SWIM LESSONS
CHOOSING THE APPROPRIATE LEVEL
Children should be registered for a level based on their swim ability. Please read the descriptions of skills and prerequisites needed before the start of each class in order to determine which level is best for your child. Makeup sessions are not available. Come visit our Swim Assessments on March 2 & 9, from 11am1pm to help determine which level is right for your child. You can register at (https://shorturl.at/tINPR). Please bring a swimsuit and towel to the assessments.
Parent Tot (6 mo–3 YRS)
Welcome all parents/guardians and tots who would like to dip their toes in and explore swimming! In this beginner class, we introduce your child to the water and all the fun things you can do. Parent and child will both be in the water with the instructor guiding you through floating, blowing bubbles, going underwater, assisted jumps into the water, and focusing on water safety. Please remember to take your child to the restroom before lessons. Accidents in the pool are a major disruption and require complete closure of the pool. Children who are not potty trained are required to wear a swim diaper.
Preschool Level 1 & 2 (3-5 YRS)
We welcome all swimmers (3-5 years old) who are new to swimming, getting in the water for the first time, or are scared or nervous of swimming. This class focuses on water safety and getting your child comfortable in the water. Swimmers will learn how to submerge their face under the water, blow bubbles, bobbing, supported floating skills, water entries and exit, and arm and leg movement with support. All students must be able to hold onto the pool wall with two hands and be a minimum age of 3 yrs. This class takes place in 3 to 5 feet deep water. Prerequisites: Minimum age of three (3); Must be able to hold onto the pool wall with two hands without support.
Level 1 (6+ YRS)
We welcome all swimmers (6+ years old) who are newer to swimming and working on getting comfortable in the water. This class focuses on water safety and getting your child comfortable in the water where they can’t touch the bottom of the pool. Swimmers will learn how to swim underwater, blow bubbles, bobbing, supported floating skills, water entries and exits, and learn beginning freestyle (front crawl) and backstroke skills. All students must be able to hold onto the pool wall with two hands and be a minimum age of 6 yrs. This class takes place in 3 to 5 feet deep water. Prerequisites: Minimum age of six (6); Must be able to hold onto the pool wall with two hands without support.
Level 2
Swimmers in Level 2 jump into the pool or slide in from the side at the start of each class to get them warmed up and comfortable entering the water with minimal support. We focus on freestyle (front crawl) and backstroke as well as streamline glides into kicking and swimming. Swimmers will also dive underwater for rings, open their eyes underwater, and continue to build up their treading skills. Students in this level should be completely independent in the water, need minimal support when completing skills, and can swim 15 yrds across the pool without support or stopping. This class takes place in 5 to 9 feet deep water. Prerequisites: Passed Level 1; Must be comfortable in the water and putting their face underwater; Must be able to swim half length of the pool without stopping (15 yrds); Must be able to enter/exit the pool and learn skills without physical support.
Level 3
Advanced swimmers join us in Level 3 where we focus on increased endurance and strength in swimming. All swimmers should feel comfortable entering and exiting the pool independently by stepping or jumping in from the side without support. We focus on the smooth transition from gliding to swimming for freestyle (front crawl) and backstroke as well as learning dolphin, breastroke, and side stroke kicks. Students build up their treading skills, learn sitting dives into the water, and swim lengths across the pool. This class runs in the 5 to 9 feet depth in the pool. Prerequisites: Passed Level 2; Must be able to swim freestyle (front crawl) and backstroke across the entire length of the pool without stopping (25 yrds); Must be able to enter the pool and learn skills without physical support.
On the first day of each class for Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3, students will be tested to make sure they are registered for the right class. Please use our prerequisites to help determine what swim lesson level is right for your child. In the event that your child is registered for the wrong level, Campbell Aquatics will do our best to make accommodations to move them to the right level if there is space in the correct class and there is no waitlist. If there is a waitlist for the correct class, you will be refunded for the registered class. If you have any questions about which level your child belongs in before you register, please call Liz Simonovich at 408.866.2160
Cancellations or transfers must be requested in writing five (5) business days prior to the start date of the class. Please visit www.campbellca.gov or call (408) 866-2104.
