Five Dock Planting Scheme June 2020 Five Dock Park illustrates Federation/late Victorian recreational attitudes and planting Size patterns. 122 trees will be planted in Five Dock Park in support of City of Canada Bay’s Urban Canopy Strategy and The Department of Planning and Environment’s 5 million Tree and Everyone Can Play Grant. Three existing planting themes will be reinforced with the proposed new plantings Species from the Ironbark-Turpentine ecologically endangered vegetation community will be planted in the identified- mapped zone Formal plantings to compliment the Federation/late Victorian planting patterns. Indigenous Species for biodiversity Design Intent To reinforce the existing boundary plantings To continue formal dual plantings along the radical paths To plant only species from the Turpentine Ironbark Community in the ecological protected area. To use predominately species that are drought tolerant To plant species that are tolerant of the soil pathogen Fusarium Wilt when planting in areas of previous Canary Island Palm death. To plant deciduous species along entrance paths devoid of trees to allow for autumn colour and winter sun. To plant indigenous species in all other areas not outlined above to provide for biodiversity and habitat.
Revisions (response to feedback) 1. Species - 60% of Ginkgos replaced with Fraxinus Raywood- drought tolerance 2. Replace clump of large trees near cricket practice nets and proposed accessible path with small/medium species - Elaeocarpus reticulatus 3. Position a large tree(Lophostemon confertus) to provide visual separation between the proposed playground and Memorial.
