the performance, the space was emptied of distracting elements and only a few objects remained including some chairs, tables and an old piano. Materials such as paper, chalk, pens, tape, an audio recording device, cameras, etc. were provided as means for self expression. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// City Guerilla – report of the programme and activities for JANUARY - DECEMBER 2016

.“Recording a daydream” / flanerie + photo walk
Date: 14-15.05.2016. Location: : Dorćol/Belgrade Category: Savamala Walks During a collective flânerie and photo-walk with a professional photographer and a guide, the participants had a chance to explore the main parts of the city, the local community, their life, memories, wishes and the environment and find some hidden qualities, while spontaneously connecting with the city and with each other. The participants had a chance to learn about the hidden history of the city, urban legends and stories, photo techniques modified to fit the street environment and different ways of documenting the spirit of the city. Starting as a seemingly pointless strolling around the city, the flânerie concept has transformed into an art of urban exploring. During the walk, the participant were taking photos of locations where various buildings used to stand, with explanations and map of locations where these buildings used to stand. The route was not fixed, but rather depended on every individual walker; and at the end of the walk, we all shared our experiences. The walks took place on 14 May, during the afternoon hours in Dorćol, and the exhibition of photos took place on 15 May 2016. ending in final celebration.

.Savamala 3D Monster / exhibition
Date: 10 - 15.05.2016. Location: : The Actopolis apartment (Despota Stefana 36) Category: Savamala Walks The Encyclopedia of Savamala’s Monsters is a City Guerilla project, whose aim is to present Savamala as a habitat of numerous imaginary and fictional creatures. These creatures, either smaller than a unicellular or skyscraper sized organisms, influence Savamala on daily basis, through their existence or their actions. Even though imaginary, this book treats them as real creatures, giving us a detailed illustration and description of their habitat, endangerment, habits etc. The main idea of the book and the 3D monster exhibition, that took place during Actopolis project, was to emphasize the historical importance and problems of Savalmala, through an imaginary perspective.

.Hit the Hermes / performance
Date: 10 - 15.05.2016. Location: : The Actopolis apartment (Despota Stefana 36)
Hit the Hermes is an experimental, multimedia-project, created as a reaction on devastating statistics of research on number of visitors at the National museum in Belgrade, that was conducted among citizens of Belgrade. The final result of the project was a birth of a collective picture on the canvas, which also was a screen for presenting the survey of the citizens of Belgrade. An unusual painting tool was used, a water-pistol fueled with paint, which the participants used to symbolically attack and destroy the Hermes, that appeared during the projection. The paint is a material proof of the temporary artistic intervention, a rest of a process and the projection on the canvas disappears. The project Hit the Hermes is an open system that can be upgraded and realized on a variety of different locations, so that every time a new authentic collective picture can be created.

Location: : The Actopolis apartment (Despota Stefana 36) Lecturer: Jovan Stamatović – Karić NK studio This was the second dialogue in which Jovan Stamatović - Karić shared the new project „Shard“ with the audience, challenging their expectations and encouraging them to participate in the performance. How is this theatre going to survive without their own space and how will the artistic family prevail and save their unique identity? NK studio was founded in September 2011 gathering people with the same creative targets and desire for artistic experimentation. Due to the lack of a regular stage space, NK Studio has ever since tried to maintain its own creative, artistic expression related to no particular circumstances. Besides putting on several plays each year, the Studio takes part in various projects, organizes tours, charity concerts, cooperate with different artists and lives, so to say, an extensive artistic life.

.How to organize an organization/ workshop
Date: 9-10 & 23-24 April / Location: KM8 Moderator: Marijana Cvetković & Marko Pejović Participants: Urban Incubator Assosiation memebrs + City Guerilla members The workshop offered a possibility for understanding various principles of self-organization and collaborative work in an organization, by implementing theoretical and practical working modules.
The second part of the workshop was realized through discussions, analysis of various examples from cultural field and through the exercises of practical skills needed for running an organization.
The first part of the workshop aimed at the creation of a positive working atmosphere and fostering teamwork, looking into the values on which foundation of joint actions should be laud upon as well as creation of the organization’s vision. We used activities taken from the usual corpus of informal education (experiential exercises, exchange, role-plays, guided fantasies), while a special focus was put on activities which help understanding positions and relations within a group/organization through physical exercises and direct interaction (activities such as barometer of attitudes, animated sculptures, creation of a group organism etc.).

.How to organize the common space/ workshop
March-April /Kraljevića Marka 8/ Belgrade Serbia Moderator: School of Urban practices (City Guerilla) Participants: Urban Incubator Assosiation memebrs + City Guerilla members One of several workshops with common name “Weare this organization?”, realized within the Actopolis-project as a joint effort of City Guerilla and Urban Incubator, was the workshop named “How to organize a common space / KM8?”. The KM8-space consists of 3 main parts: co-working space, gallery-residence space and a workshop for bikes so called Bike Kitchen. This multifunctional common space demands a more complex organization among members and improvement of working conditions. Workshop consisted of three different parts, realized in March- April, May and June 2016. Phase 1 – Mental Mapping The participants of the workshop were presented by blank maps of the KM8 space. Each participant was to make his personal map of the comfortable and uncomfortable points/objects/charechertiscs/ habits of and in the existing space. Along with the map, participant were to answer to a set of indirect question about their habits, organization and spatial needs and values. Phase 2 – Data Analasys By overlapping the maps, three groups of spatial characheristics and set of point to be addressed have emerged: map of activities, movement andspace as it is. Then the set of key words was extracted from the mapping and questionnaires (triggers, motives, social capital and unmet needs). The set of all four key words categories was placed again on the map with the answer/sketches on the given group. Result of this phase was a collective map of spatial elements and interventions and the priorities with a set of proposals how to deal with existing resources and a set of house regulations.
Phase 3 – Design&Making The third phase was meant to be realized after finishing the planned reconstruction works organized by DOB that unfortunatelly didn’t happen. After that the collaboration with DOB was brought to an end, and the space is no longer in use by two organisations.

.City Guerilla Archive / workshop
Date: 7-8 May / Location: : The Actopolis apartment (Despota Stefana 36) Moderator: Jelena Vojvodić Participants: City Guerilla members The aim of the workshop was a joint creation of archival concepts and the Internet presentation, conceptual connection with the Infographics regarding the implemented projects and, finally, a comprehensive presentation of the NGO “City Guerilla”. The outcome of the workshop included creating a structure for the Internet archive and Internet presentation of City Guerilla, which would include projects implemented by the platform of the Goethe-Institut in Belgrade, Urban Incubator and Goethe-Guerilla. Moreover, it served as basic training for the future participants concerning archiving digital materials.
The first part of structuring the site and interface was completed - linking user requirements with the mapped elements of self-organization and issues that had arisen during the course of implemented projects, as well as finalizing a proposal on how the site would look in the future. Moderator briefly presented the SEO techniques, site analytics and social networks on the Internet and talked about the socialization of the site (connection with social networks). Finally, the moderator gave recommendations for the preparation of digital materials for the website and a “backup” archive.
DAY 1 - 07.05.2016. The discussion about archives, Internet archiving, user interfaces and Internet environment took place. Participants talked about self-organization, its elements and possibilities of connectivity, and the division of roles among the participants of the workshop. The moderator got to know the participants and presented the structure of the workshop informing them about the possibilities and limitations of the current archive and interface of the City Guerilla - such as the use of blogging tools (Wordpress); the need for making the minimum, effective and modular interface that saves computer and financial resources. DAY 2 - 08.05.2016. Participants mapped the topics that have appeared in the previous work (tagging, clustering the topics and location of the outcome, products and projects, etc.). They did a brief overview of miscellaneous digital material - photos, audio, video, text, press and e-mails. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// City Guerilla – report of the programme and activities for JANUARY - DECEMBER 2016

.Open Library Open Library is a project developed within the activities of City Guerilla since 2011. The project has existed for four years and continues to be further developed in the framework of the activities of the City Guerilla. The idea of Open Library is a free exchange of books relying on the principle of replacing one book after another. Until now, Guerilla has implemented several workshops and projects related to the Open Library, starting with the first Open Library in Knez Mihailova Street, continuing with public actions and debates, and finally with a multidisciplinary workshop for Design and Making of mobile Open Libraries. The project has been recognized by the local community, cultural scene, informal and formal organizations which in the meantime have become collaborators in the distribution and implementation of a system of free exchange of books.

.My piece of the City_Savamala ”My piece of Savamala” is a participatory project that aims to get Savamala residents directly involved in the decision-making process in the public space. The initiative was created in response to the exclusion of citizens from the process of planning and it represents effort of the principles of participatory urbanism, their practical application and public demonstrations. The results of the workshops were used to shape a common attitude of the citizens and thus open the possibility of equal dialogue between all interested parties on how to use this piece of the City; This attitude was elaborated on two levels: as a project that defined the principles of architectural design and as a collectively proposal for a design that was the result of discussion among all authors-participants of the workshop. Final solution was presented to city authorities and investors as one of the possible solutions for this public space. This also involved the direct participation of citizens, with an invitation to continue with the dialogue until the very end, which would contribute to each of the parties of the conversation through education and significant experience of this unusual cooperation . Project My piece of Savamala got the award at the Salon of architecture in Belgrade in the category of Urbanism: to start an open dialogue.

Design Week - Overlapping (exhibition-installation)
November / Design Week / Novi Sad Participatory design does not aim to produce a solution that all users will be satisfied with: consensus and absolute overlap are utopia. What we are striving is consent: it is not necessary for everyone to be for it, but it is necessary that no one is against it. Overlaps in the project MPS picturesquely represent the harmonization process of positions outside the conventional tools involving citizens in the planning process (survey forms, public access to projects, etc.). Overlapping - architect completely relativize its role as the author of the design process, thereby opening up the possibility for transfer of responsibility in production of the common space - to the users. The installation shows 120 different ideas for a piece of Savamala, printed on a transparent background so that they can be viewed together, folded, as a whole, or as its specific segment. Pieces of Savamala belongs to its residents, visitors, fans, haters, passers-by, workers… Among the participants in the project, experts in architecture, landscape and design, technology and the environment were presented their pieces, also the mayor of Belgrade proposed his piece of Savamala. The segments (sub-groups) were created during the process of synthesis of common solutions, although they didn’t directly influence to the final product - their role is crucial for understanding the users and their needs, in order to achieve a tailor-made solution that is unique and specific, adequate and appropriate.
FB event: https://www.facebook.com/ events/1694359574214453/ The Sofia district between Dondukov Blvd., Maria Luiza Blvd., Slivnitza Blvd. and Vasil Levski Blvd. is a piece of the city with a complex urban identity that has not been framed yet. The workshop explored the area and guided participants through discovering its specificities. We used mental mapping as an instrument to identify all stakeholders and their relations with each other and with the space. The participants were invited to capture an individual image of the neighborhood and to share it between each other and with the world. The process was be curated online at the same time, enabling involvement from other actors through social networks. The result is a multi layered map mental map that presents overlapping of collected data from different steakholders. This map, as a commonly curated symbolic profile of an area, will serve its residents and local businesses as a mutual tool for the dialogue between all stakeholders and representation of the neighborhood without losing the diversity.

.Spanish House - end of programme January-December/ Spansih House/ Belgrade/ . Serbia After 2015 during which we organised 18 local community-oriented events that served as a tool for program and spatial conceptualisation of the vast space of the Spanish house, at the beginning of 2016, the municipality informed us that continuation of collaboration is no longer possible due to appearance of an investor that intended to start building a hotel inside the walls of the house. As we have gathered a lot of resources during 2015 that we intended to use in the house in 2016, we had to move them out.
This circumstance has forced us to think about our resources and how we deal with them. The rest of them we will used to start an Open call for the citizens to reinvent their neighborhood working closely with us. During the entire year of 2016 the space of the Spanish house remained empty with no signs of any kind of activity neither investor nor the municipality. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Moving out of the Spanish House ( January) Together with neighbours and collaborators, we gradually moved all the materials we had gained during the years (2013-2015) such as: plants, urban furniture, wooden materials and other things. This initiated further collaborations as we have invited all the supporters, neighbours of Savamala and collaborators (Nova iskra, Lice Ulice, Urban Incubator) to take pieces that could make change or be put in use in their spaces. .SYNAPSE interactive installation and workshop/ Introduction to VVVV Date: 22.9. - 24.9.2016; 21.11.2016. - 24.11.2016 Location: Zagreb, gallery Močvara; SKC Rijeka
Synapse is an interactive audio-visual installation which aims to represent the problem of pain perception as an information through direct interaction with the viewer. The installation consists of two computers, one which is directly connected to the speakers and serves as the means of generating audio content of the installation. The other computer is connected to Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect sensor and a projector displaying generated visual content. The sensor provides coordinates which are in constant communication, exchanging information the computer receives from the sensor. Produced audio-visual content can be divided into three stages. The first one is the painless sleep mode in which a small green ball defined by a network of lines, pulses in synchronization with accompanying sound which resembles a calm heartbeat. When an observer comes closer to the projection and when the sensor detects him, this marks the beginning of the second phase, which aims to awaken a sense of tension in the observer. The ball, depending on the proximity of the observer, grows, and changes color from green to yellow according to the gradient basis. The audio content that is in sync with the visuals is also changed, adding new sounds that accompany the agitated state. The third stage is a condition of pain in which the ball’s form completely loses its structure, organic pulsations of volume become geometric and sharp, its lines get a bright red color, and the size fills in the entire defined digital space. The sound gets amplified and intense. The entire synesthesia is transmitted to the observer as a state of pain and discomfort which he can easily get out from, if he steps back
from the projectionhe is confronting, but another thing happens if he stays in front of it with the idea of overcoming it. The pain gradually starts to disappear and a state of relaxation and “zen” takes place. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////// The Synapse, an interactive installation won the “Zvucni Zid” competition organized by the student cultural center of Rijeka (Croatia). The generated sound of the work, attracted many visitors who were just passing by the gallery situated on the busy streets of down town Rijeka. During the stay in Rijeka, a short presentation of City Guerillas work was made at the Academy of Arts in Rijeka moderated by Dominik Grdić and Lucija Polonio. Plans for future collaborations between SKC Rijeka and City Guerilla have been made and are going to be realized in the next two years.

DIALOGUE 3 MARJETICA POTRČ (HFBK Hamburg) Lecturers: Marjetica Potrč Date: 09.06.2016. Location: KM8 Visitors: round 20 people The Soweto Project developed over the course of two months in early 2014 at two locations in Soweto – Orlando East and Noordgesig. In Orlando East, the local residents and we turned a former public space that had been used as a dumping ground into a community-organized public space called Ubuntu Park. We built a stage, braai-stands (BBQ-stands), and tables and benches together. The project engaged community using relational objects and performative actions, such as the construction of a performance platform and the organization of a Soweto Street Festival. In all these endeavors, we followed the principles of participatory design: Listening to and talking with the local residents before making any definite plan. Involving the community in the decision-making and design processes. Involving the community in the construction process.Transferring responsibility for the developed project to the community in order to leave behind a sustainable work that benefits population in the long term.

DIALOGUE 5 SHARE FOUNDATION
How does technology affect the freedom of creation? Lecturers: Petar Kalezić & Bojan Perkov Date: 16.07.2016. Location: : Caffee/bookstore Magistrala Visitors: round 25 people
In 1993, at the “AP Branko Krsmanovic” in performance of Woody Allen entitled “Death” Šaponja and Cavic acted together and got to know each other for the first time. The first baptized the other, and the other was his best man at his wedding. There are several interpretations of what Marka Žvaka really means. The first Dušan told the story, while the other one told completely a different story. Best guess was that the package of Orbit chewing gum that were sold on the streets was always worth more or less one German mark and that quality gum (story) deserved its own brand. Marka Žvaka was broadcasted 2006-2011 on TV B92, when they left B92 and since then created their own production entitled “Ciklotron”.
Petar Kalezić and Bojan Perkov from Share Foundation, in conversation with the audience will discovered how the use of information technology is becoming more and more part of our everyday lives, and how it is necessary to consider the various problems and challenges that arise at the intersection of society and technology. Also, the importance of human rights and freedoms in the digital environment was discussed, notably on freedom of expression, the right to privacy and protection of personal data, open access to knowledge and transparency of government.

What happened to Danilo Antić (https://www.facebook.com/danilo.antic.7/videos/vb.100000571883424/781941908501531/? type=2&theater)? Along the docks of the Sava, behind the Belgrade railway station, Dane – as they called him in the neighbourhood – has disappeared. No trace of his raspy heavy smoker laugh and of his street kiosk, always full of fresh beers and shing worms. He's gone for good, they say, following the example of the shermen who left Savamala after the arrival of the rst bulldozers.
Timeframe: 18.-20.03.2016.
This slope of apartments, local markets, and small gardens, that climb from the river to the old town, has been declared a huge construction site. The government and the municipality gave the green light to a project for over 3 billion Euros, that will completely change the prole of this area, for a long time at the margins of Belgrade's development.
Presentation of the development of School of Urban Practices collective from a project initiated during MA studies of its participants at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade, Serbia, to its active establishment within the City Guerilla Association. The talk presented the methodology and the projects from 2013-2016. Together with the participants we questioned the role of architects and architecture in society and the city as a complex being.
Participants: Mirjana Utvić (City Guerilla), Ana Dana Beroš (Actopolis curator - Zagreb), DanijelaBefore Dugandžić (Actopolis curator - Sarajevo, Yelta Belgrade on water Kom (Actopolis participant -Turkey) Peeling facades and precarious sidewalks will be replaced by a 160-metre skyscraper, a shopping mall, and a number of blazing residential buildings with large windows. A new skyline, which is not going to include the sale of shing worms on the roadside.
Those who hang out on the riverfront argue that Dane has most probably moved across the Sava to Novi Beograd, where you can still throw a shing line in the water in peace. Yet, nding him will not be easy. The pharaonic plan known as "Beograd na vodi" (Belgrade on water) is in fact shaking the daily life of the neighbourhood. To track this atypical Belgrade resident, formerly living in Germany, it will be necessary to review the history of Savamala and meet some of its protagonists.
Before the arrival of bulldozers and Arab investors, announced by the current Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vučić, this triangle nestled between Kalemegdan, the Republic Square, and the arrival point of the railway tracks, was an area forgotten by the authorities, but rediscovered by the capital's youth. Abandoned buildings – sometimes even without roof, like the "Spanish House" – attracted dozens of students, artists, and activists, eager to reactivate the dynamism of the area and its untapped potential.
During a two-day-visit in Athens, together with participants from Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, City Guerilla presented its activities within the Actopolis-project and exchanged experiences through a series of performing interviews and the presentation of the planned activities within the regional Actopolis and its past works and projects. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// City Guerilla – report of the programme and activities for JANUARY - DECEMBER 2016

GG @K Exit Festival Date: : 7-10 July Location: Novi Sad, Exit Festival Like last year, the City Guerilla had an opportunity to present its work as one of 24 selected organizations within the framework of the State of Exit zone . During the four days of the festival, the City Guerilla promoted promoted its image, the guerillas as well and projects they had previously done. For example, one of the projects presented was Savamala walks, where visitors had an opportunity to write a postcard created within this module. School of Urban Practices was also represented by its pocket library, and people were encouraged to exchange books. Finally, GG dialogues were also presented.
‘Compare to’ is both a book and an interactive game. The book, which served as an inspiration for the game, consists of various comparisons, i.e. ways we explain the world to ourselves and ourselves to the world. “Ether” is an interactive installation with the purpose of connecting Goethe Institute library users trough a platform that lets them communicate in a new, atypical way. The simple setup consists of a computer connected to the internet, a keyboard, mouse and a large LCD screen, no smaller than 50’’positioned vertically. When the Return (Enter) button is pressed the word written in the text box starts floating away from its original position into a box defined by the size of the screen. A special algorithm prevents them from floating into the same position. The words located on the screen interact with each other by a physics engine letting theuser manipulate their position, trajectory of movement, force and other variables making it possible for them to form sentences.
