Fall Programs Restart, September 2023 - May 2024

Adult Ice Skating at Fogerty Arena Wednesdays, 9:30am, free

Bring your favorite pair of ice skates beginning September 6 to Fogerty Arena located just west of the MAYC at 9250 Lincoln Street, Blaine. Staff will have overhead music playing while you skate. This is one of the best deals in town! Check it out. No registration needed.

North Metro Woodcarver Association Meetings

2nd Sunday each month, 2-4pm

Open to all, this monthly meeting is held generally the second Sunday of each month beginning September 10. Find out what events are being planned for the year and how to get started as a woodcarver. Call Wes at 763-757-5377 for more details.

Soil and Sunshine Garden Club

2nd Monday each month, 6:30pm

Meetings are held the second Monday evening of each month beginning at 6:30PM. Informational speaker/presenters can be expected throughout the year. Learn valuable tips from Master Gardeners on how to make your garden even better. Join in the annual plant sale in May. Tour local gardens in the summer. Wii Nintendo Bowling League

Tuesdays (Fall, Winter, and Spring), 9-11am, $3

This fun, interactive game is played using a remote. Get in your arm exercises while competing for fun and small payback prizes in this league held three times per year. Fall league begins Tuesday, September 26. There will be eight weeks of play scheduled for each season of play. Two time slots are available for players; 9AM and 10AM. A makeup date is scheduled prior to the final fun tournament for each season. Call the MAYC for details and to register. All levels welcome. Experienced bowlers are happy to assist new bowlers. Give it a try!

Bring a Youth Day

Thursday, August 17, 10:45am-2:15pm, $5/meal, $2/ice cream sundae

Prizes for both youth and adults for game winners will be given out at lunch time. Test your skills and join in! Games start at 10:45AM, lunch is at noon, prize bingo at 1PM, and ice cream sundaes at 2PM. Register in advance and provide the ages of the youth attending. Volunteers are needed to run the game events, call staff at 763-786-9375 to sign up to help. Youth and adult prize donations are welcome and should be brought to MAYC by August 10. The adult menu for the day is cheeseburger on a bun, coleslaw, baked beans, watermelon, and cookie. The youth menu is hot dog on bun, french fries, watermelon, and cookie.

Cooking with Glo

Friday, September 8, 1:30pm, $21

Enjoy cooking? Interested in learning how to prepare new and tasty recipes? Look no further. Glo has traveled much of the world and would like to share her culinary experiences with you. She will purchase and bring all the ingredients to prepare a dish for registered participants to eat on-site or take some home to enjoy later. Classes will be scheduled every few months so participants will help decide what the next entrée will be. Class will take place in the MAYC commercial kitchen. A few tall chairs may be provided for those who cannot stand through the entire session. Selected entrée for this class: Italian Tuscan Soup. Register in advance to attend. Class size: 6-8 participants.

Movie of the Month

The Fabelmans, Thursday, August 10, 1pm, Free Young Sammy Fabelman falls in love with movies after his parents take him to see “The Greatest Show on Earth.” He aspires to become a filmmaker as he reaches adolescence, but soon discovers a shattering family secret and explores how the power of films can help him see the truth. This film received a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture-Drama. A behind the scenes story about Stephen Spielberg. Rated PG-13, watch this film on the big screen TV with overhead speakers. Popcorn available at intermission. Register in advance.

Open Jam Session

3rd Tuesday of month beginning August 15, 1-3pm, free

This informal jam session is open to all levels of musicians. Bring your instrument(s) and favorite sheet music to the jam session. The goal is fun, camaraderie, friendship, and practice of skills. Internet Basics

Wednesday, September 6, 10:30am-12pm, free

North Metro TV’s internet answer man Eric Houston is here to get you up to speed and tell you all about the world wide web. You will learn important terms and definitions, like what is the cloud, what is AI, and how to use cookies. He will also introduce you to web browsers and help start you on your path to feeling comfortable online. Make sure to bring your own questions about the internet and settle in for a class specially designed for internet newbies. Advanced registration required.

Nutrition Class: Have Heartburn?

Friday, September 8, 10am, $6

GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) is one of the most common digestive disorders in the U.S. and its prevalence is steadily increasing. In this class Health and Wellness Consultant, Heather Carpentier will discuss symptoms, common underlying causes, potential risks if left untreated, and possible holistic options for treating GERD. Advanced registration required.

Food Distribution Program

2nd Sunday of each month, 10506 Hanson Blvd NW, Coon Rapids MN

Free drive-thru food distribution takes place each month from 12-2PM at the corner of Hanson and Coon Rapids Blvd. No requirements or data collected. Everyone is welcome, including walk-ins. Food supplied by Every Meal, Bergin Fruit & Nut Company, and local restaurants.

Minnesota Legal Aid

In-person assistance on the 1st Tuesday of the month, 11am-1pm

Need help with a legal issue? Mid Minnesota Legal Aid will help get you started to find answers to your legal questions. Specify your topic of interest at time of registration, so that Legal Aid staff can prepare in advance of your appointment. Time slots are 30 minutes in length. You must be an Anoka County resident to qualify for this program.

Tech Lab Assistance

Specified Wednesdays, 9:30am-1:15pm, free September 13, October 11, November 15, and December 13

Need assistance with your electronic device? Help is just a phone call away. Appointments are available 1:1 with Amy, a knowledgeable volunteer who will help you navigate your tablet, laptop, or cell phone. Indicate your device at time of registration, which is required in advance, and bring your list of questions to the appointment.

State Parks of Minnesota

September 8, 10:30am, $3 Minnesotans love their state parks. Go on a visual vacation with a photographer. Doug has visited all 67 state parks and has photographs, stories, history, and personal adventures to share. This program has two main themes; the history of the oldest state parks, and the incredible recreational opportunities just waiting to be explored. Register in advance to attend.
